Goosebump Award this year - who?
TerpCorpsNut replied to amadorj's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
But there are so many! From the 3 shows I enjoy the most this year... HNC - the long chord at the end of Boy Like That... the goosebumps just keep coming SCV - company front, duh. Crown - end of Puck, OR, either one of the two times they play Promise of Living (I freakin' love that piece) - I got to watch them rehearse in Allentown, and sitting right in front of the brass while they worked on their pre-show/opener gave me happy tears -
Pick ONE THING you love this year

As others have said, the Allentown crowd was pretty enthusiastic for SCV... I'm sorry the VOD didn't bring that across. At least in my section (middle chunk of the upper deck, literally right under the judges box), they were the only group besides the Cadets that got a standing o during the show, not just after they were done. All the people around me had nothing but wonderful things to say once it was over, and I myself got a tear to my eye. I didn't expect it to stand up to Cadets 87 (my favorite show of all time), but I LOVED SCV's version.

If you can't get to an actual show or rehearsal with them, show them as many videos as you can. I know my parents were both forced to watch more drum corps than they probably wanted to, but they were involved with my high school band so they understood why I thought it was cool, and they even thought some of it was cool themselves. That being said. My mom DID NOT want me to march (I didn't end up marching, but that's not the point). I just kept telling her why I wanted to and why I loved it so much, and before I knew it it was December and I headed off to a Cadets camp (the scariest/most AMAZING thing I've ever done), and she told me that if I didn't make it, I had to pay the camp fee, but if I did make it, she would pay it since I'd be paying tour fees. So my advice is to just expose your parents to as much of it as possible. I didn't end up making it when I auditioned (well, to be honest, I just stopped trying and then made excuses for myself not to try again this year), and I really regret that, so keep working on them, they may just come around, especially if you tell them just how much it would mean to you.

Yep, that one would be my second choice. This was the second show I was pretty obsessed with, or maybe third after Spin Cycle (I went through a teenage girl Cavies phase until my junior year of HS ).
-
As fairly cliche as it is, the first show I ever saw (the summer before my freshman year of HS, during marching band, no less) was Cadets 2000. I was hooked/obsessed and so amazed that I found a way to illegally download it (oops) so I could show my parents. That show's pretty user friendly in general.

I really hope you're right, and I'm sure I can speak for all of us in saying I appreciate your efforts to keep the rain to yourself tonight!

Cadets, Cavies, and Crown

Ok so only like 120. And sorry, no sprinkles... chocolate chip! And now that I've gotten everyone off topic... yay Crown! -

I'm baking about 2349820 for my friend in Cadets tomorrow... that's more than enough to share with the winners of this -
WOW holy crap! That is not what I was expecting at all... now my boyfriend can make fun of me again (we have a good Crown/Cadets rivalry going on). =( But seriously, way to go Crown! Scores like this are exciting if only because of their unpredictability.

Show weather, 07/30 - 08/01
TerpCorpsNut replied to CrunchyTenor's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
*crosses fingers* PLEEEEASE DON'T RAIN TOMORROW NIGHT. Or at least, not enough to cancel the show... I haven't been to a show since Finals 07, and I'd be real sad if I didn't get to see everyone tomorrow night. -
I'm not sure if anyone has posted this yet, but I didn't see a thread so I figured I'd put it up here. The Salem VOD's are up! They include all of Crown's pre-show, so I have to assume they do that for all the corps. Enjoy!

Cadets, Cavies, and Crown
TerpCorpsNut replied to chaddyt's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I think I have to agree with several people on here... my heart says HNC but my brain says Cavies. That being said, I do like Crown quite a bit, and wouldn't be disappointed in the least to see them come out on top. -
For all you drum corps people
TerpCorpsNut replied to gottalovit's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Agreed. I'll listen to almost anything (except country... I can't deal with country), but the CDs that never, ever leave the CD holder in my car are by the Chili Peppers, Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, Wilco, Spoon, Chicago, Citizen Cope, Pavement, Pearl Jam, Built to Spill, The Arcade Fire, Frank Sinatra, DMB, The Unicorns, Pearl Jam, and Modest Mouse. I also listen to pretty much every classical composer previously listed. Man I feel like an indie kid. -
Booing in drum corps

I'm pretty sure that's one of the best things I've read on here, ever. -
Auditioning for Div. 1
TerpCorpsNut replied to niteblaze102's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I'm Amber and I'll be auditioning for The Cadets on baritone. If I don't make it there, I'm not sure where I'll go (maybe Surf or Colts), but I WILL be marching somewhere in some division next summer. -
Seconded!!!
-
I think I saw it's September 5th at 10 pm
-
Hehehe thanks... such is the life of a music ed major who does marching band... all I can say is thank heavens for AP credits or I'd be taking more
-
Completely agree here. As for me... I'll be preparing for auditions and trying not to die from 20 credits of class :P
-
Because maybe the judges didn't think the narration was that bad? Not everyone, or even most people, think the narration was poorly delivered and of poor quality. I happened to like a lot of it and I'm not generally a big fan of narration... apparently the judges did too (cue comment about how they don't know how to judge it because there aren't really any guidelines for that etc etc).

Bump!
