  1. my bad I missed a corps for the 10 and 12 groups... toss glassmen in both categories
  2. The Blue Coats will not win DCI. They might... MIGHT... break into the top three, MAYBE.... but they won't win. Here's my breakdown. Corps that will be in the top three Phantom Cadets Cavaliers Corps that will be in the top five Phantom Cadets Cavaliers Blue Devils Blue Coats '' top seven Phantom Cadets Blue Devils Cavaliers Blue Coats Crown SCV " top ten Phantom Cadets Blue Devils Cavaliers Blue Coats Crown SCV Madison Boston " top twelve Phantom Cadets Blue Devils Cavaliers Blue Coats Crown SCV Madison Boston Crossmen Spirit Note that order doesn't matter, I've only grouped the corps into likely brackets. My only hesitation is whether or not Blue Devils or Cavies will be in the top three. I went with Cavs just because I don't see them dropping down past the three spot after a championship. They're not the Cadets who have done that four times before. Speaking of Cadets trends, they've never gotten 4th or lower without winning it the following year... except 92 where they got 2nd following theie below-4th placing in 91
  3. Cavs sure weren't clean as can be last year. Saw finals from the top of camp randall and there were a lot of not so straight lines that night.
  4. Crown ahead of the Cadets and the Cavaliers? Crown ahead of one of those two corps is a stretch nevermind ahead of both of them. Crown will not beat both the Cadets and the Cavaliers this weekend.
  5. Did you march Cadets? I like your blog and your approach to intellectualizing drum corps. Perhaps we could talk further.
  6. Maybe corps should do runthrus in winter parkas and work-boots. Once they got to the show in a nice polyester uni they'd feel like they were walking on air... that's not a phantom joke kinda like warming up on deck with two bats
  7. So much talk of new uniforms. I'd like to address a slightly different issue. Are the current uniforms we're wearing too constricting? Wouldn't hornlines and drumlines move better in something a little more free? The only problem is how to look good at the same time.
  8. Whoa there buddy! I really don't think that's the reason for the uni-turnover. I can only speak as a Cadet but I'm pretty sure every corps treats their uniforms with the utmost pride and respect. I know we had a lot of rules about how to physically handle our uniforms from everything to how to put it on to how to carry it from the truck to the bus. I bet its pretty much the same everywhere. I just think there's a contemporary trend of altering uniforms slightly to echo show content. I mean... I sure didn't wear the standard Cadet uniform, but I still treated it like the golden fleece.
  9. You know, its funny. Hopkins want to make the show in such a way that the narrative parts are necessary and the show wouldn't make sense without them. But doesn't it defeat the purpose if he specifically designs the show so it begs the use of narration. It seems like he's designing in an excuse for the use of narration into his show. I think Hopkins thought... how can I design this show to make narration work? rather than Now that I have this show, what elements would add to it... perhaps naration? You shouldn't design shows around narration. You should use narration, maybe, if the show needs it. I can't think of a show to date that wouldn't improve without the removal of narration, including and especially my own.
  10. Which is more important? What aspect of drum corps do you value more? 1) That the members have a wonderful and fulfilling drum corps experience that they can use as a foundation for life. That the members learn valuable lessons while bonding with their brothers over the course of a summer. That the members become stronger individuals as they serve the corps. - the member experience. 2) That the corps devotes all its energies to producing the highest quality show possible. That the memebers of the corps are merely elements to a grander scheme and are meant ony to serve an artistic puropse of the show. - the quality of product
  11. Cadillac is not the corps song. I'd say its more of a hornline tradition. Like Rocky Point.
  12. hey man I tried playin' loud and got yelled at for it
  13. I noticed this on tour last summer well before "300." I mean I'd expect this sorta thing to be pretty common knowledge. It's one of the most famous buildings ever.
  14. Gee, thanks for the advice. I'll remember that when I don't get caught not working.
  15. Do you think the person responsible for the Parthenon image even knew it wasn't a Spartan temple? I doubt it. I guess I'm being picky but I think the mistake makes the corps look foolish rather than intimidating.
  16. I'm gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you on this one. Just because you haven't taught drum corps doesn't mean you shouldn't comment on design. I mean if you've marched, taught or just like to be a fan you can still have design opinions. We can't just agree with designers because they're the ones who design so we can't say anything about their stuff. No way. If people shouldn't comment on design if they haven't themselves designed DCP would be a pretty stale forum now wouldn't it. Example: I'm gonna go ahead and built your house out of paper mache! Uh well maybe that's not such a- WAIT you can't say anything! You've never built a house before! oh you're right, sorry
  17. I couldn't help but notice that he Spartans have the image of what looks to me like the Parthenon painted on one of their trucks. Now, the Parthenon was the most sacred temple for the Athenians, a rival city-state of Sparta. Am I incorrect in identifying this image as the Parthenon. If not, why paint the temple of your figurative enemies on your truck? Was this intentional for some reason?
  18. Its funny you should mention that because I noticed a similar error on the Spartans equipment truck. They have the image of the Parthenon painted on their truck. The Parthenon was an Athenian temple. If we remember from history class, Athens was a rival city state of Sparta. Now maybe this is just me but I wouldn't want to decorate my truck with the image of my mortal enemies' most sacred temple.
  19. OH! and a hell of a nod goes out to BD '03, talk about a perfect wall of sound... that hornline knew how to go to one without letting up considering that the phrases in that show are nevwer ending
  20. This is a tough one... I thought long and hard between Star 91 and Cadets 98 Cadets 98: best 1st place show elegant, clean, lots of velocity, artistic minimalist style, classic abstract content i.e. the opposite of the current cadets trend... my only complaint is the hornline doesn't come close to pulling off half of what star 91 could do.
  21. Yes. But DCI still imposes many of the limitations I propose to drop. Drum corps don't necessarily have to belong to DCI or any group in order to exist. I'd love to see a drum corps operating completely independently. So you don't agree with my plan to make drum corps more notable. Fair enough. What do you think should happen ?
  22. Alright, work is really slow today so bare with me. Which corps has the coolest logo????? this can be any corps from any era!!!!!! Personally I like the present Crossmen logo, pretty cool lookin' HM: the star logo from the 91 video with the state of indiana outline and the rainbow trail thing... totally retro visual aids encouraged
