  1. I vote that they use some of the money to work with Fathom to put on a BLL in Indy.
  2. I'm not on facebook. Tried the link, but NG. Thanks anyway.
  3. Never knew that about palmetto bugs being flying roaches. Not a fan of heat, humidity or bugs. So, when my parents decided to stop going to Boca,we sold the condo.
  4. Its apparent from your post on the "Boston Crusaders 2021" thread that BAC is, as you post ,not looking at 2021 as a "placeholder" year. BAC has determined that it is in their best interest to take on the financial burden of putting together an elaborate show, for a very limited number of exhibition performances. Hard to see how they can recoup the costs, unless they have enough funds "in the bank" to cover the season. Will it work out, remains to be seen.
  5. My parents had a place in Boca. Never saw sooooo many bugs in my life. Never knew a Palmetto bug was actually a roach. As bad as they were, the flying cockroaches were worse.
  6. A follow up post talks about "high tech props". To me,its kind of hard to justify spending a lot of money on props for few exhibition shows.
  7. I agree 100% about paying to see reruns. I just don't know, given move in dates, what kind of show could have been ready by 7/15. That's why my opinion is they should go with a BLL from Indy.
  8. I'm not suggesting DCI should have considered a live event for 7/15. Its also too late to change the preview show. What I am saying is that, from a drum corps fan's perspective,I think a live broadcast of one of the Indy shows will draw a much bigger audience then the 7/15 "summer reruns". The way things stand, most fans won't get to see live drum corps in person this year. Those that do,unless they get to Indy, will see a limited number of corps. Last year people were saying how they found things to do,other then drum corps. Be interesting to see, after another year, how many fans, especially casual ones, come back. At least a BLL can generate some interest, going into next year.
  9. DCI is the parent organization. So,to me ,any research they authorized is still "theirs". I understand issues with Flo. But,DCI has had 2 live events broadcast by Fathom, including preliminaries for years. I would think they could do at least 1 in 2021. Marketing 101:Get the biggest audience for your product. In 2021 drum corps that's Fathom, not Flo.
  10. Based on what DCI came up with for the preview,I'm not so sure. I really don't know how much objective research DCI does on anything. From what I've read here, and on other boards, when DCI followed the "rerun" format for their start of the season broadcasts, they weren't well attended. That changed when they started showing a live "Season Opener". As I posted,I find it hard to believe that DCI feels they will get a bigger theater audience showing reruns then live 2021 performances, especially since Indy will be the only place where all the corps will perform. Given the limited movie releases this year,DCI may also have the opportunity to show either Friday or Saturday night. DCI is touting Saturday night as a kick off for 2022. Seems that a live theater broadcast would be a great way to get fans psyched for that.
  11. So apparently DCI and Fathom believe that showing a repeat of 5 shows will draw a bigger audience then live 2021 performances. Doesn't make much sense to me.
  12. A number of people have posted that fans are hungry to see drum corps, any drum corps. If that's true, then, in my opinion, DCI and Fathom may be missing an opportunity by not broadcasting some form of BLL. Given the extremely limited touring schedule, even if you can get to a show,it will only be a few corps. The only way people, who aren't going to Indy, can see all/most of the corps would be a theater show. Flo,when it is working, isn't the same. Scoring or not, given the corps' approach to their shows this season, they can draw an audience.
  13. Guess DCI doesn't want to front the cost of a BLL Event on Fathom. In my opinion, given the extremely limited tour,a BLL should be sell very well.
  14. Just to stay O.T. a bit longer. This was one of the books we read in a literature class I took in college. The professor was really into the book and movie. A couple of interesting things about the book(s) movie: 1.Although set in a futuristic society,it was written about U.S. soldiers stationed in Britain in WW 2. 2.The movie was based on the U.S. version of the book . Not the original British version. The U.S. version did not include the last chapter. That chapter had Alex "maturing" and recognizing the faults with his earlier life. Never found out the reason for a U.S. and British version.
  15. Not exactly. I'm in the process of buying a new car. The issue of how the auto stop function affects an engine's components was a big concern of mine. What I found out was that different vehicles use different technologies. They go from a basic "beefed up" starter. solenoid, to something called a Denso Starter. From everything I read, and found out from the mechanics at dealerships, auto stop/start doesn't do all that much for fuel economy. They all said , no matter how much better the starter or solenoid are, the less stops/starts, the better for the engine.
  16. Fuel supply may be back to normal by Memorial Day. But prices are a different animal. Inflation has become a real concern. According to the economists that have been on the radio the past few weeks, they all feel inflation for commodities, including fuel, will be a problem for at least the next 6 months.
  17. I'm fully vaccinated. But only because my wife is a nurse who treats covid patients. I wear a mask where I have to, but that's it. That being said, I have no problem if someone is more comfortable wearing a mask, indoors or outdoors, or staying isolated. Although, seeing a person, alone in a car, wearing a mask, makes no sense. By the same token, if I'm in an area where a mask isn't required, that's my choice too, so don't try to guilt me if I'm don't wear one.
  18. Its being run by the State of Ohio. Their Governor announced it. I would think they researched it before making the announcement.
  19. Just heard on the radio that when a name is pulled they will check it against their vaccination records. Don't know what happens if you had it done out of state. But,what they said was, that if the person whose name they pulled wasn't vaccinated, they pull another name. But, the State of Ohio will send the first person a letter saying "oh by the way . . . " .
  20. One, hopefully very temporary ,monkey wrench is that the CDC's position is considered "guidance". As Biden pointed out, individual jurisdictions,i.e. states make the decision whether or not to follow CDC guidance. I live in northern NJ. As of this morning Conn will be following the CDC guidance as of 5/19. The Governors on NY and NJ haven't made any decision. A Murphy spokeswoman said they're "reviewing " the CDC guidance.
  21. Not having to wear "face diapers " is great. But Anti Social Distancing goes away too. Only issue is that anyone can say they are vaccinated. Don't know if there is a mechanism to make someone show their card.
  22. As far as I know, every car with auto shutoff has an easy to see "A" button on the dash or console that you push to kill the auto shut off. Stays that way till you push the button again, or turn the engine off. I hate the auto shutoff. I just got into the habit of hitting the button as soon as I start the car.
  23. Ohio has an interesting idea for vaccinated people. They're having a 5 week lottery starting May 26,2021. They'll be a prize of $1,000,000 each week. For "younger residents" they will have a prize of a 4 year scholarship to any State university, including tuition, room and board.
