  1. It this "THE" Beno??? ..... from Indiana? Get over to the Cavalier forum now!
  2. What's a sop? Even us in CAC888 still can't get use to the word "trumpets"....... even though I have one in my hand during practices.
  3. Hey! GET TO WORK!!! KIDDIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the updates!
  4. Ahh.... no prob. I myself am looking for to the start of the year. Lots of things going on with the Green Team since it is our 60th Anniv. and Don Warren retiring. Good Luck!!
  5. "Idiot" may have been a harsh word but basically telling a grown man volunteering his time (and probably $$) to "stop playing and get back to work" in my eye's is just plain 'ol wrong.
  6. "...with all due respect... when you volunteer to help out a corps, any corps... IT IS NOT TO BE A REPORTER FOR DCP. you will be more appreciated if you put 100% of your time into actually helping out the corps." I don't know how to quote from another topic but I had to bring this over in case others have a problem finding it. This is the post Irving was talking about. What an idiot this guy is. Irving, keep doing what you are doing. 99% of everybody out there appreciates what you are doing. (although I question your choice of corps..... KIDDIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Without people like you, this activity dies. I spent many a hour behind a wheel of a truck driving from Oklahoma, , to Houston, to Dallas, to.... places I don't even remember. Ignore that person behind the curtain. He's an idiot.
  7. It's being kept a secret until we perform (standstill) at The Cavaliers home show on June 29th in Naperville. But I can tell you this: Opener: Something really old (50's and 60's) Flag Pres: Something old (60's) Concert: Old and somewhat old (a song palyed in 60's and 80's) Out of Concert: Medley of 80's tunes Closer: Medley of one 60's and 70's song (OK, I'll tell ya one - Rainbow), one 80's song and one 90's. Since The Cavaliers are mostly well known for our visuals, we will be perform many of the corps more famous moves from the past. These most likely will not be performed until CavJam (an all Cavalier exhibition on August 4th in Naperville) and the main performance semi finals night.
  8. What, no votes for The Cavalier Alumni Corps (aka CAC888)???!! Watch for me. I am T15 (Trumpet #15....this dot thing is wierd. LOL!) I am 2 steps inside the 40 (side 2), 7 steps in front of the front hash for our "starting line"... to use an old school term.
  9. Just FYI, CAC888 (Cavalier Alumni Corps performing on 8/8/08) is 100% Cavalier Alumni....... except for one member, Joe (Pete) Boyle. Joe marched in the Chi Angels then The Royals but became a huge Cavalier booster and volunteer through the 70's after The Royals folded. In fact, he is the reason why I am involved in this stupid drum corp activity Same can be said for many Cavaliers. Anyway, he is a "special guest" and will not be marching, technically, since he is legally blind and, let's say, "put on a few pounds" over the years but will take part is some way. Other then that; 100% green blooded Cavaliers. There was a discussion around the table at an Alumni Association meeting early on about possibly allowing certain alums from other corps but it was quickly rejected. We wanted this to be about us, Don Warren and most importantly, the current Cavaliers and their future.
  10. I was told a number but I don't remember. Coming from the old school I don't know what a high number is but I have heard that a few of vets were floored when given their dot sheets.
  11. Don't tell the wife but I just looked up Blue Stars schedule
  12. Here's an update: 1) 60th Anniv. 2) Don Stephans passed away but Rosemont is still behind the corps 3) Fielder is gone (he didn't do much for the corps anyway.... KIDDIN!!!!!) 4) Bruno's in 5) Don Warren is retiring (he didn't do much for the corps anyway.... DOUBLE KIDDIN!!!!!) 6) Alumni Corps is formed and practicing 7) Pretty much, same staff as last year 8) lots-o-vets this year 9) Will be champs come 8-9-08.... assuming there are Championships this year. Your updated.
  13. LOL! Wouldn't Cook and Star have helped in this situation? LOL!
  14. Samurai vs boxer. Sounds like a cage match. Can't wait.
  15. Except in the case of the use of props such as pink tables, doors, lawn chairs... and yes, ladders; just in case you turn this into a Maroon vs Green thing... which is not my intent.
  16. If you are going to quote my post make sure you quote the whole post: Although I agree, a mic is not meant to be a visual prop but it certainly is an item that an actor/marcher interacts with. Now, I am sure this can be said of a horn, drum or flag but a mic and amp is being used to help project a sound that can't be heard or be heard enough (in a designers view) using its natural way of projecting that sound. This is meant to create a different "scene or scenario". Example: if the Cadet members voices were not mic'd and amped last year, could we hear their voices? No. Wel,, at least not enough in George's view. Bottomline, if a sound cannot be heard using its natural way of being heard (drum drumming, horn playing), then it shouldn't be used. Again, this is my personal old time drum corps view. I did say that horns and drum can be concidered a prop by this definition. BTW, they are MY reasons so I have the right to nit-pick all I want. Just like you have the right to nit-pick my nit-picking. Bottomline, I throw all of it (amps, mics, props, guitars, electric piano's, etc) all in the same catagory. I just call them "props".
  17. prop (plural: props) An item placed on a stage to create a scene or scenario in which actors perform a play in a theatre or motion picture. Usually the term "props" is reserved for objects with which an actor interacts (e.g. a glass, a book or a weapon). Larger items adding to the scene, (e.g. chairs) are considered part of the set. "They used the trophy as a prop in the movie." Although I agree, a mic is not meant to be a visual prop but it certainly is an item that an actor/marcher interacts with. 18. Mics = Amps which I am against. I was just OK with the amping of the pit since some of the sounds that can be created can add to the experience on the field. BUT, I am 100% against voice. It is probably the old time drum corps person in me, but I do think there is a line to where this activity becomes not "drum corps" and it becomes BOA or WGI with horns. And we have crossed it. Obviously this subject has been discussed to death so I'll leave for another topic.
  19. The only thing "controversial" about any of the shows the Cadets do, in my opinion, is the use of props. Yes, I consider mics a prop. Yes, pink tables are props. Doors are props. Guards moving tables around the field are not marching. Rifles changing uniforms in the middle of field for 5 minutes during a show is not performing. Asking a fire department to sound their sirens during a show is not "performing" a show..... I can go on but you get the picture. I certainly have had issues with Cadet shows in the past, but there is one thing for sure that I agree with. Their members perform the heck out of whatever show I have seen them perform over the last several years. Once I look past the "stuff" I truely do enjoy most of what is done on the field. It's just too bad some of that talent isn't seen or heard by some people because of all the other stuff going on on the field. I never boo. I've been on the recieving end of booing and it ain't pretty. But I do respecfully disagree which I hope is still acceptable in this activity.
