  1. Having been a 3rd Sop at the Cadets, this thread is pretty hilarious to me.
  2. Nick, don't worry. The Cadets staff does not dissapoint. The practice feild is still 20 min walk away down a nice long hill, and the bugs are representing in force as well. The feild the guard used was a good 20 min walk in the opposite direction, down another incredibly long hill. (Feild lining was real cluster**** until we figured out where all the fields were...) All in all, I'm sure both places are a ton better than the parking lots they used to use in Bergen County.
  3. I'm excited to see how announcers will handle SCV's title. Should make for some high quality akwardness.
  4. Lee, obviously your marketing technique relies extensively on creating a buzz (negative or positive doesn't really matter when you're trying to get your point out.) So why are you so offended when your inciteful comments accomplish what you actually intended to do?
  5. Hey, guys. I don't think anyone mentioned it, but there weren't any yard markers or yard lines in Rochester. I bet Scranton would have had them!
  6. I personally like the end of this years SCV show. Just after the last chord, check out the last contra in the block as they're turning around on the multicam. A judge almost gets wrecked. The rifle drop in Crossmen '04 is pretty interesting, too. I felt really bad for her...
  7. No, I don't put in a year of work for the pleasure of performing for free. Is it really that hard to believe that people are lazy? Want a good example? Check out some college marching bands some time. Everybody wants their band to be the best, but nobody really puts in any effort.
  8. Why compete? Because compitition is a great motivator. Personally, if I weren't worried about how my corps is going to place the next show, I'd treat practice like I do school--Show up occasionally and do just enough to get a B. And nobody wants to watch corps that are simply content to be mediocre. And I'm sure you can cite some great non-competative ensembles, but I bet they were getting paid to be there. But to the original topic, I've noticed crowds getting increasingly quieter. When I was at DCI East this year, I started yelling for things I liked in the show, and the people around me looked like I was nuts. I don't think it has anything to do with what the corps are playing... Just not enough obnoxious fans like myself in the crowd.
  9. I took a look at a few of the articles with titles that seem like they would be bashing someone, and it looks like you covered most of your bases by removing any names or identifying details. Honestly, I don't think anyone is going to spend the time to browse through anything more than the ones I looked at (If you can be polite in article on political correctness, then you should pass all of their tests.) There's some bad language, sure, but if this is for a college, that should be fine. The picture in the '91 Tour Diary of the guy drinking (I'm assuming underage) might raise a flag, though. But again, if it's for college, I'm sure they're used to that.
  10. That was a mistake on my part. It was one of the older model mellos used by '04 Crossmen. I've heard the new mellos from Yamaha are better, but having tried neither, I wouldn't know.
  11. The low brass from Dynasty is wonderful. I've heard from members of Crossmen that marched with Bucs that they prefered both the Dynasty tuba and mellophone over the Yamaha equivelents. But as a trumpet player, There's nothing like a Xeno. Tried out one of the Cadets' used horns last year and fell in love instantly. Dynasty trumpets have manufacturing consistancy issues (our line did, anyway). Just looking down the line of 18 trumpets, there were obvious physical differences. (my second valve slide was half an inch shorter than 15-16 of the others.) There are quite a few bad notes in the upper register, but fake fingerings and a good ear solve most problems. We had to finger all high A's with 3, for example, and I used 3 different fingerings for high D, depending on the chord. If you're willing to put the time in, they're pretty good horns, and definatly cheap.
  12. Really? That was the strongest trumpet/sop section Reading has put on a feild on years. But either way, as the guy playing the upper lead book, I tried to blend the high notes into the sound of the section rather than hit people over the head with them, so I suppose that was my fault? You should have stuck around for the victory concert if you wanted to hear high notes. I'm sure I had our brass staff shaking their heads...
  13. Chris, I was simply making a point. Now, I haven't been a spectator at a DCA show since 2003, but I can't ever remember the audience ever overshadowing a good show. And as a performer, I've never noticed people moving around in the audience. If the problems really are that bad, then maybe it would be worth your time to ask them to quiet down yourself. I doubt a casual fan is reading your rants on DCP.
  14. I'm sorry one of our mothers offended you, but was it really necessary to bring her corps affiliation into the equation? If you need an appology from the corps, I can offer one, but the way you word it seems like you're more offended that she was with the Bucs than the fact that she was talking.
  15. I'll buy into that theory. The stadium certainly did seem a lot smaller than the usual finals venue. It felt like there was a bigger crowd at the Reading home show... Either way, when I saw the crowd extending well into endzone seating, I expected a much bigger reaction than was given.
  16. I have no points to make other than the one I have already made. I didn't say a word about your opinions. Also, I won't speak for the "DCI Types", but I prefer not to be stereotyped on my views [or lack thereof]. Thank you.
  17. I can't speak for the rest of us, but I would prefer that you not refer to yourself as the "fans of DCA". Thank you.
