Maybe I'm just getting old, senile or just plain tired. But I keep seeing all this crap about this corps sucks and that corps can walk on water etc. This corps should win it all and this corps won't make finals because...! This has to stop. You know Garfield does not have to suck for BD or Cavies or anyone else to be good. That's the nature of competition. Some are better at any point in time and some are not. Why do we have say "the show design for this corps is the worse ever" or this corps is "the best of all time" when we are trying to talk about each corps performances? The kids are putting out everyting they have with what they've got and for the most part the staff has tried to give them the vehicle to ride. I know I don't love or even like some corps "shows" but that does not translate into the show sucks or the design is the worse or anyting like that. I'm not a judge and even after 40 years of drum corps STILL miss things that maybe some others in the activity think to take for granted but one thing is as clear now as it was always. Performance is what matters not someones opinion of how a show is put together from seat number R34 in the stands after marching a couple of years. Hell my daughter can tell me who she likes and has no idea of show concept or design. But she knows what she likes. You know it's been said "a little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing" and I'm starting to believe it now. I'm a Glassmen honk...and Madison, Troopers, Blue Stars and CAVIES. But whatever happens I'm not going to say any corps that comes out on top that their show sucked or was the worst design or the staff let them down. Why don't all the arm chair quarterbacks just go get another drink from the fridge and wait for the end of the game for the score. Flame away. When you have dinosaur skin you get used to it.

Hey Sue....so true...so true. Back in the day when both Opti and Del were neck and neck with ALL the corps south of the border they couldn't get their due for the most part until the merger between Toronto and Seneca, and Oakland and Etobicoke! THEN the mountain was climbed. Madison WILL be back in the thick of things, just as SCV will be given time. It's too bad we live in a instant gratification world.

LOL. That's fair. But from any given show to the next that 1 point spread could grow back to 2 or more. The spread "before" SA was not 2 points if I remember. The fat lady not singing yet but she is warming up. Good luck to ALL the corps going for finals. This is a great season so far.

Ok. Cool. But then don't try and set up a "statiscal trend" by saying other corps have made gains and Glassmen are on a "slide down" then. It's not over till the fat lady sings and we don't even know what kind of dress she's wearing yet! No problem man.

Just as much freaking progress as all the "other" corps in their tier. Print out every corps score history from DCP for the 9th thru 15 spots and see other than maybe one show here or there where everybody else has jumped left and right except for the Glassmen? Like I said one show doesn't mean anything at this point. When one corps jumps it might take 1 or 2 shows but the others catch up. Where the heck is the "slide"?

Use the DCP database and look at how many corps this year have "moved either up or down" and even locked into a particular score range already (for a certain time frame). As far as "sliding" Gmen have been when judged at the same time (show) as their peers have been in around the 10th or llth spot ALL YEAR. So just how is the last DCP "standing" indicate a SLIDE to not making finals?

That's not what the recaps have been saying. One show does not make a trend. Or otherwise Xmen's score last night would put them out of it completly. As far as how a show seems to be written is just as much opinion as anything else! And it's worth just about as much. Anyway this is setting up to be one very exciting semi and quarter finals showdown.

This is getting REALLY interesting now. You have BD, PR and Cavies going for spots 1-3, you have Cadets and Crown tossing it up for 4/5, Coats and SCV fighting for 6/7 and little ole BK sitting pretty set for 8th. THEN you have Boston, Madison, Stars, and Gmen going for 9-12. Now I know that Xmen took a hit last night but anyone can have a bad night. So I see them fighting it out with Colts and Spirit to try and get back into the 11-12 spot. Now that also is only based on the latest scores. The rest of this week will shake things up AGAIN. Then of course Allentown will reset the playing field for Bloomington. Anything can happen now! WOW!

Agreed with respect to marching basics...rank and file coverage, interval and forms. We watched Atlanta with my in-laws (mother and sister-in-law) who are both old school drum corps from back in the day. They both commented on why corps weren't covering down or keeping the form and in a lot of cases out of step in a simple transition. Maybe jazz runs at 170 bpm are not the best thing to try if a corps can't clean the simple stuff. While the staff may be always looking for the next "visual" moment the audience takes a snap shot of every move that instant. If it works great. If not then the next move dies by comparison.

Look's like you'll be in forced retirement and I'll be suffering a couple of more years of this until my son ages out. But with all this suspense every year I'll probally have a heart attack before I can retire "corps parent duty" as well. Oh well.

Come on now...your getting to be an old vet at this now...how many shows have we've been waiting on the scores together now this season? lol. But you're right...I can't go to bed until I know the results.

I've stated before "anything" is possible...you know the saying on "any given night"! But rather than say "can the Glassmen MISS finals" why can't it be said CAN Xmen or the Mad crew or anyone else make finals? Gmen are in 11th place at the moment so at least two corps below them have to make a bigger move than so far shown in competition. I would have thought Xmen would have down so yesterday after watching their performance (which was the best I've seen so far this year) but Gmen held them off. I'm getting a little weary of all this "negative" speculation about Glassmen. You don't have to put another corps down to put your favorite corps up. The judges will do that just fine. If you want to see Xmen, Madison or anyone else in finals then wish them luck in cleaning their shows, putting on a heck of a semi show and hope the judges give everyone a fair shake. Nuff said.

Pun intended...it's FANtastic! My wife thought I was nuts to get it but since she can keep up with our son marching all over and LIVE...she loves it. Plus to watch it the next day and see more details of each show is great. I love the multi-cam choice and special videos of each corps as well. When it used to take us almost a week back in the day to just get scores we would have KILLED to have this service then. Hats off to DCI for really being FANtastic!!! If they would offer finals as well as semis I think the subscriptions would go thru the roof.

Yep...perfect analysis. The kids do PERFORMANCE and the judges do DESIGN for the "most" part. With that type of judging the kids will lose every time depending on what the design staff and instructors come up with. The Tsar is right on...again.

Hey Jeeter...this has NOTHING to do with freedom to vote or our right to having another opinion other than the majority. You can be as pluralistic as you want... but this is DRUM CORPS...not marching band, an opera company, or the ballet. YOU are entitled to your opinion as everyone else...but if you bring it in here and start talking about OTHER art forms then guess what...you're going to get flamed. Nuff said.
