  1. This is the second viewing of all these corps (except Colts) for me live. Just a couple thoughts I came away with. Cavaliers show is great. I mean top 5 easy if performed they way the design team intended. I told my son, who happens to be a huge PR fan, the Cavies would be catching and passing PR very soon. Right now, PR is cleaner but Cavies have a vastly superior show. Honestly the pit feature might be the coolest thing on the field this year. Not that I want to compare Cavies show to Machine, but there are several times where you can just feel Cavies getting there swag back like they had with Machine. They are good, real good. PR plays beautifully and the costume change works for me big time, especially how bad ### the drumline looks when going all black. Other than that, PR has a very nice show, I just feel like I've seen it many times before from them. Madison had a LONG rehearsal yesterday and you could really see that at the run through yesterday afternoon. The Flam section is just great and I still say the snares are the best section in the corps. They can really play. I asked a snare player after the show why they only had 7 and apparently the had intended to march 8 but a member tore his meniscus. Not a fan if the new ending and the guard just does not stand out, not sure why. Stars have a nice show but trying to decipeher the theme is a bit confusing. Colts, narration is a major distraction and the concept is strange to me. Loved Troop always do, good guard. Fun show.
  2. Very little talk about Madison's home show tonight. I am going as always but wondering if there is open practice and if there is the pre party as in years past?
  3. Percussion score is shocking. Just saw Crown 2 nights ago in Rockford and they weren't in the same zip code Madison was. And ahead of Cadets? Wow!
  4. I wouldn't say it's the line, more the book. They still play the hell out of those horns, but really, matching E=MC 2 can not be an easy task.
  5. I was at the show last night and have just a few thoughts on the Madison discussion. This show is awesome and definitely got the biggest cheers throughout. It is packed with energy, come mid July they will be peeling paint. Drums, coming from a drum guy were in my estimation the best at the show, much cleaner than everyone. Horns sounded cleaner. Musically, Madison's Brass/Percussion/Battery were more in time than anyone else. Best first show I've seen from then since I can remember. The biggest thing I came away with was how much this show can grow compared to other years. I'm telling you, this show is vastly different than the prior 3-4 years. I didn't come away saying, you know, I love the first few minutes and the last few minutes. The show is musically great throughout. They look great in white, but it's too much white. Pants need a stripe or something to separate themselves from the jacket. It looks like they are not very well fitted, especially the pants. Whatever material Crown has with their space pants would look much better. I look forward to where this show will go this summer. Cavaliers also have a vastly improved show. They are looking like the Cavies of old. This show is also going places. Guard looked great, marching looked great and horns sounded great. They have the best Pit feature I've ever seen and won't ruin it for those that haven't seen it, but it was freaking awesome. Glad to see Cavies this strong, this early. They have a ton of content to work with. I enjoyed this show much more than anything they have had recently. I see them easily passing Phantom. Crown. Yep, horns are the strength again and drums need big work. A lot going on visually and the trampolines, at least from my field perspective got lost. First percussion feature with the mufflers is better in person than the broadcast from GW the other night. I would love to play Mellophone for this corps, wow that section rips. Like the blue pants, it shows well on the field. Horn book is very good but not at the same level as last year. Drums were very sloppy. Phantom. Those dangly things need to go. Brass, especially Baritones sounded great and guard commanded your attention. It was a home show for Phantom and judging by crowd reaction you would have thought differently. Madison and Crown had people on there feet much faster. This show is ok for me, but not as memorable as the 3 above. Stars, Troop, Spirit and Pioneer were enjoyable. And will try adding something on them when I have more time. Glad I drove the 2 hours to see the show last night. Very enjoyable.
  6. Im 45. Saw my first show in 83 and the love affair started.
  7. Well he definetly liked Madison tonight. Whens the last time Madison was 5th in drums?
  8. Yeah, i posted that not knowing about the penalty. Still not real clear as to what specifically happend other than they used baby powder and were penalized a point. Sounds kind of silly.
  9. Surprise scores of the night for me are Madison and BK. Madison 2 pointed Boston...wow. 12th place guard hurts but huge props to them not quitting. 6th place percussion, yowza. BK, who saw passing Boston coming? Crazy good season with postions 1-10 not even close to cemented. Awesome year!
  10. Madison in front of Crown in Percussion may have helped just a bit tonight. Must have had a great night. Color guard, another story.
  11. Id be curious to see finals attendance from other venues. Madison, Atlanta, Rose Bowl...etc. 17,000 people at the premier event in DCI seems kind of sad.
  12. Madison has been in the mid 80s for quite some time. Are they not improving?
  13. Completely agree about performance order. If you have been beating a certain corps throughout the year, then you should have earned the right to go on after them. I have always hated how DCI puts them in groups, then "supposedly" pulls names out of a hat. Interesting it seems the Scouts always get drawn to go on first. This has to end. It's ridiculous and really penalizes prior winning. One thing no one is talking about this morning is how close Madison is to Bloo. Get it Madison!
  14. I saw Madison and Cavaliers at DOP. I definitely felt Madison were much cleaner and had a better show at that time, but left the show kind of knowing Cavies had much more to work with. Look at percussion and visual scores, therein lies the story.
  15. Kind if figured such, either way, it's accurate and updated daily for those who care.
  16. They still update score standings daily. http://dciscores.com/world/
  17. 1 Madison Scouts 74.400 2 Blue Stars 70.500 3 Crossmen 70.300 4 Troopers 68.300 5 Colts 66.600
  18. Pioneer 57.9, Colts 65.5, Troopers 68.2, Blue Stars 68.3, Cross men 68.4. Cavaliers 73.8, Madison 75.1
  19. At practice now and Ice Castles with Alumni is spectacular. Holy chills. This place will go nuts tonight
  20. I'll be there early to watch practice and have some beers at the tailgate party. Can't wait.
