  1. for a second i thought you were going to rickroll me...thankfully you didn't....even though its happened to me at least 5 times on this site alone haha.
  2. i wasn't aware that Thrower wasn't the arranger for the 'Coats this past year...
  3. You're exactly right. I mean, the Bluecoats are probably the most talented drum corps in DCI. Again, it all comes down to design.
  4. Are you a music major? If so, just take something difficult that you play in the studio back at school. If not, play a solo that you've played before thats difficult but that you can sound great on.
  5. Well, most of those "jazz chords" you're talking about ARE minor chords, or are set upon scales in the Dorian mode. I'm pretty sure Cadets 07 ended in a minor chord.
  6. Really? 2008 was the year of the Phantom honk. Which is ok, they were good. I don't understand whats wrong with the honks...I mean the overhype gets annoying, but if the corps delivers, then who cares?
  7. Because you are... haha. Sorry, I don't like the overhype either, but its just a fact of life. Lots of corps get overhyped. Its ok man, relax.
  8. I don't really like their approach to brass playing at all, or their visual program. It is quite obvious that Devils had the upper hand in performance and execution. However, I have to admit that they are an extremely emotional drum corps that wanted to win more than anything, and well, they DID win. Good for them
  9. tickbox - someone who seems to manage to tick every rep. bag out/bagging out - a person who either pretends to be sick because they can't handle it, or someone who doesn't play during the show because they aren't in good enough shape. Competitive Inertia - a made up excuse for the people who want their corps to win. SYS/Second Year Syndrome - when a 2nd year veteran comes back and thinks they are the greatest thing in the world because they have marched 1 season of corps. Supervet/Superageout - a veteran or ageout who believes that since they have been a member of the corps for many years that they can be as rude and hateful as possible to all other members of the drum corps with no consequences. Stadium Day - excuse for the staff to schedule 5 hour back to back blocks. Rule # 9 - Figure it out.
  10. Really? So there were only 23 non ageout veterans in the drum corps this year? That doesn't seem like a very high number...
  11. BD 05. SCV 05 On a side note, SCV 05 happens to be one of my favorite shows ever. It was one of the first shows I ever saw live. I mainly love the opener, but just the entire show is really great. Love it. I never thought I would find myself saying that, but I watched it yesterday, and realized how cool of a show it is. So what if the visual technique isn't the best? So what if it wasn't squeaky clean? It really is just awesome, great music, with some cool looking drill. Love the Hammer/Scythe and the star in the opener. The end of the show is just sweet. If this show had been cleaner, oh man...
  12. Actually most drum corps people would say quite the opposite. Most tuba sections are much better musically than they are visually. So I would correct that by saying "They are meant to be heard, but not seen" lol
  13. lol @ people saying that visual technique isn't as good as it was in the 90's. Did you SEE the top 4 in visual technique this year? Blue Devils, Cadets, Cavaliers, and Crown... I'll take my jazz running and straight legs over your bent legged, sloppy backwards style technique any day of the week.
