  1. No Lucas Oil in '09 right? I thought that was one of ten years that it wasn't going to be at Lucas Oil.
  2. April Fools was 3 days ago!!!! Agh dang. Here comes a bunch more flak from people towards DCI *prepares*.
  3. Wasn't Lucas Oil Stadium designed around having good acoustics for DCI? I'm sure I read somewhere that if DCI wasn't going to be there, there wouldn't be a retractable roof for Lucas Oil, so I'm assuming that they're designing it so acoustics sound really good. I'm not worried about it even if the roof is shut, I'm sure it will still sound amazing and the least dome-like of all. The other domes weren't built for good acoustics if I'm not mistaken, they where just built for football, I'm confident about this stadium.
  4. Well, I thought someone would bring that up, and you're right, but thats not exactly what I meant, I was vague on that. I meant whether or not you should go left or right to avoid this person, how you should take another person down, or something like that (I'm no football expert).
  5. Drum corps is definitely a sport I think, BUT I don't think its nearly the hardest. It's definitely harder than most high school teams, or even college sports teams, but I don't think that its harder than say the NFL for example. They don't have a routine during a game, they have to develope strategies real time and, I know you shouldn't in drum corps, but they definitely can't go through the motions. They're in better shape too I think, I mean.... just look at them. It doesn't have as much stress either, because obviously drum corps fills up less than half of a stadium for finals, when big NFL or even college games fill up the entire stadium, and you're there in front of everybody. If you mess up, everyone will see it happen, not to mention that it's also on television a lot of the times. Mentally and physically I think there are many harder sports than drum corps, not to say DCI isn't hard, because it's the hardest thing I've ever done.
  6. Well, if you divide six by 3hree, you get 2. What's that mean, second place? I don't know!
  7. I saw it earlier, and now I don't. Must have taken it off?
  8. I wouldn't make any judgments on the trumpets, or hornline's tone, the recording itself sounds kinda iffy.
  9. Generally I've noticed that its not advertised where they're practicing, or when so it can be somewhat difficult, but sometimes it is. The Blue Devils generally practice at Diablo Valley College, and I think on their website I've seen them post camp dates, but for corps like SCV I haven't seen dates or locations (they might have an usual place to go too, idk). Then again, I haven't looked very hard either. For Mandarins its posted on the public section of the website, usually under audition information. The past camps there has been performances at the end.
  10. It is a lot easier to make discussion about something bad and controversial rather than something good (unless its really good, then it'll get a little more discussion). Arguments are what (from what I've seen) keeps a forum thriving. It would be a lot nicer if people could always be respectful to eachother (which I have been seeing more of lately), but I think its the sad truth of forums. It's also harder to be positive when there's not too much going on in the drum corps activity as of now (obviously more than September, but still...). Many people on the forums disagree with the rule changes, and thats been the biggest thing on the forums lately other than smaller things like the countdown and all that.
  11. As I've been told, "if someone knows you are marching with us, you are representing the entire corps." Obviously everyone has a different opinion, and with the nature of forums people will repeatedly be disrespectful and voice there opinion like its the only one that matters and is right, and thats where most of the problems start. Now, where I'll have to disagree with you is the fact that one person shouldn't change peoples view on the entire corps, because obviously get 150 people together and there will be many different personalities, but unfortunately people do change their view based on one member's actions. That's my perfect world, but that's not reality. You're right, members, plural, are the corps, but one person shouldn't be enough to make that kind of difference. I'm having trouble explaining this, possibly because I'm tired, by the way. I know the corps I have and am marching with prefers we don't post on DCP, but doesn't have a rule written in stone about it, which is the reason why I rarely try and say anything controversial. I'm mainly just a reader, and when I come across things I think I won't be able to handle with respect and maturity, I'll leave it be. Sometimes there's holes in what I say, or misunderstandings because I lacked clarity, so there's more reasons. Oh, and by the way, those who are reading this and don't know what CMM is, its current marching member or some variation of it, I guessed what it was when I saw the topic title.
  12. People aren't looking at the poll results before they vote, so they end up wasting their immunity vote. We know PR's not gonna get eliminated based on results, so that would be 32 more votes elsewhere for immunity.
  13. Don't vote for immunity if the corps has the least votes to be eliminated, otherwise its a wasted vote. Vote for a corps you think might get eliminated that you would least like to have.
  14. I'm sad to see Cavies getting so many votes, I'm surprised. I really loved their show last year, but I do have to say it took a while to grow onto me.
  15. 2007 was a really nice year, and that was my rookie year. My hottest day wasn't on tour, but actually at home while sitting down off to the side. We were all sweating like pigs, even more so in that area for some reason rather than marching, and it wasn't humid or anything. That was the hottest I remember, on tour it was probably Ogden Utah, but the most miserable (which wasn't that bad mind you) was Dallas because of the humidity. Thats the hottest I've had, and again it really wasn't too horrible, '07 was a lucky year weatherwise. I should wait till its over 100 in the humidity.
  16. Since there's only 20 corps now anyhow, I'm obviously not a planner but why not just have all WC corps be in the cinecast for quarters, it's what, at most less than an hour.
  17. I like the idea of either having semis be top 16 or top 15, and maybe finalists top 10, that would make more sense to me. Another idea I like is still having 3 performances, but having what used to be "quarterfinals" be you know, just placing the time slots for corps for semi's. I'm not sure if that would work so well, and so I like idea 1 better. Hopefully some open class comes to world class, and some world class corps come back, I think merging Div III and II would help with preventing a few amount of corps in those divisions so I think that bringing some up is entirely possible, if the corps are up to it.
  18. I'm not going to post a whole list, but I really think Pacific Crest is going to climb. I've heard they got a large bunch of auditions (probably because champs were held nearby), so all the marching band people who want to do DCI will do it based upon location. Just my 10 cents. Bigsnareline, you skipped number 19 on your list, and so you're missing Mandarins.
  19. Now I'm really not all that educated about the classics, I've only watched all of 1991 (DVD), watched/listened to some 1995 on the platinum membership at dci.org, watched most of the 2004, most of 2006, and all of 2007. After that list, I'll make my best choice, and my choice would probably be 1991, then 2004, then 2007. 1991: I own the DVD, and I never actually watched past SCV that year until a long time later. Every single show on that DVD entertained me to pieces, and although not the cleanest I never lost interest. Cavies, god what a bad*ss brass, not to mention the percussion and... probably the most amazing of that show to me, the color guard. Vanguard had a very... lets say different show but extremely entertaining. I loved the different entrance and exit to the field they had that year. Blue Devils, I love the opener, I love the ballad, and I love the closer, where the trumpet screamer went up to a what, double d? Crossmen had an entertaining opener, I like that one too. Freelancers, I nearly fell out of my chair laughing when I saw the piccolo trumpet solo, you wouldn't really understand unless you see what I'm talking about. I was thoroughly entertained watching from 1 to 12 on that DVD. 1995: I don't have that DVD, so I haven't really watched all of the shows, but the planets was an amazing show. I haven't watched that too much, so I'll probably ramble on more about the Blue Devils. I love their show, as it also keeps me entertained from top to bottom. I haven't actually seen the Vanguards show, but I've heard it a few times, sounds like traditional Vanguard class, but the opening trumpet solo really speaks to me. 2004: Got this DVD as well, and Cavie's show has to be one of my favorite. I'll be honest with you about Blue Devils show that year, the only reason why I madly love that show is the two trumpet screamers that year. It would still be an interesting show to me, but not the most, although I do love some of the aspects (accelerando, finals exit, train theme). Although I believe Eureka comes pretty close to this show, Scheherezade still is my favorite Vanguard show. One of many things to point out, their ripples looked so seamless. Unfortunately there's somewhat of a gap of shows that are really cool to watch, just not my choice through the middle. Crossmen's show that year was stunning, with how well the brass did. I'm always entertained watching through that show. Madison Scouts? Oh boy, what a kicka** show, start to finish, but especially the finish. I have a midseason recording as well, I'm not sure where but its in a dome. 2006/2007: A lot of very entertaining shows on these years, I'm glad I have the DVD's for this one also. Well there's my lengthy review, although you just asked what my favorite year was. Oh well.
  20. I'm sure you've heard this before, but nobody really appreciates a screamer like a trumpet player, or maybe a brass player at the least. To the untrained ear, it just doesn't sound very good, and sounds very forced, and not very musical. I love screamers and it sounds really awesome, but I don't think there's solos designed for that because of that reason. Tone easily gets covered up if its playing in some loud chord, and it may make it sound more full, and that to me is the right place if there is one. I'd love to hear some screaming solos, they always give me goosebumps, but I don't know if the majority of the crowd really cares or wants to hear it. Just my 3 cents.
  21. I have to thankyou all again, I really didn't expect having many replies or this much helpful info. Thanks everyone, reading this has helped me get ideas, but what I really need to do is practice (and a lot of practice it will take!).
  22. Well, I came back and I didn't know most of the commands because it was radically changed in band camp from the year previous. I missed band camp at finals, and missed a lot of what happened. There were the same commands as drum corps sometimes, but they had different meanings, which threw me off. Also holding the horns different, but that didn't take long to get back into.
  23. I believe it will be another strong year for DCI as well, with all of the top 7 striving to get a higher placement this year, I think competition will be just as intense. There might be some big switch ups as well as far as placement among the top 7 goes, and we'll have to see.
  24. Just think of Bluecoats, Carolina Crown, or any other really good affects from this year or others on narration. It can be really cool.
