  1. which would be Open Class Quarterfinals, Tuesday, August 5, Michigan City, IN
  2. saying div III makes sense in that SCVC did compete in div II. remember, the corps had the option of choosing which division if they were withing the 71-79 members, so if they chose to make a move, it would have been to div III, which is not what happened.
  3. So who else is going through evaluations? We know currently that Legends and Yamato are, and since Marion Cadets aren't listed yet on the DCI calendar, I would assume they are as well...who else is try to either make a come-back or come out for the first time?
  4. fair enough...just going off of DCI's current info...good luck on the process from here out
  5. nope...there were smaller corps last year beating larger corps all summer. even div III corps scoring higher than div II corps. a hornline that was twice the size of a second one got 5 pointed in a single competition (which was funny cause the larger hornline was cracking jokes about the smaller one...wonder if they saw that score sheet?)
  6. DCI has Legends listed as an exhibition corps so unless things are changing with that, that's where they should be. Yamato is up for review and could stir the pot. Lest we forget the Capital Sound of 2007 was under mostly new staff and new corps director, so while the previous acheivements can only be used to predict so far...last year's acheivements are more likely to be a measuring stick of future showings. I'm finding myself quite surprised at all the love VK is getting with being predicted into a lot of "finals." Yes, they had a good showing last year, but it was only their first year, and just because they share a name with a corps that everyone loves, let us not assume it is the exact same corps because it is a "re-birth" if you want to go so far. That being said, "Open Class" (bump that, it's still II/III in my eyes) will be some great competition as it usually is. And I for one am looking forward to a great summer.
  7. here's what you need to know...from the beginning there are all these rules. once you get to the 20th century, throw those out the window and anything goes.
  8. don't want to say i told everyone so...so i won't nobody believes i have inside sources
  9. it's getting there...don't drum corps now boast huge numbers of attendees for auditioning? isn't the average age of the corps members higher than in previous decades with many college music majors? yes no lighting things, and people pay to play as opposed to getting paid to play, but it's not as far off as it might seem
  10. Academy had been applying since they began competing to see where they stood as an organization and to get the DCI input. my source tells me that they were basically begged to move up last season in response to Magic and Cap Reg going inactive (and KK staying inactive). -i heard things-
  11. while i don't really have a feeling on this particular proposal either way, i have to wonder is it really supposed to be about the investment of the staff?
  12. how is the upper register in the tuba? i found the yamaha to have a very thin unsupported sound up there. the overall quality of the jupiter products are improving...are they the best on the market in general? no, but every company has to start somewhere.
  13. that scenario is moot since ever since after 2002 the rule was changed so II/III corps can't participate in Div I finals week events
  14. the only time i prefer sousaphones is for long boring parades...otherwise give me a tuba anytime
  15. i understand this is the rule change discussion forum, but shouldn't something like this be posted in the general discussion where presumably it would get more exposure? since a bylaw change is not a rule change, there's no conflict in that. to address the topic itself, mind-boggling...simply mind-boggling...DCA here some corps come
  16. 1. i'm pretty sure there are appearance fees. 2. the Open Class Board of Directors vote on everything, then the collective receives one vote in the DCI BoD vote. 3. can't help you here, i don't know how that would work.
  17. how many "world class" corps have we seen in the past few years that didn't have 135? there were Div I's that didn't even have 100. to address the OT...there used to be circuits, DC West, DC Midwest, DC East, and i believe DC South...they were basically absorbed into the DCI fold. DCM was the last holdout, but there wasn't enough "big name" corps willing to participate, especially in part since their rules were not exactly the same as DCI, and eventually they ceased operations.
  18. well they did only say horn spots...but still....???
  19. when i did the parade in the past it started from "It's a Small World" moving towards Main St. USA (or reverse the next year), did that change?
  20. and you're basing this is on.....? have you personally been to camps of each of those corps?
  21. i heard he was called in to clean up after someone else's mess...it wasn't what he would have designed - i heard from someone
  22. a corps can benefit by staying between the 30s if they are one of the smaller corps, because if you try to use the whole field it spreads your members all over and can make you look even smaller. i expect big news about discussion of the future of the "Open Class" in regards to where the corps might be in the next few years
