  1. My Junior corps, the Menominee Northernaires were all male until 1970.
  2. They still host a show. But now it is DCA show. Others Woodstock IL Dixon IL Wisconsin Rapids WI
  3. Mr. Seymour, my sage pal, mentioned the Bach 3C Megatone, which is a fine mpc., used by lots, forced onto the masses by too many. (I never will fathom telling everyone in the sop line, "You're all going to wear size 10 Dinkles.") That aside, the 3C is an excellent mpc., and is a sort of new standard, just as many used to/still do play the Schilke 14A4a. The Bach Megatone series are considered to surpass the standard Bachs by many, but do cost more. -- -- Jeff, please PM me. How do you like your new Powerbore? Elizabeth, this is more than you asked about, but ya' gotta start learning more about mpc's sometime. I've noticed that one does have to work harder on flexabilitie(sp)exercises with the megatone.
  4. Right now,I use a Bach 3c megatone.Deep rich sounds. I play 3rd sop,so I don't have to worry a lot about the upper ranges. But that doesn't mean I can't get up there with the megatone, when needed. It fits great in my Kanstul powerbore. I also liked my CG3.
  5. The horn is sold. It sure went fast thanks for all the responces.
  6. I will be selling my Kanstul powerbore sop and case,as soon as my new one comes in. I should have my new one sometime around mid April. The horn has some tiny character dings and the finger pads show wear. And the slide stop has been replaced. Price $350 I'll get some pictures to whoever is interested. I'll pay shipping. If interested contact jseymour@new.rr.com
  7. We were the ones who had that honor of going on right after the Inspires. But if judging is supposed to be fair, then it should not matter when a corps goes on. So had we earned a higher score we would have gotten it. We just didn't get the job done that night.
  8. Concerning Chops. I have nothing but respect for this corp. But They chose to compete in class A. Their prelim score was good enough to beat Frontier only and that was it.They would not have made finals. As is they had a safety net and could fall back on the fact that they could still get into the Class A finals, to me this is a unfair advantage for the class A corps .They get two shots, don't make one you get into the other.
  9. Had to use the Kilties, hey ED :P they wouldn't be in finals with a lower score. I believe(correct me if I'm wrong)The way it is now if a class A corps has a better score than an open class corps, the class A corps could possibly get into open class finals. I think the better scoring corps should get in But I do believe that they should throw out the Class A division and have everyone take the same chance in open competion.
  10. We have a members coming in from Texas and from Arkansas.
  11. I was just talking to a fellow Northernaire Alum(Menominee,Mich) about why we never went national. If you look back the corps had beat the likes of Madison in the mid sixties. Part of it was the fact the corps didn't have enough cash for the big name Instructors. We did have LLoyd Pesola up to 69.But he went on to bigger things. Also the Director of the corps believed that the corps should only be a weekend corps, traveling to any big name shows was out of the question.I would guess that the very same scenario played out for a lot of the Upper Mich corps. We had a group of 6 horn players that would play, after a contest, for Annie Mixdorf. She used to come over to the corps and say "where's my boys".
  12. One should be able to express thier opinions. How one expresses the opinions is what makes the difference. I personally believe you cannot be 100% Politically Correct and be totally honest. Personally I think what the corps of today are doing is phenomenal. Do I agree with all that is evolving? The way I choose to submit my disagreements,is going determine the way people look at said disagreements. If I go off the wall and start ranting and bashing, who's going to listen.I know I for one would turn and walk away from someone like that. If I present things in a positive nature, which I like to call constructive criticism, people will still disagree. But some times a stinky cigar is just that,a stinky cigar. And it's up to the individual to determine how they are going to get rid of the smell Disclaimer: It all sounds good in my head. It's when I start trying to put it down in type,is where the trouble comes in.
