  1. Not to digress, but geometrically speaking, this is redundant. A line is a straight arrangement of points. If it's not straight, it's not a line.
  2. Tony Perkins - http://www.wishtv.com/Global/story.asp?S=48630 Flooding and Freezing. Crazy stuff 'round these parts.
  3. Limited Edition - Columbus, OH. I rarely see them mentioned - only a short mention in the "Dead corps to bring back" thread. How 'bout it? I really enjoyed them. I loved their bold music selection in '89, '90, '91. Especially "The Gods" show in 1989. This was the year before I marched drum corps, and it really sucked me in. For a short-sighted teenager, that was not too impressed with DII/III at the time, I had a rare appreciation for a small bunch that appeared well seasoned and disciplined (read "hard-nosed attitude"). I must admit, if I had not made the Bluecoats in '90, I was thinking of LE or Glassmen next. Nothing against the Glassman of that era, but I was leaning LE. Anybody care to share some thoughts on Limited Edition? =============== On a completely un-related note, this is making me feel old. This is the first corps, that I witnessed both the creation and ending, that fully qualifies for the Historic discussion board. (I don't count Star, 'cause whe I first saw them, I had no idea what I was watching. :P )
  4. I resemble that remark! And holy crap were they ever LOUD! Yet, they pulled off "Got it Bad..." with such a soft touch. Too bad the only 'coats hornline mentioned here was mentioned by a 'coat. Guess that just proves how overlooked they really are.
  5. I will leave the renegade, intra-member justice for conversations with my co-alumn, and not these boards. But as far as corps-wide punishment, here's one. One night during tour(in Charleston, IL?) the gym sleeping arrangements got a little to "mixed" from a male/female perspective. A certain large and looming former Cavalier (who has since returned to the Cavaliers) that was heading our visual staff saw a little too much. During the AM M&M, he announced to the corps his displeasure, and his reasoning. Then preceded to have us do a 35 minute session of M&M block on our heels - not touching anything but our heels to the ground - at attention the entire time. He was teaching everyone a lesson (and knowing him, probably hoping to spawn some intra-member justice against the perps). Turns out that he had no personal qualms with what was going on, but was really concerned what we were potraying to the boosters and support staff. BTW - this is probably a mild story, but hey, it was the 90's.
  6. An apparent '80s drum corps type photo is appearing at the humorous, yet risque Something Awful. Do my eyes trick me, or is this fella reading a 1981 DCI yearbook or something? BTW - the article with the photo has nothing to do with drum corps, or the photo itself.
  7. Funny how it all just blurs as time passes. Anyhow. That tape is a fascinating study. Rarely, in those times, did you hear a judge get so caught up in the pit (which, BTW, did deserve 1st .... often). With the recent grumblings and changes in percussion judging revolving around the pit, that would serve as learning experience. And this comment comes from a member of the 1991 battery.
  8. Who won Field Percussion at the 1991 Preview of Champions Prelims (Whitewater) against all of the top corps while finishing a more typical 10th in Ensemble?
  9. In terms of talent development, 1989 was the year that Star made the jump. Then they were given a program to push the kids and staff in 1990 - so the progamming made the leap in '90. That being said, I prefer '89. But I am a drummer. So can you blame me? I also fancy myself an old-schooler with strong Indiana/midwest ties. So when Star became Cadets of Monroe County in 90, it shook some of my resolve. On a side note, I remember listening to a stand-still run-through in May of '90, thinking that they were in for a looooooong, and disappointing year. The music was horribly messy. They had 3 or 4 sections that had to be cut and restarted - and that was without the marching. I was right about one thing - they had a looooong summer, as my friends in Star attested. But it was far from a disappointment.
