  1. Demand is "simultaneous responsibilities". I didn't say the Cavaliers just "stand there and catch" with each toss. I said they find clever sequences to "mask" how they are catching as an ensemble. I do know a little something about color guard, as in winning the caption my age-out year.
  2. Agree with comments about BD's guard and dance....they integrate the equipment w/dance better than anyone, but from a true demand concept...I've seen better from them. Cavaliers. Does anyone else not notice that most high tosses are caught NOT in a solid position where you can tell if someone's out of the ensemble, BUT with a maneuver that "rolls" into another sequence, so it's hard to tell if the toss/catch is clean? Last year during the Joel show, they did more somersaults and other gymnastic stuff out of tosses.....a really good way to hide your (lack of) cleanliness/tightness. It'll be interesting to see how the 3-day collective scoring goes next week. Crown's guard is fun to watch, and the demand is high. It's all good!
  3. Different shows, yes, but 1.05 between BD, Cavs, and Crown. Interested to see where PR comes in there. Can't wait to get to Bloomington next week!!!!
  4. 29 years of drum corps has taught me much, and one of those things is that you can NEVER count out The Cadets. If I'm not mistaken, they are the ones that started the trend of the "entire summer tour". While other corps were getting time off between 1st and 2nd tours, Garfield (et al) was holed up in some location during the break working on their show.
  5. BD hitting the nail on the head? Absurd! Stop with the generalization that "the crown people" think they are better than everyone in every caption. By people do you mean the staff and organization and members? Have you met and interviewed them? Please don't count the commentary of the collective here on DCP.
  6. Indeed! Biggest crowd in their 21-year history! I can't write a review as I was working on the front sideline and couldn't see/hear from up high. Weather was perfect, Rondinaro was a hoot, the stadium was full...drum corps is awesome! Kumbaya!
  7. And that's fine, because your opinion is just as valid as everyone else's. My opinion is that last year's guard WAS amazing. The talent level only increased this year (highest number of auditionees ever), and the content was written by the same wonderful staff. Therefore, I find this year's guard better. Some of that rifle work...geez!!!!
  8. Well, the year isn't over yet. The Patriots were the better team last year.....until the Super Bowl!
  9. I don't think the concept of "home show" means squat to judges.....maybe the tendency by judges is to make sure a corps doesn't expect great things at their home show. Who knows? Or maybe it was an off night? So many questions....
  10. The hosting site had a hiccup. It's up again!
  11. I was at field level, so I can't say for sure. Cavs had a very exposed drop during a feature on the 50. Saw a few Crown rifle catches (looked like 6's) that were right on the money. If I had any faith in the judging process and community, I would wonder about such things. Maybe after being a fan of drum corps for 29 years, I'm just jaded to the perceived "fairness" of it all.
  12. Most certainly you haven't been privy to prior onfield "discussions" about weather situations. The dynamic between show promoter/corps directors/DCI reps is unique, to say the least. Going to bat for the fans IS ALWAYS the position of the guys who run NightBEAT. Nothing ventured, nothing gained. You're gonna miss a great show! We wish you'd make the trip.
  13. There may be some brief precip today, maybe even a drop tonight. Looking pretty good, though. Awfully humid right now. The CrownEvents guys are great at adjusting the timeline, if need be, to suit any weather situations. As for having to meet with DCI reps and corps directors, they are also notorious for being bulldog tough in making sure the fans get a show!
  14. They put the IU on the 50. They could've waited.
  15. I've never been to Atlanta, since DCI always puts our show the following evening....and there's always too much to do here to get away to Atlanta!! At least I have the Fan Network, albeit NO comparison to actually being there...
  16. Me, too, Barry. The Bell System OWNED your phone...you did not!
  17. But is it illegal to report on any suspicious marching/musical activity in the Murfreesboro city limits????????
  18. But can you tell how much of my post I was standing still during? And how much I was marching?
  19. A record crowd (in NightBEAT history!) is expected: American Legion Memorial Stadium Charlotte, NC Sunday July 27th 7:00pm EST Pioneer Crossmen Glassmen Blue Knights Boston Crusaders Blue Devils The Cavaliers Carolina Crown Come on over!
  20. Apparently they're coming to NightBEAT in Charlotte Sunday night.....ticket manifest shows (as of this writing) 5,237 tickets SOLD....with two full days left to purchase! And it's not even a DCI show!
  21. Unless every arranger for every corps is a COMPOSER too, every show is a rip-off of something. "There is nothing new under the sun" Ecclesiastes 1:9
