  1. I am the Stanbury Uniforms sales manager for the Ca-Nv-Az region, a career I began in 2007 and continue in today. As well, I have been involved with the Blue Devils since 2007. I was a proud C corps parent in 2010 and 2012, and I aided and assisted Pete Emmons on A corps tour needs from 2007 thru 2013. From 2009 thru 2014 I developed and managed System Blue educational clinics and some international events. In 2014 I became the Manager/Director of the A corps, a role I continue in today. I stay busy.... 🙂
  2. Stanbury Uniforms is based in Brookfield, Mo, and all manufacturing (design, patterning, cutting, assembly, shipping) is done at the Brookfield and Milan, Mo facilities. Stanbury's factory is a fully unionized-shop and all fabrics used are US made. None of Stanbury's products nor any of the fabrics used in Stanbury's products are made overseas. The company is also an ESOP.
  3. I'd be happy to help lead you to various used/vintage drum corps uniforms. And we won't answer harshly at all! Pat Seidling Stanbury Uniforms
  4. In my initial posting (on my facebook) and emails to friends, I got the name of the tune wrong (hey, I'm entitled, heck I'm almost as old as Boo!) and regrettably forgot that the young lady from Bluecoat's snareline was there also. They cast current and former RCC students for this small band, and of course a bunch of those kids are also DCI players too (in this case, PacCrest, BD, Bluecoats and Mandarin vets/fmm's). The actual choice of uniform style and color came about 3 seasons ago when they did a short gym/pep band scene in which the Cheerios do a routine and the pep band joined in. The wardrobe manager had only a 4-day "heads up" that band uniforms were needed, and they HAD to be the same shade of red/white/black as their school gym logo, school colors and of course, to match the Cheerios outfits. As the Stanbury rep in California, I get quite a few calls for such needs from commercial, TV and film, and here too was called to help. With no time to custom-make anything, I found Redlands East Valley HS had the perfect colors. These are not actually Stanbury-made uniforms, but of a manufacturer now out of business (Sol Frank Co). It was a good fit, the Art Director also liked that they were a bit "less than modern" to fit their idea of what the fictional Wm McKinley HS from Lima, Ohio band program would be like. Once the first episode ran, we keep with these for the sake of all the above, PLUS addressing the concept of "continuity" -- thus we used them again for last January's Superbowl episode and this most recent shoot. The first 2 times we did this they cast USC students, this week's episode used RCC students. We did discuss simply using RCC's uniforms for this shoot, but their base color is orange (albeit a darker orange), and it took only about 5 seconds for the art director to say "No thanks, get me the red ones". The kids spent a long day rehearsing and fitting, then a longer day taping. In spite of few real looks on screen, they seemed to have a good time. The folks with Glee! are very cool people, they enjoy casting these students, and the fees they pay definitely support the bands that provide cast and costumes. It's a good thing for all involved. Gotta like a win-win, eh? Pat Seidling Stanbury Uniforms - California Blue Devils System Blue
  5. Thanks for the review! I'll add a few notes if I may: Pacific Crest has been doing this for a few years, and this year invited area Open Class corps, which was a cool gesture and a great opportunity for the corps to get a show under their belts before the season. Close to 1,000 in the stands, great stadium at Rowland HS, just east of LA, another cool summer evening in SoCal! Gold - Last few years the biggest of the many SoCal Open Class corps, and looks to be that way again. I counted 40 brass, but 4 weren't fully in the show yet. 13 guard, big pit and 8 snares, 5 tenor, 5 bass. Very very solid showing! They've moved from being somewhat sponsored by Hawthorne HS to being totally independent and now basing in the Laguna Hills area. Added some top-level teaching staff including drum guru Ike Jackson (drum line is World Class good) and Mark Irons, who's presence has really made the brass line sound great. They are taking the corps to the Denver show this year, first ever trip out of state. A real-deal Open Class corps here! Impulse was very solid as well. Well paced show, good visual presence and a very readable, smart drill. 29 brass, 13 guard, 10 pit with 7 snares, 4 tenors, 5 bass and 4 cymbals. Mature moving and a solid drum program, brass sounded big, if hampered by TQI issues. Velvet Knights put on a baseball show and used a big guard - more guard than brass I believe - to tell the story. 25 guard, 21 brass, 7 pit, 5 snares, 3 tenors, 5 bass. As the original reviewer noted, they are seemingly younger than the other 2 Open Class corps, and not quite in their league performance-wise. Brass sound is improved over last season. No uniforms yet on the guard or corps. Pacific Crest took a huge leap last season and this year moved it up a notch with their most mature and sophisticated show design to date. The first half of the show is good. Top 12 good. The brass line will surprise you and the drum line is solid. A full-size World Class corps (if a slightly small guard), 68 brass, 15 pit, 8 snares, 5 tenors, 5 bass, 5 cymbals, 28 guard. The Opener is exciting and very well performed. The Ballad is beautiful. Brass line is very very good. Tubas, 12, and all play - 10 vets and it shows! Listen for the beautiful tuba support at the end of the ballad. Battery is solid as well, some great snare exposure moments and they nailed them nicely. Jeff Lee wrote the pit book and the maturity in that alone has made a nice impact on the overall show design. The drill is really good. Steven Estudio is really coming of age here, he has a god team and has wisely used the consulting skills of DCI Hall of Fame designer Ralph Pace. Field coverage is big-time and some excellent "GE" moments. If they get the last 4 minutes of this show as impressive as the first 6 minutes, yeah, good stuff here. On a side note, and full disclosure, my wife and I are pretty big PC homers, we are donors and have housed an out-of-country member. For good reason, as PacCrest is a class act. (And the company i work for - Stanbury Uniforms - provides Pacific Crest with their uniform needs.) I have yet to meet a SoCal band director or college music educator who doesn't say great things about the corps. More importantly, I meet many, many parents who have or have had their children in PC and all say great things about the quality of care and teaching provided. They have quietly morphed into essentially a full-time World Class corps, while still maintaining a vast majority of SoCal based members and SoCal based staff. Their teaching team is mostly degreed music educators (in fact, 10 have Masters and/or DMA's!). Recent steps in maturing the program design are paying off, and, aside from not hitting tour until 2 weeks later than most corps, they have done daily rehearsals since early June, which really shows. Thanks to PC for putting this event on, thanks also to Gold, Impulse and VK for pushing their time-lines to show up with shows far more complete than we in the stands expected....and done really well! SoCal schools go late into June (even the college students are hard-pressed to do corps in June, as the UC system goes late in June also); it ain't easy getting a show on the road out here! Pat Seidling
  6. Ed was a great guy. Wonderful sense of humor and a real and true "Drum Corps Nut"! I remember reading his columns in DCW back in the 70's....always full of interesting trivia and great humor - he'd do anything for PIZZA! - written in the style of Larry King's old columns. Or did Larry steal from Ed?! Meeting Ed and then becoming a friend and spending time on tours together was a great pleasure. And no doubt, Lynn is just as cool as Ed. Ever know one of those guys that whenever you see them they always greet you with a joke or at least a good laugh? That was Ed. You'd walk a mile around a stadium just to find Ed and get your daily "re-charge"! Ed, you made drum corps fun. Rest in peace, friend. I bet there is some pretty great pizza up there. Pat Seidling
  7. Well written and heart-felt, thank you for sharing. Bob Lendman is on the ballot of nominees for this year's voting to the DCI Hall of Fame. His nomination and letters of support were submitted before the motorcycle accident happened. Thank you again for sharing an insight to what is a little known - but very important - chapter in Blue Stars (and DCI) history. I know Bob was very proud of that season, and seems he had a blast too, based on the stories he would tell, all with a twinkle in his eye! Pat Seidling, Blue Star fan and supporter since 1973 Bob Lendman fan and friend since 1978 former Phantom Regiment Director 2001-2006
  8. Wonderful letter about Bob.

Before Bob's accident he was nominated to the DCI Hall of Fame. I was honored to be asked to write a letter of support. His name remains on the list of 10 to be voted on (by the current HoF and the DCI BoD)

I'd be happy to share letter with you, would you send me your email? Thanks!

Pat Seidling, Phantom Reg director 2001-2006<...>

  9. You are incorrect about Paul's motivation for going to SCV.

Further, I was the corps director upon Paul's hire at Phantom and was on the MCM mgt team during Shane's first years as a staffer for Music City. Both have been given/taken/created wonderful opportunites for themselves, will be excellent teachers for these young percussionists and an asset to their corps. Pat Seidling

  10. Right on, Mark! Looking forward to seeing you and the Blue Saints in the TCF. And....3 of the 5 "Blue" corps are "Stanbury corps" too! Go Blue Saints, Bluecoats and Blue Stars.
  11. John Hart was one of those lost in the Towers that day. John was a member of the Eau Claire (Wi) Sundowner Kadets (1974-1975) and the Eau Claire Sundowners (1976 and 1977). Soprano bugle player. He left a wife, children and family. He was a great kid and a friend to all of us in that very tight-knit home-town drum corps. Patrick Seidling Eau Claire Sundowners 1973-1981
  12. Dear soccerguy315, My heart is sad for you. Create peace, Pat Seidling Blue Devils C corps Dad
  13. Garry's right on with this - the population base of SoCal calls for even more corps, really. Wisconsin in 1994 had just under 4 million people and 4 Open Class corps within 150 miles of each other: Pioneer Capitolaires Blue Stars Americanos Add the Phantom Regiment Cadets just 30 miles south of Wisconsin, and there are 5 Open Class corps in a population base 1/4 of SoCal. One small step west and you can add Colt Cadets for 6. Today, SoCal has about 20 million people within a similar footprint as south central Wis/northern Ill/far-east Iowa and has 4 operational Open Class corps: Impulse Gold City Sound Velvet Knights There's room for more corps in SoCal. And for a few more In-n-Outs too! :)
  14. I posted a review of Pacific Crest's Sneak Peak Show (Sat eve, June 12)in the "review" section.
  15. Lot's of "Family Day/Dress Rehearsal" shows starting this week, and my wife and I were at Pacific Crest's "Sneak Peak 2010" show at Irvine HS in Irvine, Ca last evening (Sat, June 12). We are boosters of the corps, hosted an international member last year, and my employer (Stanbury Uniforms) is a partner with Pacific Crest. That, plus we consider ourselves friends of many of the folks there, including director/founder Stuart Pompel, so I guess we are "homers", of sorts. That said, Pacific Crest is a very well managed organization and always does things with class, and no less this event. They ask for a $15 donation at the door, and a very well-done Tex-Mex meal is part of the event, plus of course, souvenirs are for sale. The corps lets everyone know at every turn that they appreciate that you attended the event, and that your support really helps the corps. It's a very laid-back, classy affair that attracts nearly 1,000 parents, alumni, friends and drum corps nuts. We got to chat with our good friend Gene Monterastelli (now a PC staffer/advisor), long-time SoCal drum corps personality Charlie Groh, DCP guy and drum corps nut extra-ordinaire John Donovan, Eddie Martin (Yamato director and PC mgt team member) and a good number of SoCal band directors, plus a few parents we know from our years in corps. PC does a great job of engaging the support of SoCal bands, both college and HS. They even gave the audience a hand-out of who's in the corps and lists from what cities, schools and colleges they come from. Well-done. The corps right now has 133 members, looking for a snare, tuba and perhaps a guard. Otherwise (as they have been for many years now) they are in essence "full". Every member but 1 is from California, by the way. They do not have their guard costumes done yet, and their new set of Dynasty drums won't arrive until next week. They do have all their corps uniforms in and fitted - same look as last season. By the way, their new 53-foot equipment trailer is done and being used. It's very nice; bought and rigged out all by booster contributions. Up until this weekend they have only done weekend rehearsals/camps - they start "everydays" this week. That said, we were impressed that they marched 3 of the 4 tunes and played the whole show. Again, everydays haven't started yet, and 3/4 of the show is on the field. I'm impressed. Anyway, they feel they are a good bit ahead of last season at this time, and they have added much more rehearsal time between now and tour than they have done in past years, so they feel good about having a show come out of the gate in solid shape. The show is called "Maze" and is just that...a maze concept. Gordon Henderson (SCV and Cavie fame and UCLA band director) has had a big hand in developing the show this season, and the show is paced much faster than recent offerings (Gordon also had a big hand in developing Troopers programming maturity from 2007-2009). We really liked "Ashalt Cocktail" and the ballad as well. The ballad is actually quite emotional already. The closer too has a lot of potential. I think the opening has some deveolpment work still in progress, and the guard is not fully incorporated yet...again, they start "all days" this week. They have a much larger guard than the past few years and Angela Tousley is back and put together a solid guard and staff, I heard nothing but praise for the guard members and guard staff. The drum line has some serious notes this year and play with inspiring aggressiveness. Caption head Matt Altmire and his team have created a nice drum program over that past year or two (Matt was a stand-out player in SCV in the early 90's), their drum scores last summer were knocking on top 12, and I think this season will be as successful. The brass line is at 69 members, looking for #70 (a tuba spot). They have a nice rich sound and though they say the trumpets are the most experienced section this year, I was very impressed with the low brass blend and balance. They did a full field run of the show and then arced up and did the full music book again. Again, we really liked the pacing of the show and there are some great "GE" moments already. The drill is being done by PC and Cavalier alum Steven Estudillo, and though young, is doing a great job. He's spending a lot of time with the corps and the coordination really is noticable. Pacific Crest has been a great ambassador for the activity in SoCal since 1993 and a solid addition to DCI since they began touring in 2003. Spending a cool, dry southern California evening with friends old and new, seeing a great corps with much promise start its season and watching a whole lot of wonderful young people having the time of their lives sure is a nice way to spend a Saturday night. Thanks, Pacific Crest, and here's to a wonderful 2010! We'll be at SCV and BD's Family Day next weekend (we're big fans of both corps, and most importantly, our son is a tuba player in the Blue Devils C corps!!) Probably no time to send a review, but we look forward to seeing friends and the corps. Patrick and Tamee Seidling Santa Clarita, Ca
