  1. thanks for posting the scores. I liked SCVC's sound, BDB has a ways to go still... C Core was interesting with 4 solos, and the circus theme. And thanks, big time, for Revolution coming to Ca... again!
  2. Cadets: I think I saw the 2011 champion tonight. Hard to judge this without seeing the cavies at the same time and show. Unless you believe in East Coast Inflation.
  3. Fair enough. Still like the early competition. and your comments on lineup are quite fair.
  4. Just to give some credit where it is due. The top 8 idea, especially early in the season, is brilliant. Any long streak will be even more difficult to achieve, and seeing the top corps progress against the best competition should make for an interesting summer. I will openly admit that I am not a large fan of a lot of DCI decisions, but this one looks to be a winner. BTW, Congrats to Crown and Cavies on their wins.
  5. Just quoted your middle statement. I agree with this completely. Performing head to head will stimulate competition. And I doubt that I hear as much about the west coast whatever with this format.
  6. Alex, Not really. The post is made to highlight the differences with other judged activities, and with Drum Corp. I doubt seriously that the lack of fans has anything to do with judging or voting, but rather more participating and the fact that Drum Corp Music will never make a top 10 music chart. As for finding out what "fans" think, my guess is that is very highly subjective, and quite predictable. Seems more like a way to stir up controversy and, therefore, interest. And, if applied to other judged activities, it would not necessarily improve them. IE, Diving, Ice Skating, Ice Dancing, Ballroom Dancing... Seems like they want to tap into American Idol or "so you think you can dance." Either way, fans make lousy judges and the general public make even worse judges. MW
  7. Pretty early for anything but pure speculation... But, my guess is that any of the top echelon could win. If I had to bet, I would bet on the cavies. Frankly, I don't have a problem with a dominate team or person in sports or in Drum Corp. Before Tiger's problems, he was good for golf. I would say the same for the LA Lakers... And without the soviet union hockey team, we would not have had the miracle on ice. But, dominance does not last forever, and that is the fun of a winning streak...
  8. Anyone actually like this? Frankly, I think that it is ridiculous. What if we voted on olympic skating or gymnastics? Waiting for results is equally bad. Of course, this is my personal opinion.
  9. I think it had more to do with judging. BDB won the show the day before by 0.9. SCVC went up 2.1 in a single day with a fair amount of travel between. Then SCVC dropped 2 points on the next show a week or so later. But, that is one reason that we can argue about drum corp.
  10. so, where are you marching this year? I was thinking about renegades, but I just don't have the time... BTW, Best of luck!!! You will be living the dream again and I am envious.
  11. agreed. The competition really makes this real. We would be limited to die hards fans and it would end up like going to a concert of a not so popular group.
  12. This recreational whine will never end. Basically, the shows are not as crowd pleasing, the designers design shows to try to win, etc... If we were talking about any sport, there would be no problem. But designing a show to win is EVIL on this board and in this activity. Visual matters a lot due to the sheets, just like most winning football teams pass and play defense. Bottom line, if you want to make a real difference, join a corp and start either teaching or designing. But, it is so much easier to post remarks on a board. I tend to agree with most of the comments here about changing the judging if you want to change the activity.
  13. well stated. The only real issue that I see is how a OC Corp can plan its return trip...
  14. I like that they are at least trying to change things and improve them. Good For DCI management. As one that has been critical of them in the past, I definitely want to be on record as commending the effort and wishing for the best.
  15. Not too worried about political correctness here... Have to agree with you.
  16. Hi Dave., You are right. Then create a minimum age to make room for younger marchers in Open. (18 comes to mind), At any rate, I am against raising the age in Open without doing the same in World.
  17. that area is about 900 + miles, From Concord to San Diego is about 500. Concord, home of BD, BDB, and BDC, to Hawthorne, home of gold is about 380. Tip of CA to tip of ca does not really contain much in the north... Just for comparison.
  18. Interesting. BDB definitely has tryouts. And not everyone makes the corp. If spots are not a problem, then perhaps the lure of the OC corps is the problem. Or perhaps the lure of other activities. But, even if you are right, I would not be in favor of raising the age of OC. Instead, raise the age of WC, and raise the minimum age of WC as well.
  19. Could be, we are talking about a 350 mile stretch, The top of the state above Concord does not have a corp. Not sure about San Diego.
  20. Actually Freelancers. They did an Encore this year in SoCal. Not marching yet. Got me there.
  21. haven't heard it called that before, but I believe that you are likely right. Besides that, oakland? I must have been hallucinating.
  22. Don't forget, there is the Coliseum and Candlestick. And Santa Clara just approved building a new stadium for the 49ers.. That stadium is all of 3 miles from SCV's headquarters! Or, How about we do qtrs in Standford, semis in Candlestick, and finals in the coliseum, or something like that. Be harder on the souvi trucks, but we do more traveling on that in June, and we could pull from locals all over the bay area... And all of these venues are within 30 miles or so of each other. I am certain that SoCal has something similar to offer. The other side, is that there can be 7 years of notice!
