  1. ROTFLMBO, that was the funniest thing I've ever seen!!! And by far, the funniest of all the Hitler sub-title videos. Great job! But like Cadets, you NEED AN ENDING. After that hilarious video, you can't just end it with "you can go now." How about at the end "over my dead body will BDA get a three-peat....you can send in Dave Gibbs and George Hopkins now..."
  2. I like your award to Spirit. Do they also get the award for Most Improved? At the very least, they should get the award for Exceeding EVERYBODY'S Expectations (members, staff and parents excepted, of course. ) +++ And I would like to add my congrats to Cadets as well. I like the fact that they beat the two-time DEFENDING champions who didn't exactly mail it in and give their title away. Blue Devils were fantastic and would have been a worthy champion this year in their own right. It took a phenomenal show AND performance to wrest the crown away.
  3. I'm with Mike (and Jason, directly upstream), this is the sort of thread you respond to with a smile on your face. And in that spirit, I'd like to play. +++ Madison Scouts should have won based solely on their closer. My wife told me there were WORDS to Empire State of Mind, so I found it on That Site Which Shall Not Be NamedYOUTUBE. The Scouts arrangement blows the original completely out of the water. No wonder they didn't want Scouts to have the rights to this song, they OWN it! Unofficial Thread Drift: Could ANY corps, BD, Cavies, Cadets, Crown have won the Championships playing that song? If not, there is something seriously wrong with the rules. The crowd EXPLODED to their feet with a minute left. Isn't that what a championship corps is supposed to do to a crowd?
  4. That's funny, because I remember 10 guard. I have no idea why I think it's that number, it's just kinda sorta what I remember. And I think they marched 90 horns, not very loud ones at that.
  5. That's what I was getting at. It's from my memory of those days, so correct me if I'm wrong. Florida Wave was a nice little corps, wearing bright orange, and had short sleeves. I also seem to remember when they left the field, they Waved. Yeah, it was hokey, but cute, it made you smile.
  6. Remember the short sleeves? They were waaaaay ahead of their time, weren't they Scouts, and Crown?
  7. After you, my friend. You know ten times more about this stuff than I do, any day.
  8. Wow, I'm glad you were talking about DRUM CORPS! By the initial thread title, I thought you might be talking about your wife (or she about you).
  9. The Academy, opening trumpet solo. (piccolo trumpet?)
  10. And what drum corps did Reliable Rondo start? I'd give you a hint, but then the results would have to be waved off. (I defer to the master of swordmanship Mr. 84BD Sop for the answer, and the next question)
  11. And there are rings after DCI, if you march DCA. But at this juncture, injecting a little humor is good medicine.
  12. I never marched drum corps, and I have a curious question; how do you have 3 rings if your last year was '73? This is a curious question and not a challenge, so if I've asked too personal a question in the middle of these heated discussion, please forgive, and feel free to ignore. It won't hurt my feelings a bit. ++ About the heated discussions: I have so much respect for opinions on all SCV sides (not the outsiders), and I almost feel embarrassed looking in on what is very much a family discussion. I think the discussion is healthy, even though emotions run high. SCV was the first corps I fell in love with in 1981, and my love for them continues, no matter what numbers the judges give them, no matter what place they finish in. I'll stop here before I embarrass myself any more intruding into a discussion not my place to intrude on.
  13. I was in Miami in 1983 for Cadets title #1. At about 2:00 in the morning and for the last time, they performed their entire show again. But instead of the highly polished professional version with no mistakes, the performers put back in all the high notes and absolutely cut loose with a volume of sound and excitement never seen before. In the 30 years I've been watching drum corps, that single show, and it was an encore, might have been the best performance I've ever seen. I wish I could have been there to see #10. It sounds like that encore might have set the standard for the new "best show ever."
  14. Cadets. Nothing beats their design, maybe all-time.
  15. I like the interesting, quick stats. It took me a minute to read 'em, it probably took you a little longer than that to research them. Thanks.
  16. For those of us who weren't there, what was the encore?
  17. Yeah, I was thinking about that as well. When the Superbowl is played live, I'm thinking that makes TV, doesn't it? Being on TV doesn't keep people from attending the live event. Shouldn't there be some TV advertising revenue there someplace, for somebody?
  18. I've been watching the shows on FN most of the day. I can tell you that at the end of the day, Blue Devils may be the most listened to music on the Ipod. And have you really listened to them? When BD is not busy marching easy drill and such (please note sarcasm), man, those baris/euphs absolutely blow the doors off the place! NOBODY else in drum corps sounds like the Blue Devils!
  19. This is West Virginia. We spew pop, not poop, thank you very much. We have standards. +++ So, why does a West Virginian have a tooth brush? To brush his tooth. What's a West Virginia virgin? A ten year-old girl who can run faster than her brother. I think I'll stop there...
  20. LOL! Thanks to you I just spewed all my pop! You owe me a new monitor!
  21. Due to music licensing agreements, Cadets discover the horns are not allowed to play any of the Tichelli music out loud, so the drums have to play while the horn line marches the entire show with instruments in the carry position. Cadets lose to BD by a half point, who ironically can play, but can't march...
  22. In an attempt to gain a competitive edge, George Hopkins re-reads the rule on electronics, discovers a little-known rider that declares that "no persons over the age of 16 can march World Class," and the entire top 12 is suddenly eliminated. That means PIONEER wins it's first ever DCI Championship!
  23. I can that you and I are not going to get into a bar room brawl over drum corps anytime soon! I just clicked on a random place on the timeline, and Boston's closer of 1812 popped up. That was a pretty good place to start.
