  2. Sometimes you have to speak softly and carry a big stick. Or you can scream and start poking with said stick. Either way, I think I've made my point clear. I'm not all for the lovey-dovey "let's hold hands" stuff, but this is a place to talk about drum corps. The valus, the traditions, the past, present, and future. It's a shame to forget what drum corps is about because we have our heads so far up our you-know-whats fighting about who knows more. This isn't a pissing contest, it's drum corps.
  3. My point exactly, just more elegantly put. This is a democracy last time I checked.
  4. Stu, you are one of my favorite "Dinos". I agree with everything in that post, including the soundboard issue. And it has nothing to do with the technology, just the influence of score.
  5. In 2010, I had the honor of sharing the field with Les Stentors in Wisconsin. What a classy group of kids. Best of luck next season!
  6. I think it is ludicrous to assume drum corps is dead. Even before the birth of DCI, drum corps have been changing. That does not mean it is dead.
  7. Yes I do, in fact '78 Vanguard is one of my favorites. And yes I do respect the traditions and history of what came before.
  8. This thread is now turning too silly, can we get on topic now?
  9. ) I'm sure I will find something to gripe about, but (not to sound like a narcissist) I know for a fact that I will more subjective than a lot of people on here. I guess it comes with the territory of being a Sociologist/Psychologist, but that is how I always view things, from both sides of the spectrum.
  10. I'm all about the witty stuff here, so it doesn't have to be all serious so long as my point is actually made. :)
  11. I'd have to disagree to you saying that it's pulled as a rebuttal by the young crowd, because since I've been observing (2005 that I started, 2007 when I decided to open an account) the forum, both sides pull the card about even.
  12. i think you should read the new topic I just posted. I have done a lot of studying and reading on the history of drum corps. I understand the traditions and values of drum corps. And yes, there should be an American flag with each corps. Does the height of the flag matter? No. Should the Canadian flag (or whatever country the corps is from) be feature more prominently? I think so. It's their country, so why not. I am may be twenty-one, but as I stated, I know a lot about drum corps, and I respect it. However, since we are in a new age, we have to accept the new additions to tradition. It's code, not law, therefore there shouldn't be a big hullaballoo about it.
  13. Three words- Tradition, tradition, tradition.
  14. Understood, and I do agree with you. My point I guess, is that sometimes there is too much emphasis on minute things like the flags, when the last time I checked, this forum was about Drum Corps. The flag issue is moot in my opinion.
  15. This whole Dinos vs. New Kids dilema is driving me insane.

It's not hard to see it from both sides.

Depends on what you mean by "right" and "always". :P

  16. This is a trend that I'm starting to see more and more on here, and it's driving me insane, therefore being the person I am, I feel compelled to bring it up- Why is that we have to push this whole "You're a young kid, you don't know ####" and "You're too old to understand the new era" bull####????? Last time I checked, we were unified by the same thing, the love for drum corps. Not about age, race, religion, blah blah blah. There is always something to #### and moan about, I understand that, however, every topic eventually dwindles down to Dinos vs. the young ones. Can't we just realize that the Dinos have tradition and values of the old corps, and that the new kids represent the new era, and leave it at that? Maybe we wouldn't have all this "Drum Corps is dead" BS if we were actually discussing the issues instead of complaining about how the young kids "just don't get it" and how the dinos "just don't understand the new stuff". "New Kids"- Tradition is a major part of drum corps, respect it. "Dinos"- Believe it or not, a lot of us are knowledgeable. Just because we weren't there in the 70's, doesn't mean we don't understand the history behind drum corps international. End Rant
  17. I agree to a certain extent about honoring the flag. But remember that this country (and the flag) represents freedom. As much as it may SEEM like a bad thing, it doesn't necessarily mean that it is such. And remember, the Canadian flag represents just as much to them as our flag does to us, under that assumption, since they are from Canada, they should be allowed to represent their flag in any manner. It's not like they were trying to give a huge "$%(^ YOU" to the USA, it was them representing their corps. Stu, I'm not calling you out, (I think talking with you in a civil manner actually restores some faith in this forum) but tradition of the flag, just like other traditions, have to change to fit the new era. If I seem off base, please tell me.
  18. Stu, you're not the only one in this thread. I'm talking in general, this forum tends to follow the trend of "this is the tradition, and any other way is WRONG". Call it the straw that broke the camel's back, but I am starting to absolutely hate coming to this forum. There used to be threads that I could enjoy because it was all about drum corps, but now you can't even get on lolcorps without someone saying they're offended by the dumbest thing.
  19. Correct me if I'm wrong (because I didn't read the whole thread) but..... We get mad at people for disrespecting our flag, but we constantly berate other countries. This sounds hypocritical for me. Secondly, this is a free country, right? If they do not have a flag, that should be their choice, for whatever reason. Call me rude, communistic, or whatever, but I find it highly irritating that we have this false bravado that we're the best country out there. If you were in another country, I believe you would want to represent your country and flag no matter where you were. In my opinion this may be, perhaps, the most immature thread on here. It's drum corps international, not drum corps 'MERICUH and no one else. C'mon you guys.
  20. *cough, cough* West coast domination anyone?
  21. Glad to see that there's a forum less educated than this one. Anyway, I've been listening to ESOM non stop for the last hour. It is amazing, and I get goosebumps every time. 'nuff said.
