Perhaps a happy medium might be having finals closer to the west coast, but not all the way ON the coast. How about Phoenix? The city was able to host the super bowl just fine, which involved a lot more people than DCI Finals would bring in (a shame, i know). Plus, the University of Phoenix stadium is absolutely glorious...retractable roof...the pristine grass slides outside of the actual stadium so it gets sun during the day and then slides back in at night. I believe that DCI couldnt get the Phoenix regional in 07 at this stadium, so perhaps that is why this venue hasnt been considered.

Well the truth of the matter is that they are darker. They've been riding the back of the bus and drinking out of different water fountains for years. I wish I could be more optimistic about this changing soon, but we just haven't seen the turnouts at the protests lately.

Hey does anyone remember that dci advertisement/commercial from a couple years back...it was a woman speaking with a (british?) accent making corny play-on-words with all the names of the corps. "devils in the west" "some are on the vanguard of the activity" etc. Anyone know where I could find this again?

I would recommend Asics supplemented with Dr. Scholls' inserts. I went through half of all-days without the inserts and my feet would start to hurt by the end of a 13 hour day (as is to be expected). I got the Dr. Scholls' inserts and my feet felt great the next day.

According to BoD voting, there should be at least 7 corps that do not utilize electronics (assuming corps directors do not change). So, my concern is this: will these corps be eventually "forced" to use electronics in order to keep up competitively (see: GE) with the corps that do? I know one response might be "well, it is a corps' own fault if they lose a competitive advantage by not using all equipment available to them." Of course, for many corps (dare I say, MOST corps outside of the most "elite" world class units) may not have the financial capabilities to purchase the elecronics equipment necessary for competition in modern drum and bugle corps. One thing I am certainly NOT suggesting is a sort of drum corps socialism -- DCI providing electronics equipment to the corps that request it and/or limiing the amoun of electronics equipment a corps may use in order to to "level the playing field." I'm not against the use of electronics, but this particular implication is at the top of my list of concerns.

Did you read my original post? I was saying that I was impressed with the technicality of their opener alone IN COMPARISON to other corps' entire shows. So yes, I do listen to other corps. What else would I listen to at the gym?

That's sweet...I personally think it is a really impressive technique from a brass perspective. There are a lot more intricacies to it than some people realize.
