  1. Trevor is right. I think we have 3 members of the hornline under 20, 2 of them almost 20. Betsy and I just ran the numbers on the 2007 Baritone line and our average age is 38 1/4. 3 in mid 20s, 6 in 30s (mostly late 30s), 6 in 40s, and one in 50s. AND there's not a single Renegade rookie in the line.
  2. As we all know, DCI Championships will be at the new Lucas Oil Stadium for the next 10 years. Let's let people know that DCI has a stake in this new facility by purchasing a paver brick here. Pics of the new stadium can be found here. Looks like the stands are close enough to actually hear the corps, unlike the Rose Bowl. Get your tix for the Inaugural Event of the new stadium: The 2008 DCI World Championships.
  3. It's kind of depressing that there are 13 responses to this thread and over 700 to the Cadets "boo" thread. Thanks for drawing attention to the positive. My input: -Loved the first 3 minutes of Madison. Musically and visually stunning! Thanks guys. Always one of my favorites. -The first Crown show I've ever liked. -Cadets hornline was amazing. -Bluecoats total package. The highlight of 2007 for me. -Spirit staying on pace for finals. -Chills in the last 2 minutes of Troopers show. Welcome back. Glad to have you, always. -Daphnis et Chloe faithfully executed by SCV. -BONES! Come on people. There was so much more to last night than re-painting the hashes. Tell the members what you really liked and appreciated about their efforts this summer. Keep this thread active enough that when the members get home, this thread will be on the first page of this forum and the 5 "booing/hashes/Hopkins/whatever" threads will be old news.
  4. I'm sorry the line painting cart didn't run over their microphone cables.
  5. Like where we used to have All-Days in the mid 1980s (I think it was called Lakewood). I can still see Mike Elam and others tearing off after a couple of local kids who tried to grab some member backpacks out of the stands during a run-through. Then there was the time when some thugs smashed Randy's car window and took his money and music. Chaos abound.
  6. Dave, I agree with you. However, speaking as a person who teaches high school, I can tell you that unless you are in Boy or Girl Scouts or some sort of service organization with a socially responsible leader, there's a good chance that you may not ever be made aware of flag protocol. I don't think it's really addressed that much anymore. Sorry to say. I think also the current administration's overwhelming un-popularity has engendered some confusing feelings, i.e. "If I behave in a 'patriotic' manner, I feel like I'm supporting the George W. machine. Not taking part in displays of conventional patriotism is my protest" It's unfortunate, but true. Can you see how some people might think that way? Just a thought. Sorry to get this thread WAY off topic. Great review by the way!
  7. Why should they not have to be educated? I understand this is a niche activity, but in a day and age when we are trying to make it more mainstream and accessible, wouldn't it make sense to take a few seconds to give those who are relatively new to drum corps a sense of the history and tradition associated with the activity. You can't expect anybody to just "know" etiquette. It is a learned behavior. Chances are, the Joe Popcorns in the stands aren't spending a few hours a day on DCP to learn what to expect at a show. If they are made to feel welcome and invited, they are more likely to return. Conversely, if the stands are full of people looking down their band/corps geek (That's the perception, folks. Sorry to break it to you.) noses at them for every audience faux pas they unwittingly commit, who can blame them for staying away. Keep that up and you have more shows like Sunnyvale where the stands are less than a third full. Just my 2 cents.
  8. I'm sure that for the most part, the disrespect was not intended. I suspect that what needs to happen is a little bit of educating the audience, something the announcer should do early on and over the course of the evening. Then again, with the new announcing regulations, I'm not sure how much liberty the announcers have anymore to do PSA's of that type.
  9. Anybody see Academy in rehearsal today? Got any pre-show scoops or reviews?
  10. I've been waiting for somebody to play Daphnis et Chloe for 15 years. For those not familiar with the work, they are aptly doing it justice. Good job and good luck SCV. Do yourself a favor and pick up the original source music. There's so much more to Ravel than Bolero.
  11. Edited for accuracy.....but thanks, Rich! Edited for correct punctuation type...
  12. Their wings are much larger and fuller than the 80s wings. Very nice touch.
  13. What a great idea. Hope you don't mind if I steal the idea for my band. Too bad if you do, cause I'm doing it anyway.
  14. I've searched for the thread that says who's playing what, but I can't find it. Some help?
  15. It was fabulous having the Rentagades with us this weekend. You guys definitely brought a good amount of party with you and melded perfectly with the way of the Renegades. Thanks again for coming out. We'll see everybody again at the Clarion in Rochester!
  16. Brass Just testing to see if it would allow those letters in that order if preceded by "br". I guess it will. Now let's try a few more: Br######## Brasswipe Brassmuncher Brassface Brassfarger Brasslicker
  17. We could use a couple more baritone players. This is a great show and and I am making it my personal mission to make the 07 Renegades Baritone line the hands-down best line on any field this year. If you ever wanted to be a part of something truly incredible, Renegades 2007 is your chance. Get on board now before it's too late and you're looking at us from the stands through tear-filled eyes, cursing yourself for not making the commitment to be great. I mean seriously, if you screw this one up, there's a pretty strong chance that your life will only get worse from here on out. The opportunity for success is presenting itself to you in the form of a long black coat and sleek shades B) Embrace the evil!
  18. From a former Nashvillian, congratulations on a successful open house. Look forward to great things from you this year.
  19. Did I hear somewhere that they are revising the uniform also. Anybody have a sketch?
  20. Not to mention the fact that moves like this keep the top 12 from all looking and sounding alike.
  21. I am a teacher and I'm wondering if there is a university that offers Continuing Ed credits for marching. Does anyone know of one? If not, how many teachers are out there who would be interested in getting some credit for marching to help advance you on the pay scale? If there are enough, I will pursue setting it up with a U in California. Please note, I am not talking about undergraduate credit. I know there are a few schools that already doing that.
