  1. Looks like corps are starting to sprout up in Florida...first Project Arts and now the Sun Devils! Good luck to both, its nice to see activity in Florida again.
  2. Great things are happening at Teal, maybe about a month back I had the privaledge of hearing them at Middleburg highschool, and they sounded GREAT! I was surprised, I would look for a very close race between Teal and Surf. Wish I knew more about the Spartans.
  3. This is based soley on last year, Sops- The Cadets Mello- Phantom Regiment Bari/Euphs- The Cadets Contras- Bluecoats This year I was very surprised with Phantoms Alto line, they always have a great hornline all around, but their Mellos really stood out this year. Usually Cadets seem to always get my vote for best alto line...but Phantom's mellos really threw down this year.
  4. Hahaha! I seriously just laughed out loud. Anyways, do I think there will be any similarities? No, not at all...they are both races yes, but it seems the Blue Stars will be focusing on the teamwork and determination aspect rather then the horse theme. Im not entirely sure if Im sold on this show idea, but we'll have to see when this summer rolls around, hopefully the Blue Stars can keep on moving up.
  5. Some very interesting things mentioned in your post, but I would have to say I do not think BD is as balanced as you make them out to be. They are a phenomenal corps, with at times a great sound, but I just have a hard time believing that their low brass is more prominent then the Cadets and Cavaliers...however I do agree with your assessment of the Cadets upper brass. I think that of all the corps, the Cadets have had the most technical and consistent alto line I have ever heard. The things that mello line can play are beastly. Also, Carolina Crown has an AMAZING sound, all around. Their brass line from 2007 had to produce some of the finest sounds I've ever heard on a field.
  6. Cadets version of Les Mis was WONDERFUL! A show that in my book placed a little lower then I thought it should have. But while it is a great show on all accounts, I dont believe it would contend for a championship. Judges these days seem to want something new, something that catches their eye. Not something that has been done to death.
  7. Wow....only 3 years to pick from...*sigh* I would have to say. 1. SCV 2006 2. Phantom 2006 3. Carolina 2007 4. SCV 2007 5. Bluecoats 2007 6. BD 2006 ( only because I dont remember hardly any of the drill. ) I dont know....would have liked to see some Cadets 97 or 99 again....2005 - 07 have just not been my favorite...ah well.
  8. One of the first soloists that comes to mind is ( dont know his/her's name) the Mellophone soloist from the Cadets 1985 Make Our Garden Grow. Beautiful.
  9. If you wanted to go with just shear entertainment, you would HAVE to include 1992 Velvet Knights...hilarious!
  10. I would have to agree! Also, 97, 98, and 99 Cadets all had BEAUTIFUL ballads, with 99 being, imho, one of the greatest ballads of all time. When the Cadets do a ballad, they do it brilliantly.
  11. Generally, The Cadets have had a VERY consistent sound over the years. That brass line in Allentown is brilliant, Gino is a genius, and a godsend. However, I voted based on 2007...and that would go to Crown...I have never heard a corps produce THAT kid of a sound on a field before...simply amazing  , I cant wait to hear what they put out in the next couple of years.
  12. 97 and 98 SCV seemed like the long awaited "return" of SCV (atleast for me) after the lack luster early 90's. from 96 on, each year just kept getting progressively better, and ended in an excellent 99 victory! ( shared of course by the Blue Devils.)
  13. Any ideas as to what this new "non ticheli" piece is? And while their decision to make Vesuvias a 4 1/2 minute closer is cool, I was really looking forward to hearing Apollo Unleashed on the field...
  14. I love how we get to hear the Rockford College Fight Song, but no snippets of Spartacus. ( other then that guy humming it of course.)
  15. 84 Cadets, talk about entertaining! One of my favorite ballads of the 80's was Make Our Garden Grow by the 1985 Garfield Cadets. 92 Cadets did it for me, To Tame the Perilous Skies was hot, even though it was a quirky arrangement at times. That mello line from Star 93 is LEGENDARY in my book, as well as that whole show...and no list is complete with one of the most satisfying, entertaining shows of life...95 Madison Scouts, El Toro was insane, Concierto Arjanuez was BEAUTIFUL, and Malaga was intense...what more could you ask for from a drum corps show?
  16. Very cool intro, really caught my interest! However I have to agree with the comment about "modulation for modulations sake"....I dont really care for most of Jupiter, it really turned me off...but I cant wait to hear this show when its completed and played by the actual corps, I'll save my final judgement for then.
  17. 97 Cadets Philip Sparke show was brilliant, and had a beautiful ballad! It was a crazy technical program and definitely gave BD's As Time Goes By a run for its money...too bad BD was amazingly clean...97 Cadets remains one of my favorite shows of all time.
  18. I had the priveledge of hearing Teal Sound a week or two ago, and they sounded absolutely amazing... I was actually quite shocked, they knocked me off my feet...some great things happening there. We'll just have to wait for this season to start to see where everyone sits...but I think Teal has a real genuine shot at Gold this year...good luck!
  19. Narration aside, looks like you missed a great visual performance accompanied by one heck of a brass line while you were waiting for that hot dog...
  20. Well Hopkins entry says that there will be LIMITED use of narration...perhaps this time around they will find less words to voice what needs to be said...furthermore, maybe they will be more creative in how they work narration into the show, cant wait to see another great product from the Cadets.
  21. Im sorry, but I just dont see the Cadets dropping to 9th place...they havent placed that low since 1980! There are just too many people and too much invested in that program to see it drop even below 5th place for right now. Furthermore, while I think Crossmen will improve this year, I dont see them grabbing 8th place....or beating that brilliant brass line the Cadets are expanding on right now.
  22. wow...what a brass line.....for only having this for ONE day its pretty beastly. The sopranos need cleaned up a bit ( especially at the end) and the contras are a bit dirty in the lower register....but ####, this has to be one of the cleanest lines for this early on in the game. Cant wait to see/hear it in August!
