  1. legacy from texas is also competing :) and of course mansfield...
  2. i couldnt agree more. i havent gotten to see desoto yet....but americas, and friendswood are good. mansfield had a couple of rough runs this weekend but you havent seen the end of us yet. desoto got out today with a 89.something with america and friendswood following. mansfield got a 86.6 i think with spring following right behind. finals seemed really high today. mansfield gained 3 points and desoto gained almost 4.
  3. ars nova open is about life, and going through it, or at least i think so. at the end they die and the new ending is great... ars nova a is atlantis. those choices for scholastic a make a lot of sense. several of them have never gone to dayton either, so that should be interesting.
  4. ars nova open is doing amazing this year. i love the new ending and they are going to be HOT at dayton. ars nova a is doing pretty well too. anything about scholastic a guards? we get a lot of stuff on open and world, but there are several really good A's too.
  5. what is who going to do? or was it rehtorical? my heads' not screwed on quite right today....
  6. yup. that would the signs soundtrack. the masfield varsity SA guard uses it too. we have the main soundtrack from signs and also the bird and the worm by the viamin string quartet.
  7. so i don't know anything about most of the scholastic A groups in houston, but Mansfield still has the highest score in Texas last time i heard. a 71.7 at the NTCA competition at the thomas collaseum. Ars Nova has an amazing show though.
  8. really? ok. i havent gotten to look at the other scores yet, just our circut.
  9. any one else notice the scores for NTCA at seguin seemed really low this week? but here they are Scholastic A: Mansfield HS Varsity - 69.1 (second week in a row and still posess the highest score in texas for SA) Legacy HS Varsity - 66.9 Berkner HS Varsity - 65.4 Aledo HS Varsity - 64.4 Hebron HS - 51.7 Independent A Ars Nova A - 69.9 MSU - 57.4 Unity Varsity - 38.3 Independent Open Ars Nova - 69.8 not many showed to this one but they did pretty well. scores were oddly low, and a lot of penalties were present. Ars Nova open, aledo, and mansfield varsity will all be at houston this saturday as well
  10. im going to houston too. we're among the first guards to perform so we get there really early. but i cant wait :)
  11. anything from NTCA? their second week of competition was yesterday.
  12. wow. super excited for this season. its my first time to get to go to dayton and im ready
  13. i deffinatly agree with the don't stop believeing and hometown glory ones. ive done an adogio to hometown glory and it turned out really nice.
  14. my director has always gotten us kings and they're really nice. theyre decently priced and last a long time. we practice on concrete for fall season and my rifle held up well. weights vary a little but not that bad. I've had two 36" and a 38. they tend to break in the neck when they break but they last a long time. most of our team still have our rifles in fairly good condition and we got them in the middle of July all the way through now. tape seems to be a must though. i personally love the king brand
  15. wow. ok so im 15. i got into it at the end of seventh grade when my assistant band director decided to pull some strings and put a colorguard "club" in my middle school. at first i hated it, and almmost quit during the summer practices although they were nothing. by the time october/november rolled around and we got rifles...thats when it really hit. i started loving practice, always talking about what our show was going to be al the new work we learned...my friends got kinda sick of it. Although i dont really remember it, i evedently hated rifle at first, but now it is my true love. i even started spining a little sabre. even though we never competed, performing for people became my passion. for fall season of my freshman year, i decided to march guard instead of my flute for which i am deffinatly thankful for. we accomplished much this year. now winterguard is starting and im one of only three freshman in varsity so its kinda a big deal i guess. first year in a "real" winterguard and its the first year my school is going to dayton...yes! thats pretty much my story. it sounds like i got started really lte...goodness. i think one of our techs started when he was like...8 or something. thats really young. and really cool. i didnt know anything about it until the very end of 2007.
  16. we have what we call our prayer circle (also called a friendship circle in girl scouts) in which we cross our arms and hold hands. then we jump up and down and recite our section cheer. we havnt actually done it this year but its pretty cooli. i think the cheer is in my sig...but i dont remember...lol
  17. This is what i've been told for the catching tape. Put the sabre against your rifle and where the put the tape where you catch (closest to the tip) right in the middle of the neck. I have a 36" sabre and rifle, so it may differ a little, but that seems to be a good place for me. I don't know what to do about centering the white tape. Mine is just completly taped, so we didnt't have to deal with that.
  18. my teacher has always told us to just use WD-40. we use it to get alll the residue off of the flags or sabres or whatever. it works great and most people have it at they're houses. just put a little on a paper towl and rub it on.
  19. Thats basicaly what we did. We weren't allowed to compete in cadet class because the other schools in the area weren't competing, and that just opened up a bunch of problems. So, we called it a "club" met twice a week, and exhibitioned instead of compete. It was not nearly as stressfull as an actual competition, but everyone got the feel of being at a competition. Plus, they learned the basics, and were really good. Which is good for middle school kids. Now, at least ten of them are going on to be in the high school guard, which helped them a lot. nothing can beat kids who already love the sport, and are coming in with experience. (who bring friends of course) it would work for the younger crowds, but I'm not sure about high schoolers.
  20. i think we are planning on 50 this year. makes try-outs a lot easier for us. i think there were just about 50 exactly at the clinic, so i think we're good. it'll even out becuase we have a huge band.
  21. we have a bunch of girls going to a different school next year, so we are needing a bunch of new people. basically, our instructor went to the incoming school and presented what we do. Shes going to do sorta the same next week with the lower grade. then, we are going to make posters, little flyer and just talk to our friends about it. We had more than 100 people interested in it when she went to the other school, and that from one day. That seems to be working for us, maybe you could try it.
  22. and a power regional finaly comes to dallas!
  23. Personaly...I'm not to fond of them. To me, they don't even really look like euipment as much as they look like something that belongs in some sort of abstract art museum...
  24. My friend and i have had an on going discussion about the theme of Black-Gold's show. I love it, i just don't know what its about. So if someone could tell me what it means, we would greatly appreciated.
