  1. Agreed, not to mention any of the corps I'm interested in won't be any closer than a 6 hour drive to me this year. At least last year it was a 3 hour drive and I made that trip (on a wednsday night) only to have the show rained out. The DVDs are rather pricey too. I think my wife and I own one set since they started putting finals on DVD.
  2. Yeah no kidding, that was rude wasn't it? I think I may have heard it before, but I hadn't even thought about it for a while now, so this still felt like news to me. For some of us drum corps is a HOBBY. I follow the Red Sox more than I do drum corps, but I still love it and participate in it. It does raise an eyebrow to me (and I'm sure many others) that they are in so much of a pinch that they are not broadcasting it on ESPN2 or PBS. I mean, come on....PBS!? It doesn't matter what the state of DCI truly is, when this happens it raises questions.
  3. That's awesome. They should also look into Dropkick Murphys! Haha! I'd like to see more John Williams and Danny Elfman. I love what they do. I know they've been done before a little here and there, but I'd like to see more.
  4. Wow, that's really good man. I'm no "TV guy" but I'm a drum corps guy and that was actually inspiring! I like it more than the NBA version, that's for sure!
  5. Well if we're talking field corps then my two years with the Bluecoats were exactly the same, 7th place. Last year in the DCA minicorps competition, Carolina Gold was 16th.
  6. What the crap? That is ridiculous! Who would do something that stupid? I am ###### for you, Cru. Some people...
  7. 1983 Bridgemen - that was my favorite edition of Black Market Juggler 1987 SCV - Russian Christams music and The Gayenne Ballet. That music, while maybe not that exact show, is the catalyst of my marching life 1988 Velvet Knights - Gotta love Veek 1988 Bluecoats - I really dig Take Five, and as an alum this might be my favorite version of Autumn Leaves 1989 Velvet Knights - what a fun show! 1989 Bluecoats - the hornline really got to show off in Sing, Sing, Sing 1990 Velvet Knights - How about those pants!! 1992 Velvet Knights - do you see a trend!? 1993 Velvet Knights - if not just for William Tell 1994 Velvet Knights - one of my favorite drumlines ever! 1995 Velvet Knights - my favorite drumline! I was FLOORED the first time I heard this! 1995 Cavaliers - I think this was the first drum corps show I ever heard. I appreciate it much more now than then. 1995 Blue Devils - this is likely my favorite BD show. 1995 Madison Scouts - easily my favorite Madison show, I just love Malaga! 1996 Madison Scouts - 8 quads...count em! Malagueña rocks! It isn't the most popular piece of music in drum corps history for nothing! 2000 Cavaliers - it's almost cliche, but I still like it. 2000 Cadets - great work with the drum feature. 2001 Bluecoats - another big reason I marched drum corps, and the Bluecoats 2001 SCV - a very tasty show. 2002 Bluecoats - I was there, of course I love it! The way we ended was a blast! 2003 Bluecoats - yeah, I'm a homer, so what?! :) 2004 Cavaliers - the latin section rocked my pants off. This battles '95 for my favorite Cavies show. 2005 Bluecoats - very powerful version of Caravan! 2005 Madsion Scouts - I honestly haven't been a big fan of Madison since '96, but they did an excellent job with Carmen. 2007 Bluecoats - very cool. What a drumline! What an incredbile summer they had! Haha! I think I go against the grain a little!!
  8. To my knowledge, and granted I am a few years removed from the Bluecoats, their intention was to have more of a "police" look. Especially with their "Criminal" show. I actually like the change. They had black helmets once before and I thought they looked good. Now as to the comment about the 2002 ('92-'03) uniforms, I couldn't agree more. That's the uniform I wore and it will always be my favorite!
  9. When I marched in DCI it was a free for all. Find a spot on the floor closest to an outlet or you didn't have power that night. I don't remember it being a very big problem at that time. I can't think of any times I couldn't charge my phone. I don't recall anyone having power strips either. There was ONE air bed that I can remember. So that was definitely not an issue back then. Now that I am in DCA, I can't believe I didn't use an air mattress!
  10. Having been in an "underdog" corps by the deifnition of the original post, I'll go with my home team. The Bluecoats.
  11. If I had to pick one favorite year it would easily be 1995. There are others that come close, but 1995 takes the cake. Cavies: The Planets, BD: Carpe Noctem, Madison: A Drum Corps Fan's Dream, Cadets AND Bluecoats both did very good WWII themed shows. In one night you had what could be (arguabley) called the loudest moment in DCI Finals history with the Mdison Scouts at the end of Malaga. What can I say? Malaga is awesome. BUT it also had what could be (arguabley) called the quietest moment in DCI Finals history in the Bluecoats show after the "Newsreel" movement when they present the flag to the crying guard chick. Dead silence! All you hear is the girl crying. That's powerful! So I would agree.
  12. Hi. I'm David. I have never spent much time around here, but there are some fun discussions going on. I've also seen some people on the board here that I know and even marched with! I was a member of the Bluecoats bassline in 2002-2003 and currently march in the Carolina Gold snareline and am percussion section leader. I am now a Porsche mechanic by trade and had not been into marching since I last performed in WGI in 2004 with Element IMPE (Tomball, TX) until I joined Gold before last season. I will not likely be a big poster here, but you'll see me from time to time.
  13. 1989-1991 Bluecoats, the "smurf" uniform. The Colts eventually used an inverted and red version of that same uni. They were both pretty ugly. Early 80's-? SCV when the drumline wore green and the rest of the corps wore red. 05-06 Cadets. 03 Madison. I just didn't like it. I thought they had a good thing going before that, although in my opinion they needed to have stricter rules on facial hair grooming. I'm not going to say the '94 BD unis sucked, but I really liked the old "tuxedo" unis. 03 Pioneer. I'm not a fan of the Marine Corps hats.
