  1. 2013 and 2014 BD were incredibly, deceptively difficult. 2017 was not. Nowhere close. No one hits a home run every time at the plate, not even the Blue Devils visual design team. Sometimes the dull argument is off-base, sometimes it's on-target.
  2. We come from park and bark to pose and play. But you must have an awful short memory considering just last year BD won with a show that had absolutely zero individual visual difficulty and very, very little ensemble visual difficulty. There was a 10-15 second run in Flight of the Bumblebee that was the only time in the whole show the entire ensemble was moving and playing at the same time. The other 11 minutes were "Run to these stairs! Pose! Play! Run to your next set! Pose! Play!" They were handed 20s in visual just for... good staging, I guess? The Blue Devils have very effectively codified THEIR visual style into the visual sheets, so in that the ONLY way to get good visual scores in DCI is to do it the Blue Devils way. Don't get salty because Vanguard is beating them at their own game this year.
  3. Prelims scores are up! 2 caption change should be available.
  4. Chester Phillips has a doctorate in music and is the associate director of bands at Georgia State University, what the heck are you on about?
  5. One of my all-time favorite drum corps memories was the 2014 Crown snare drummer whose drum came off the hooks right as the battery started backfield. Allan Kristensen picked it up and booked it backfield, and the drummer only missed performing in a few seconds of his age-out show.
  6. Yes, I believe that's an official rule now. One change of up to two captions between each show during Championships.
  7. Championships are upon us! For all classes, ALL corps will advance to Friday's Semifinals, and then the Top 12 from each class will advance to Saturday's Class Finals. Immediately after the season the Rules Congress will be open for suggestions and changes to the system, and also for bids for Season 29 Championships sites.
  8. Can Chris complete the sweep during Championships week? Full rankings will return at the end of the season, but here's the medalists going into the last three shows... Season 28 Sweepstakes Standings (through 08/04/18) World Class Renegade Brigade (29.0) Corps of Unspecified Identity (29.0) L'Etoile du Nord (24.0) Open Class Corps of Unspecified Identity 2 (56.0) That Other Corps (35.0) Les Blanc Chevaliers (22.0) Class A Corps of Unspecified Identity 3 (48.0) That Other Other Corps (45.0) Hg (34.0) Please note there will be no tiebreakers at the end of the season. The listing format just won't let me repeat numbers.
  9. Sorry gang, I uploaded Saturday's scores yesterday but there was an error in the file and it didn't process. I will fix when I get home.
  10. Down the stretch we come! The final point increase has been instituted, and there are only four Sweepstakes dates left to go (8/4, 8/9, 8/10, 8/11). We have two tight races and one potential runaway in the Sweepstakes standings... Season 28 Sweepstakes Standings (through 07/28/18) World Class Renegade Brigade (28.0) Corps of Unspecified Identity (27.0) L'Etoile du Nord (20.0) Star of Jupiter (19.5) The Knights (17.0) Quiksilver (15.0) Bellbrook Eagles (10.0) That One Corps (7.0) Violet Knights (5.0) Nastalgia Vanguard (3.0) Texas United (2.5) #1 Corps (2.0) Open Class Corps of Unspecified Identity 2 (46.0) That Other Corps (33.0) Les Blanc Chevaliers (22.0) Star of Hawaii (19.0) Mercury (18.0) Texas Zephyrs (6.0) (points earned on four dates, tiebreaker) Sparrow Regiment (6.0) Nastalgia (5.0) Night Shade (1.0) Class A That Other Other Corps (39.0) Corps of Unspecified Identity 3 (38.0) Hg (34.0) Cross (14.0) Cape Cod Regiment (13.0) Dragon Corps (7.0) Enchantment (5.0) Chicken Scouts (3.0) Nastalgia Percussion Ensemble (2.0) L'Etoile du Nord B (1.0) Current Overall Leader: Corps of Unspecified Identity 2 (Open Class)
  11. Yeah, because we hired people to do it. It was miserable here on Saturday, upper 80s with high humidity. We're too old for that. Beautiful house, though. And our first one! (Could never afford to buy a house in California.)
  12. Internet is fixed at my house again, so I will get Monday and Tuesday's scores up later tonight. Things should be settling down now. Thank you for your patience.
  13. Just bragging rights. It was started as a way to measure which corps were the most consistently excellent throughout the entire season, as opposed to just "getting hot" during Finals week.
  14. Just a reminder that in about 15 hours my wife I will be moving into our new house, and I will be offline indefinitely. If all goes well, I should be able to get Friday and Saturday scores up on Sunday. But there will be a delay this weekend until we get the router set up at the new place. Thank you for your patience.
  15. Now that we have a few shows under our belts, here's the first Sweepstakes standings of the new season. As a reminder, all shows with SW before them on the schedule are Sweepstakes shows. For all shows on that date, the overall Top 6 (all shows combined) in each class will receive the following points: 1st=10, 2nd=6, 3rd=4, 4th=3, 5th=2, 6th=1. Season 28 Sweepstakes World Class Standings Renegade Brigade (20.0) The Knights (11.0) (one 1st place, tiebreaker) Corps of Unspecified Identity (11.0) Star of Jupiter (10.5) L'Etoile du Nord (10.0) Bellbrook Eagles (7.0) Violet Knights (3.0) Texas United (2.5) That One Corps (2.0) Quiksilver (1.0) Open Class Standings That Other Corps (22.0) Corps of Unspecified Identity 2 (16.0) (one 1st place, tiebreaker) Star of Hawaii (16.0) Les Blanc Chevaliers (12.0) Mercury (9.0) Texas Zephyrs (2.0) Night Shade (1.0) Class A Standings That Other Other Corps (20.0) (two 1st places, tiebreaker) Corps of Unspecified Identity 3 (20.0) Hg (12.0) Cape Cod Regiment (8.0) Cross (7.0) Enchantment (5.0) Dragon Corps (3.0) Chicken Scouts (2.0) L'Etoile du Nord B (1.0) Current Overall Leader: That Other Corps (22.0) (Open Class)
  16. Congratulations to our Regional Champions!
  17. We are in the home stretch now: moving day is July 14th. It's not just the move: we bought a house, so we're trying to get the windows and doors replaced/scheduled on top of everything else. I apologize for any delays in scoring and the like for the next 10-14 days. Thinks should be back to "normal" by the weekend of the 21st.
  18. They are now in the system. Apologies, this game is still very manual.
  19. Deadline for starting is Regionals weekend, which is NEXT week. The game is still open! I will, however, be giving the first point increase and switching off unlimited caption changes in just a little bit.
  20. La Playa Stadium at Santa Barbara City College is one of the most under-appreciated stadiums in the country. I mean, here's the view from the stands!!
  21. Yes, it would be too much work to code this into the system, so we operate on the honor system. Once unlimited changes are turned off I will start contacting those still in violation. 20 points max per GE caption for Class A. 20 + 20 is fine, 25 + 15 is not.
  22. As long as there are West Coast shows, my goal is to do it the following morning but sometimes there will be a delay of up to 24 hours. Later in the season I will try to do it same night. Please note: my wife and I recently bought a house and are moving in mid-July, so for the first half of the season my schedule is going to be a little up in the air. Scores are up for last night.
  23. Scores are up for the first day of competition!
  24. You've been warned... http://www.drumcorpsplanet.com/forums/index.php?/topic/168597-2018-uniforms/&page=58&tab=comments#comment-3725149
