  1. I always say the best way to do anything like taping a sabre is what works best for you. We've changed the way we taped sabres each year, no rhyme or reason. Sometimes we just like one look better for our show. The only taping we do consistently is rifle taping- to reinforce the "weak areas" of the gun.
  2. Here's another one: "Rifle vs Airblade"
  3. Any company that makes flags will do this design for you.
  4. Any company that makes flags will do this design for you. It sounds like you're describing most solid shaped flags: a solid piece of fabric with the upper corner "cut off" to make it flow more smoothly. We have a similar flag we use for practice flags. Are you asking for specific companies?
  5. Put it in some type of bag and check the bag. It's really not that complicated or problematic. Just don't try to bring guard equipment on the plane.
  6. Was that the year they did The Giving Tree?
  7. How many times have I heard this since George died? George was a great man who made a great product. Hope it happens, but we've already been burned before relying on these "new" Ultimate rifles that never come out.
  8. One of our performers brought one of these "fake" rifles (I'm not sure which brand) to auditions. Her high school used them and she had bought one. It was very slippery but had a textured surface (probably to be able to grip it better). It was weighted the same as most other rifles, but just felt odd. I didn't like the "slipperiness" feel, and think it would be very detrimental in the rain for outdoor use.
  9. LAST CHANCE AUDITIONS! We will be having one more round of auditions on Sunday, October 10 from 12:30 pm- 6 pm at St Louis Catholic School gym located at 7601 Burnet Road, Austin, TX. There is a $40 non-refundable audition fee that will be counted toward performer tuition for the season if a contract is offered. visit our website at http://ATXwinterguard.org for more information!
  10. Onyx made reference to it on their facebook page. Not sure about 02, but they may also be doing it.
  11. We did gift wrapping last year at a local bookstore. We made about $3000 working about 10 shifts that were 3 or 4 hours long. We also work concessions at local sporting events, which brings in some decent money. I was really surprised by how much the gift wrapping brought in though!
  12. Good luck with the request, Kandice! We love White Gold! You guys are so nice and so much fun! Thanks for your help with our floor in Dayton last year and for being in the stands to cheer us on! We really appreciated it! :-)
  13. This has got to be one of the weirdest threads I've ever read (including the ones dealing with SBS)...
  14. I have to agree with Jak. The main thing is -- if you can get staff members from quality school programs (high school and colleges) involved, their names and skills could help pull in new members. We've found that people don't want to join something where they don't know anyone or don't know what to expect from the program, even if it might be the "only option" available to them at the time. The other options are 1) travel or 2) don't participate. However, it looks like you were silver medalists in your class last year (based on previous posts you've made). I would think this would attract people to your program, so it could be something else entirely that is keeping them away.
  15. BUMP! Reminder! This Sunday round 2 auditions and call-backs from round 1 :-)
  16. Do the routine and tell the "old girls" not to count at all. No matter what. put the more experienced girls in the back so the new girls can't watch them for the work. They'll learn pretty fast how important it is.

  19. Ogio (formerly Denton Fusion) in Denton, TX, is about 2.5 hours away.
  20. that's my understanding as well. It's the case in most marching band circuits-- anyone who is holding a piece of equipment is considered "guard" during the time they are holding the equipment.
  21. It's one most of us would have a lot of trouble getting rights to, since it's from Wicked. Nice advertising, though.

  23. My opinion? I think you wrote this in the wrong section of DCP.
