  1. Wow. It's pretty obvious which caption spends the most time on DCP.
  2. Thank you for imparting your wisdom, oh wise oracle.
  3. Air mattresses and sleeping pads are for 6-year-old girls.
  4. I am deeply indebted to a number of individuals who influenced me during my four marching years at the Colts. A few deserve special reocgnition: Craig Armstrong and Jonny Zolo: If there are two men in this world who have a more detailed or thorough understanding of marching technique, I have not met them. Many of my most successful teaching techniques were unabashedly stolen from these two men. Kent Lineberry: His passion and fire for the activity and the Colts was inspiring, followed closely by his incredibly effective teaching and pacing. Dean Musson: An incredible brass teacher and wonderful pedagogue. Chuck Naffier: An extremely passionate man. Perhaps the most profound reason for my decision to spend all four years with the Colts. Beth Wilson: Beth loves the corps with every ounce of her being. No matter the circumstances, Beth's positive attitude and unsinkable optimism are unwavering. Working with her only revealed a deeper commitment to the corps than I had previously seen. A very heartfelt thank-you to the teachers and staff from my marching years. Thanks for the opportunity to thank these incredible individuals!
  5. Technically, an episode of "ranting" is called a "rant."
  6. I'm unaware of a message board, but if they marched in recent history, I might be able to help. ...and yes, most of those addresses are long since invalid.
  7. The vast majority of those I marched with were music majors (at some point in their college careers, at least).
  8. Sigh. If you get a "cheater" mouthpiece, and you instantly add half an octave to your range, you're doing something severely wrong.
  9. There is an odd phenomenon that has surfaced over the last few years in the Colts soprano line: an intensely proud and loyal second sop line. It has even gotten to the point in numerous cases where members have turned down the lead part to play second. It's almost like a cult. I was wondering if anything like this had popped up elsewhere?
  10. Picc. trumpet, by far. Highest tessitura, smallest bore (high degree of back-pressure), smallest amount of lip movement between notes (requires extreme precision), small mouthpiece that bottoms out when pressure is used, and literature that unfailingly requires transposition.
  11. I never thought I'd say this, but where is the Cavies love? I fail to see how anyone can seriously consider their book to be "easy" by any means. 16th note runs in the low and high brass, field-wide (and mind-numbingly in tune) chords held for eternity, a gigantic fugue, what else could possibly be asked of a group? The show wasn't as flashy musically, but by God the substance was there! My vote went to BD, but I can't see why the Cavaliers can't get credit for one of the most mature and challenging books ever seen in the activity.
