  1. " end of story " remarks unfortunately signify a personal confiction of one being right and others wrong and not open to the presentation of data that could conceivably alter one's belief system. Thus, it would seem folly for me to try and engage a closed mind. So I'm certainly not about to attempt to do so now with you by providing research data that does not support your belief of enhanced performances by other members on the night of multiple holes and multiple fall downs as it relates to the GE. Vis. and Vis. Perf. captions. Suffice to say, the judges do assume members are present in the Visual caption formation completion when it fact a hole is present and not a marching member there in the visual formation completion. We can dispute whether or not judges should assume this or not, but your remarks above tell me tha you are basing your comments on a misunderstanding of the judging system in place.
  2. maybe this subjective analysis could be avoided by simply awarding point credit to Corps that in comparison on a given night have no fall downs, and no holes. However as we've all seen, Corps that have a better reputation for excellance with a more visually demanding show get lots of point credits. ( and proof of more " demand " was the multiple member fall downs itself..... ergo, more point credit ) The lesson here is that simpler visual programs executed rather well are not as point worthy as more visually demanding shows that result in multiple member fall downs on occasion, particularly when said Corps has a reputation for exemplary execution without multiple member fall downs most of the time.
  3. We have also learned that " holes" in a line due to missing members also have no negative effect on scores. On the contrary. " Holes " in line can provide extra points. But only if the Corps has a good " reputation" for exeecution. For example, when a Corps has a " hole " due to missing member(s) judges are instructed to envision in their mind that there is, in fact, a member in that " hole". The judge then assumes the member from the corps with a reputation for execution would have executed the visual move and therefore in the judges eye, the visual move is to be " seen " as executed and completed, and not visually flawed due to the missing member (s) creating a " hole " in the visual formation. Thus, we see Corps with " holes " not having visual scores impacted. It is believed by some that the day will come soon when a creative Corps might decide to bench a performer or two that have repeatedly failed to execute their visual moves in order to increase their score through " hole " institution. More than one observer has even opined that such creative use of " holes " has already been implemented.... and successfully. But this is pure conjecture and can not be fully substantiated.
  4. No, we learned early last season that falling down does not cost you points. Some on here also said that falling down but getting up quickly and/ or smoothly can actually provide youu style points with the judges due to agility and dexterity demonstration. For example, a Corps last season on a rainy slippery field in June in a competition in New England had several members fall down during the show. They got points for this by executing a return to formation gracefully and separated themselves point wise over a Corps that unfortunately had no opportunity to demonstrate such agility, as no one from their Corps fell down during their performance. As a result, their overall Vis. Perf. score and Ge. Vis. score went down from the previous night, and they lost by a wider margin to the fall down, get back up gracefully and with aplomb Corps.
  5. Tough question, because you are asking which earlier shows would " be competitive today ". Since the judging system has changed dramatically, it would be totally unfair to judge earlier designed shows with todays competitive judging standards. The earlier DCI shows would be at a decided disadvantage. For example, these earlier DCI crowd pleasing shows were designed when the General Effect captions awarded points quite differently than this caption awards shows today. Thus, probably none of the earlier shows would do well competitively today. They would be killed on the visual judged captions, and in return would get little GE points awarded for making audiences want to throw babies for their audience musical entertainment appeal. Conversely, some high placing Corps of today would get positively buried on the GE captions of old should they have performed a well executed musical show, but one that did not connect much with an audience. For instance, would the 2009 Blue Devils have won a DCI Title under the older judging system ? Of course not. Then again, the 2009 Blue Devils would not have designed such a show if the earlier judging system with different interpretations of what is considered superior " General Effect " was in force either.
  6. Either Blue Devils, Cadets, or Cavaliers will win it all in 2010. I know..., I've really gone out on a limb here with such a shocking prediction.
  7. Unfortunately, there is no words that can properly capture performing in Drum Corps. But suffice to say, once you do experience the adrenalin rush and excitement of performing for audiences in Drum Corps competition, no further explanation will be needed. Good luck.
  8. Well, since the question was memorable " shows ", it would seem to me the standard bearer would still have to be the 1994 27th Lancers Reunion show at DCI Championships in 1994. If there has been a louder and longer sustained ovation for a DCI Show after that performance, then I'm not aware of it. The 2nd most memorable show performance might be the Finals performance of the 1995 Madison Scouts , 3rd place being the 2008 Phantom Regiment Finals " Spartacus " performance, 4th place being the 1989 SCV " Phantom of the Opera " Finals show performance, 5th place the 1984 Cadets " West Side Story" Finals show performance, and 6th place being Carolina Crown's " Triple Crown " Finals show performance. I'd base this on the audience response that I saw and heard to these shows. I do recognize that judging this by audience response is a subjective evaluation. But then again, all judging is subjective anyway when comparing great and memorable shows that audiences seemed to have loved the most.
  9. They don't perform in the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympics. They compete in the Triathlon event. and win the Gold Medal. and then perform for their Gold Medal Award ceremony.
  10. I think some band directors have bad attitudes, misconceptions, jealousies etc, too that make some..... SOME people......have these feelings" get the better of these people ". Do you know any band directors with these feelings of hate and jealousies, etc, MisterA ? Maybe it's just me...... but this thread sux . This " hate " thread makes the room smell sort of funky foul. I've used an air freshener........ There.... I think it's a little better already.
  11. The Corps is so good, that 4 of the girlfriends of Don Equis left him to join their Alumni Corps.
  12. INT has the longest chord on record. 1 hour.
  13. They are so good, a judge lost it and went streaking au natural across the competition field last year. and only one fan in the stands noticed, and he quipped...." That judge is blocking our View !!
  14. They are so good, Madonna herself claims that she marched in the Corps once.
  15. We have 'em on DCP all the time. Most of 'em are little, but a few are a doozy.
  16. The Corps brings everyone to it's feet in loud applause for their exciting show while simultaneously making every judge in the competition disappear one by one, until at the end of the show, the DM turns, smiles, and then bows to a full crowd with their standing ovation under an empty judging booth above. And up until then, we had thought that SCV had performed the best disappearing act in a show many years ago.
  17. Rumors are, Dos Equis, the Don Juan of overpriced, mediocre beer, has been experiencing more than just " one awkward moment " with the ladies of late. Too much alcohol has been known to have such effect. Hey Dos :........." stay thirsty my friend ".
  18. As long as Madison doesn't Slaughter Rhapsody in Blue on 10th Avenue, count me on board with this announcement. But if it's the Jim Prime we've all come to know, then we Drum Corps fans who like to tap our feet and snap our fingers to the beat should be in for a treat with no tricks here.
  19. Melody left us for a another. Now she begs to come back ? I'm easy. I say we allow Melody ( and her sister, Harmony ) back. They use to be so HOT ! Maybe they can still take our breath away.
  20. I'd like to hear " INT " do Music from Stealers Wheels : " Well , I don't know why I came here tonite. I got a feelin' that something ain't right. I'm so scared in case I fall off my GE chairs, and I'm wondering how I'll get down the stairs. Clowns to the left of me, Jokers to the right. And here I am..... stuck in the middle with you ".
  21. I think the Yankees suc.........................................ceed a lot.
