OK I've got a rookie question: what is the best way to solve ingrown toenails on tour?

The Meaning of SUTA
jedihunter80 replied to 3rd_Star_Brigade's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Dan Potter actually mentioned it in an episode of the Field Pass this year, can't remember which one exactly -
So I'm trying to figure out a certain chord progression from SCV's 2009 production of "Ballet for Martha". Its the part near the beginning where the brass is playing the progression while the pit has the melody. I believe the hornline also used it as a warm up. I'll post exactly where in the fan network video it is once my internet stops moving so slow Thanks guys!

Love it!

A brief lesson in GE from a barbershop choir
jedihunter80 replied to Michael Boo's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I'm pretty sure this video just made my day! And IMHO GE should be how much the audience enjoys the show, both emotionally and just pure entertainment value. -
Happy Black Friday everyone! Hope you all are enjoying your Thanksgiving leftovers Here at the Colorado Drum Corps Experience, we thought we'd take some of our holiday down time to explain what's in store for the coming season. First up is uniforms and instruments: For uniforms, we will be using FJM as always. The designs will be the same as in season 12; pictures are available on our website (www.freewebs.com/coloradodce) Brass instruments will be provided by Yamaha, again with the same setup as last year (info on website) Percussion is provided by Pearl Drums, with Adams percussion in the front ensemble. Sticks and mallets are from Vic Firth Next up is our audition results. In October and November we had 2 very successful audition camps, and we ended up with the following: Firebird, World Class: 2 Drum Majors 22 trumpets 16 mellophones 14 baritones 12 euphoniums 16 contras 12 front ensemble 9 snares 4 tenors 5 bass drums 38 color guard TOTAL: 150 The Firebird Cadets, Open Class: 2 drum majors 15 trumpets 10 mellophones 8 baritones 8 contras 6 snares 3 tenors 5 bass drums 10 front ensemble 11 color guard TOTAL: 78 Rocky Mountain Regiment, Class A (formerly the Front Rangers) 1 drum major 8 trumpets 4 mellophones 4 baritones 3 contras 4 snares 2 tenors 5 bass drums 11 color guard TOTAL: 42 And finally, here are the long-awaited season XIII programs! Firebird's show will be titled "Asphalt Cocktail: The Music of John Mackey" The opener will be from "Asphalt Cocktail", and the ballad and closer will both be from "Kingfishers Catch Fire". Both are written by John Mackey. The Firebird Cadets show is titled "Symphony from the New World" Music will be from "New World Symphony" (if you couldn't guess...) And last but not least, the newly renamed Rocky Mountain Regiment will be performing "A Copland Western" The opener, ballad, and closer will all contain music from "The Red Pony" and "Rodeo: Four Dance Episodes" by Aaron Copland, including the famous "Hoedown" Well that does it for now. I hear some leftover pumpkin pie calling my name, so I return to your regularly scheduled DCP-I

Sounds like a great idea, can't wait to see how it works out! -
What is it about drum corps...
jedihunter80 replied to kauliflower's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Since a lot of the on-field aspects have been covered, let me put it from an audience perspective: Sitting there watching amazing drill, and then that brass hit happens that forces you to stand and scream, or you can feel the impact, or you just feel some emotion beyond belief. And the brass sound in general. -
High School Copies

You wouldn't happen to be talking about Chatfield HS would you? Because if you are I agree: great band, poor show design. -

Happy Vets day to all our DCP vets
jedihunter80 replied to 84skyrydr's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
A big thank you from a young patriot. My grandpa was an officer in the Army and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan for several years during Vietnam. He never saw combat, but instead was involved with shipping supplies and vehicles to the guys who did. He also met my grandmother while he was stationed there, as she was teaching English classes at a local school Thanks again to all vets from all wars, God Bless the USA and our troops currently deployed. -
The Most Interesting Corps in the World...
jedihunter80 replied to dckid80's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
They do not have one director, but rather an entire board of directors made up of every director to ever have a first-place corps. Except for Hopkins, who was kicked out somewhere between 2005 and 2007... The rest of their staff includes the all of the Star of Indiana and Crown staff members. They once did a show about Noah's Arc. They had to show up a week before the competition to build a giant wooden arc in the middle of the field, and then they flooded the stadium and the corps played from the boat. This leaves everyone wondering what they will do for their upcoming Titanic-themed show... Because of the amount of resources required, their shows are planned several years in advance. -
High School Copies
jedihunter80 replied to jedihunter80's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
Disagree with you here...school band programs taught me everything about music, and without them I wouldn't play an instrument or be a drum corps fan today. If anything, lets try to get some of them (like the one at my school, for example) some more funding so that they can get what they need to improve! -
High School Copies
jedihunter80 replied to jedihunter80's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
That would be them lol. And as for the not doing so hot, I just didn't like the arrangement of the show. Props to them for jumping up 4 places to beat us in semifinals haha -
I decided to create this thread based on the latest post in the "lolcorps" saga: Have you ever seen a high school band attempt to march a drum corps show? Or have you seen a high school band copy a corps' uniform? For instance: a local high school near me tried to do an exact copy of Crown's 2007 show this year (and didn't do so hot...) So what are some of the best/worst/most interesting attempts at high schools or colleges copying a drum corps you have seen?
-
Thanks guys for all of this information. I already know MB and Drum Corps are whole different worlds, and I may just schedule a meeting with my band director and talk one-on-one about me marching over the summer. I will definitely have to assure her that I won't come back a total db, and that I'll just shut my mouth and let the staff do what they are payed for...which, honestly, may be hard at times because there are a lot of those "I don't care" people in my band Wish me luck in convincing her.
-
She actually encourages us to take any opportunity to improve our skills, with the exception of drum corps. I don't know the whole story, but apparently several years ago she had two kids who came back from a summer of drum corps and they completely disrespected her. Now she won't let anyone in the band march DCI over the summer. Which is kind of funny because she is a huge Cavaliers fan BUT I have been working on convincing her, and if I say just the right things she may give in...its only a matter of time...

Round one of the vote is over, and now begins round 2! As before, you will be allowed to vote for more than one name. Depending on how many votes are received, I may make this the final round of voting. Thanks for your input guys

I thought the selected their members at birth haha I love that thread... Yeah that might end up being me too...my director is threatening to throw me out of the band my senior year if I march with a corps...and while I know many people here on DCP have a thing against Bandos, I am loyal to my good friends in the band and am kind of against missing my graduating year with them...
