  1. TCAI ( twin cities area independent) is selling their floor, there is a post on drum hard and a post on here i believe.
  2. I know this is kind of late, but if the kids are novice, I would just have all the drums you own set up on the very first day and have a bunch of copies of the book, then just let the kids get on a drum and run through an exercise or two, then have them rotate to a different drum. it's kind of letting you see what the kids are best at individually, so later on, you can let them go into subs and teach the desired technique/grip for each section. Obviously teh spots are going to be filled pretty soon and kids are still gonna want to play a specific instrument, so tell them to practice, so when you need a spot when someone leaves you are prepared. sprry if it doesn't make sense, i am in a hurry. I hope this can help you, mike.
  3. hahaha i've seen this before. " triplet speed is this ok?" Sanford was a beast who revolutionized the base for double beat. hahaha
  4. WOW! I have to say that I am blown away by the scouts drumline this year! holy crap are they throwin down or what! I think it has to do with the cali staff they got goin on.. hahah. I saw them at the Stillwaster, MN show. My schools caption head (Paul Weber) marched tenors there from 98-01. wow! I hope they can keep it up because they are going somewhere this year!
  5. Yes, words of wisdom man, that is something I can agree with.
  6. I have to say I disagree with everyone who says it's a slap in the face to the corps you "use as stepping stones" to get better. For example, in the real world, the first job for many people may be working as a dishwasher or bus boy at a restaraunt, They eventually move up the ladder by watching and learning from the waiters so one day they can become one and make more money. In this example, the mandarins or BDB corps is represented by the dishwasher and the Blue Devils A corps or Cavies or Phantom is represented by the the Waiters. everyone needs to learn one way or another. I know a guy who marched Madison and then aged out with the Blue Devils, what I am trying to get at is... There are hundreds if not thousands of people who audition for every corps, and a good chunk of them have the talent and skills that are needed, and there are the people who don't have the skills, but they are still accepted into the corps because they can learn and get to the level that it takes to be good and be the best. If every body stayed with the line they started out with, people wouldn't learn the different skills that other people from other corps could teach them.... This was kind of all over the place because I am not a very good writer, but I hope everybody can understand what I am trying to get at. ~Mike
  7. hahaha, Why did you quote me and then talk about the bushwackers and premiers when I was talking about Irondale and Mapex?.. hahaha
  8. and they do! check out our lot vids and our winter show from this past year. ( irondale drumline)
  9. If you are talking about the chrome ones they used, I heard they turned all yellow from being out in the sun. Th BS's have some pretty nice equipment though, my band director was their director until 05 or 06 (bill sucha) and we have an old tympani set of theirs and it's pretty sweet. I never played on their drums though, I've only marched pearls and mapex. I would look into some mapex drums because we've had nothing but success with them. they are fairly cheap too I think, they give us our drums so i'm not sure on prices.
  10. The show was great, Madison is really throwin down this year.( from a drum stand-point) Casey Brohard is their snare tech/Asst. CH. I was surprised by that when I saw him there. Wasn't too impressed with the BK's. My CH (Paul Weber -Irondale HS-) is their tenor tech, so I was kind of bummed to see that they weren't drumming too well. They seemed very Vanguard-esk, one of their exercises ( I swear to all that is holy) was double beat '04 and cheezy poofs/basic strokes all rolled into one! I think that Crown was the ones that really threw down though, I was very impressed. They were cleaner and tighter than Phantom. Phantom's new Dynasty drums are insanely cool. Brass was the only senior corps that I watched because I know alot of their line. Watched Govies in the lot for a bit..... I wonder if one of their tenors joined late or something because he was like reading off of music or something. They seemed to be drumming a pretty cool book though.
