  1. Wow... I guess instead of 4th at finals the Cavaliers have a shot at 3rd.... Mark my words!!!!!!!!! Neither Cavies or BD have a show worthy of the championship this year. It will come down to Crown or PR. Also beginning to think BK might not make finals at all. This is going to be a year of big upsets.... Welcome back .. Blue Stars, Crossmen and maybe even Madison.
  2. Finally I can vent about some of these...... should have won in brackets 1979 Blue Devils (Phantom Regiment) 1980 Blue Devils (27th lancers) 1988 Madison Scouts (Vanguard) 1989 Vanguard (Phantom Regiment) 1990 Cadets (Star) 1992 Cavaliers (Cadets) 1993 Cadets (Star) 2000 Cavaliers.... should have been Cadets alone!!!!!!!!! 2001 Cavaliers (Cadets) 2004 Cavaliers (Vanguard) 2006 Cavaliers (Phantom Regiment) 2007 Blue Devils (Cadets)... even with the nararation
  3. You couldnt be more wrong!! At the San Antonio show they got the biggest ovation of the night from where I sat. I was up very high in the stands. No other corps approached them as far as visual design. Sure it was a bit dirty and they might need some good cleaning specialist come in, but the direction of this corps is a major improvement from the elbow to elbow conjested marching program they presented in the early 2000's. If they had had this visual group in 2004, no one could have touched them.
  4. Let me get my 2 cents in here. 1990 paved the way for 1991 (best year in my opinion). There were of course some disappointments, but overall it definitely moved the activity forward. The guard dance during Somewhere of Cadets....... the amazing drill of Cavaliers.... and most of all the movement and difficult music of Star. I remember jumping to my feet at the company front that Star ran from every direction to at the end of that show. Cheering, clapping, and some said screaming obscenities of joy(holy s**t and stuff) when they hit that. To this day that is one of my favorite shows.
  5. Just based upon how much I enjoyed their show this year....... 1. Crown 2. SCV 3. Bluecoats 4. Blue Stars 5. Cadets 6. Boston 7. Phantom 8. Glassmen 9. Cavies 10.xmen 11.Troopers 12. Colts Blah Blah Blah 19. Blue Knights 20. Blue Devils 21. Madison The bottom 3 representing more than a half hour of my life that I will never get back.
  6. Phantom Regiment was the corps that I was most excited to see in San Antonio, having seen their previous versions of Spartacus in 81 and 82. This year the corps is great musically, but the visual design just does not measure up. It is NOT the members fault. They are doing a GREAT job. Unfortunately the visual reminds me of last years show which was also not up to the musical book nor the members talent. Did they bring back the same design staff? The guard almost disappears because of the costuming against the white corps uniforms and seem to be wasted trying to sell the storyline. When the Spartacus program was originally announced earlier this year, I thought that Phantom would finally win the championship I had wanted them to win(not tie) since I first viewed them back in 1978. I will continue to wait. A fall out of the top five is a possibility. But I think high scores in brass and percussion will keep them above Santa Clara. Even though I thought SCV had the best drill of the night.
  7. -The Cadets actually have a really good show buried under the narration and the god-awful set it is performed on. All this show really needs is a couple rounds of chemo and some radiation and it would be just fine.
  8. In no particular order. 27th Lancers Bridgemen Suncoast Sound Sky Ryders Freelancers Troopers Guardsmen Memphis Blues
  9. Nah... It's all about Sweep the Kitchen.... yum
  10. I went to college there in the early 80's right after that side was built. At the time the university had about 18,000 students and the football team was very competitve in division II. The marching was also very big and good. But since changing names from Northeast Louisiana University to University of Louisiana Monroe and moving to division I football the team and the band have suffered. There was no need to build much more seating.
  11. I was at the show in San Antonio last night. The Blue Devils are doing what they always do. The Brass is absolutely amazing, but never play anything difficult unless the hornline is in a very tight form, moving slowly, or standing still. It is much more challenging to move and play at the same time. The same could be said of the Cavaliers. Almost all of the best visuals are done while the Pit is carrying the show musically. It is absolutely gorgeous, but not as challenging at what is being done by Crown, Cadets, Bluecoars or Vanguard. I hope that this is why Cavaliers were 4th in visuals, and that the judges will start rewarding playing and marching at the same time.
