  1. But nothing wrong with using current rules to your benefit thats for sure.
  2. QUOTE (Jofus @ Aug 12 2008, 02:39 AM) For those of you who read about the behavior of the two corps next to the Cadets and saying "IF it's true," you can stop wondering. If you don't think a bass drummer was puking on the field, you're wrong. I watched it happen. One of those guys fell flat on his face next to me on the way down the hill into the stadium, and the whole way down slammed into my and others' drums because he couldn't hold himself up he was so drunk. Most of that drumline was extremely drunk and acting like complete fools the entire time. We were taunted and sworn at by some BlueCoats and Cavaliers while we were marching down, packed extremely tight on the road into the stadium. And yes, they were throwing candy AT us, and they got a real kick every time they hit our equipment. That was an extremely disappointing night for me to see people act like idiots, being belligerent jerks towards us with complete disregard to their own uniforms and how they represent their corps. My son was a contra with the G-men and told me the same thing after the show. His first year and could not believe the drum line was allowed to be on the field.
  3. Rudi man May see you there if I knew who you were. I'm just grateful that dam_ storm that sprung out of nowhere in the gulf did not hit us hard enough to change our plans. My wife and I are going to see our first DCI championship weekend. Woooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. Have tickets for semis and finals now - may make quarters if tickets available when we get in from Texas. Go Glassmen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. This is my first year knowing anything about DCI and I will say after reading the history of the Blue Stars in this thread I am very happy for all involved. I am a Wisconsin native and lived there for the first 39 years of my life. It makes me proud that the land of cheese is one of the hotbeds for this activity. I will be pulling for you to be right behind the Glassmen. Sorry, my son is a contra for the G-men. Nothing would make me happer than to see both take some by surprise and move up to tickle the current powers a little more this week. Give them something to fear for next year.
  6. GSNewell Thank you for your reply. That reminds me to thank Rod Owen for running such a tight ship and Brian Hickman for putting together such a good crew. With my job I need to be pretty observant of people and behaviors. Seeing how all of these people work together my wife and I felt very comfortable with our son traveling to country for 2 months.
  7. I would like to share and hope other do to how the DCI expriance, in our case the Glassmen, has changed my son in a few short months. My wife and I are amazed at the growth and maturity he has appeared to have made this summer. When complimented on a recent score he texted "Thank You", not "thanks" or "ty". Just that little thing means much to us. Don't know why that hit me so hard, but it did. When my wife and I spent 13 days feeding the kids at the mid to end of June we got to meet a few of the kiddos and some of the staff. The way they all interact is something to watch. Many coaches on many sport teams could take notes. One person worth noting here is Brian Owen, the food guru of the Glassmen. Whenever one of the kids was having a bad day, or homesick, he was the one they would gravitate to. Very cool, you can just see how he loves the kids. My son strained his sternum right after we left for home and Brian is the one who consoled him and encouraged him. My boy was never so down as when he would call from the bus because he could not hold his contra for a whole show, especially the show at Camp Randall. He has always wanted to go to Wisconsin, alas not to be. We went to the Alamo Bowl a few years ago and when he saw the 20 or so tubas play at a pep ralley he was hooked. He was born in Wisconsin and lived there until he was 5. He still considers himself a Wisconsinite and not a Texan. For this reason it killed him not be able to play and Brian helped him through the night. The empathy they develop for each othe is amazing also, even those in other coprs. He said he and a few other G-men talked to a few of the BAC kids after Friday's show and felt very bad for them that they are getting discouraged due to some type of internal strife. Our kids attempted to pump them up as best they could. Thany you Glassmen. Than you very much. I'm sure all the other parents out there have similar stories as mine.
  8. Spoke to my son on Friday nigh after the show and he said the kiddos are pretty pumped about a couple of "teachers" returning from their individual homes for finals week. Most notable he is happy the main brass man has returned. For him to still be excited about the possibliles of improving says it all for me. Could a 90 be possible? That number didn't mean anything to me 3 months ago, but it sure does now. Can't wait to see the kids again on Thursday.
  9. Just watched it. Wondered what the changes would be and - What a pleasant surprise. Wow!!!!! Gotta love it.
  10. Gee I sure hope so. They must be getting lucky as this thread points out in so many words and several posts, the Gmen just can;t be that good. lol lol lol lol lol GO Junior and the contras, onward to Bloomington!!!!!!
  11. Don't know how anyone could disagree about our Gmen. Wow!!!!!!
  12. Only wagon I test drove. Brian must be making good brownies.
  13. Sure hope they can stay in the top 12. Pis........s me off that we can't see the Salem show.
  14. That ticks me off too. Biggest jump of the season as a result of changes - was looking forward to seeing them. I want a refund. lol
  15. I think the scoring does show trends however, some are trending up and some down. As in any sport, and I do feel this is as taxing as any sport and more than most, I have ever been associated with it is easier to keep momentum up than to reverse a slide. That is how a team that may not have the "best players" can believe and "overacheive". We all know of instances where an underdog wins because they just don't know they are not supposed to. The time to peak is approaching finals and some appear to be doing just that. This has been more fun than following my son in any previous sport or endeavor. I thought I would just humor him an let him do this drum corps thing, but it may turn out o be the best decision I have ever made. To see the growth in him as a direct result of this incredible thing called "DCI" has been immeasurable.
  16. I just don't understand that either. I know posters got their undies in a bundle when I stated "spewing venome", but from the uninitiated that is how it appears. I like my perspective because I do not have "years of experience" to cloud what I am seeing now. "Historically" does not necessarily mean a hill of beans for the current. I do know however what appeals to me. The Cadets march and sound great, the narration - silly; Carolina Crown, love the show; Troopers, already spoke about; Bluecoats, enjoy show; Crossmen, did not like the show the first time I saw it - really enjoy it now; the top 4-5 speak for themselves. As far as the design of the Gmen "sucking" the 2 shows I attended the crowd loved them - both times the first standing ovation of the show. The people appear to like it. In a 10-12 days we will know for sure.
  17. It will happen. It appears to me that many posters just can not fathom that the Glassmen may actually be good. I have little knowlege that years of watching DCI "may" bring but when I watch the shows of corps around us I can't understand why so many on this board seem to believe the Glassmen are on the way down and out. Aren't the Gmen busy cleaning up also? To correct a typo in one of my previous posts. I believe all the corps are working as hard as they can. INCLUDING my sons corps, the Gmen. Also as an aside I have seen 2 shows live and as many as possible on FN and if there is any 1 corps getting the short end of the stick score wise it is the Troopers. I find their show very, very creative and entertaining.
  18. Fact and subjective opinions are worlds apart. Not liking a particular corps flags, music, show theme cannot be factual - simply personal choice.
  19. AMEN to that. All the kids work very hard I'm sure, not the corp my son is playing with.
  20. I'm a rookie Gmen dad and rookie to DCI this year. One thing that has been pretty obvious to me in the last couple of weeks is how the Gmen appear to be fair game to be for hyper criticism. I lived in Wisconsin for the first 39 years of my life and am very surprised at the venom spewed towards the Gmen and even the Crossmen sounding as if they are hoping they fall apart by those connected to Madtowns corp.. I would think you would just be happy for the progress your corps are making. I sure hope these are not Wisconsin natives. Sound more like south of cheese county a little bit. Also, I am proud that my son is involved with the Gmen and DCI as a whole. I don't see much of any posting from Gmen alum or connected on any thread looking for anything they can chew on against any other corps. This is appreciated by me.
