  1. I know I would have enjoyed the show more. The music was fantastic and the drill was pretty solid....especially the ending. Just can't see how you can tie two unrelated pieces together with that story line...( An American Elegy and Vesuvius.)
  2. My thoughts exactly Some mistakes that come to mind.... Narration: Bluecoats 08 are the only corps that I haven't flipped out on for using it. Crown '04: singing the music from Rent and then the horn line bailing out at the best part of Bohemian Rhapsody. They had a great hornline otherwise. The white rabbit....and the red....whatever you call it. and Sarah Jones.
  3. Wow....looks like no one can top VK '92. Way to sell the show. I can't even tell that there was a mistake at the end.
  4. Looks like a great buy for all of the shows. Hope the acoustics are better than the old stadium
  5. Wow I can't believe something like this is happening. Ridiculous.
  6. Well the big one I have happened about mid-season. I can't remember the show site...maybe Alabama somewhere? Myself and another guy were the side/backfield conductors for the opener in the '04 BK show. We did the usual warm-up with the corps and then made our way to our spots up front. We had to leave our mellos up front in the pit like most groups would do. The other guy, Frank, was on Side 1 to start. I was on side 2. I was always able to drop my horn off by myself but Frank always let techs drop his horn off in the pit. Well you can see where this is going.... We decided early in the season that we would always put our horns under the same two field drums that were in the pit. Well it just so happened that the one tech placed the mello under the wrong drum that night. When we made our way up to the front to get the mellos and hop into the drill we noticed that something wasn't right. It took me a few seconds to process what was going on but by that time it was too late---we had to move it because we had everything timed perfectly. I thought about making some courageous "lunge and grab/toss the horn to Frank" but I thought better of it. Keep in mind that there were field drums spread throughout the pit so the other mello, which was now closest to me, was about 5 yards away. So we got into the drill. I had my mello and Frank had nothing. He marched the entire show without it. Once I started doing drill I started laughing. I thought it was so funny because here was Frank, marching and SINGING his part. I'm sure this is more amusing to me but that was a big blooper in my book. Oh and after that incident I was in charge of placing both of the mellos in the correct spot to start the show.
  7. I'm not sure on BK but I know they had a lot of younger members join up this year so they are a "young corps"...... avg age 19. They do have probably a dozen age-outs at least. I also heard Spirit was really young....avg age 16-17.
  8. I can see where dci fans would be into such a game but I too think it might be detrimental to the image of drum corps and marching band. Remember all those a-holes who made fun of you for being in band.....yeah they are still out there and they'd still be jerks about it, even if drum corps is more than they'll ever understand in life. take a look at this link to The Onion. Hilarious. You'll understand my view better. http://www.theonion.com/content/news/activ..._sluggish_sales ..................If it were invented I would give it a try though.
  9. So I started to get people off topic in another thread so I'll start a new one. There has been a lot of talk about the Scouts and their uniforms as of late. Clearly they have been changing parts of their uniforms like no other. So....Which uniform do you think is the best for scouts? What should they change if anything? I personally wasn't a huge fan of this years look. It was a little too dark so they blended in to the field too much for my taste. Of course I like seeing them in green coats rather than those white ones they had. Bring back white pants at least
  10. I know the Cavies have used this formula in the past and it has worked. But sometimes their show concepts leave the audience wanting more from the show, even if it is well executed (05,07, 08.) Cavalier endings as of late have not been as exciting as Cadets or Phantom. Of course each corps is entitled to its preferred ending of choice.
  11. "ihonk" and similar designs were great. I know its a great fundraiser and advertisement but the "What happens at band camp stays at band camp" shirts are getting old. Its just too bando for me.
  12. Agree with above statement. I like the Cavies but their brass book this year was especially lacking. Clean, but not as powerful. However, it would be nearly impossible to do the drill they do and play at the same time. Ex: doing jumping pass throughs at 180 bpm
  13. I was there but I can't explain why they were doing it. I thought maybe they were either ###### off by something that occurred or they were all age-outs hanging on to the moment. (And Madison needs to change unis. They totally blend into the turf...unless that is what they are going for.)
  14. That is awesome. Not to get off topic but have any other corps received a similar honor?
  15. (Trying to revive this thread) 1.) Spartacus '08 finals night. The energy in the stadium was awesome both from the corps and the fans. 2.) 2004 SCV. Great show concept and the horn line was one of the loudest I have heard. 3.) 2002 Cavies. Watching the drill for the first time was mind boggling. 4.) 2002 Phantom Regiment. One of the first shows I have ever seen live and is still one of my favorites
  16. I just hope SCV is able to move on without any glitches. I'm very excited to see what the show is going to be like next year. Who knows....they have been on a every 10 year championship anniversary run......I see an '09 championship looming ahead. Or maybe I'm just hoping for too much. Good luck SCV.
  17. Now I'm hyped for INT. I was rather dissapointed by their performances this past season. I just hope that the staff members don't drain the budget before the fans get to experience the show.
  18. If you haven't already purchased one of them..... I have played on that type of Yamaha at UNL for about 4 years with no major complaints. They built solid but I think the new models are much better. I always had problems with water leaking into the slides and valves. The horns just lost their seals after a while. The sound can be worked with but it can be bright at first. I have also played on the King Mellophone for a year and I loved it. Very nice characteristic tone....at leat I think. Partly due to the bell flare. I didn't like the open shape at first but you have more hand space than the Yamaha. Do watch out on the brand!!! Don't be deceived by cheap imitations. Make sure you see the company name and logo etched into the bell otherwise it is crap...no joke. It wouldn't hurt to search for more options either.
  19. 1.) Phantom Regiment. Great show concepts and music. Lot of friends have marched there. If I had the opportunity I would have as well 2.) Blue Knights. ...cause I marched there 3.) SCV "Badassery" as someone put it 4.) Madison Scouts Crowd pleasing group
  20. 1) Invesco field has been the best experience for me. Great location, lots of parking, seating is very nice and updated, food was great and the sound is incredible. The field is perhaps the greatest I have ever marched on...smooth like carpet. Memorial (Bloomington) There isn't a bad seat in the house but it is a little cramped. The stadium food was ridiculously overpriced and not even that good. Parking was okay but getting to and around Bloomington was not that great for such a large event. The stands were right up to the field so it sounds great but it lead to chaos as corps come on and off the field. (Thanks Cadets for waiting to set up...not) It is nice to have finals on a campus too. Camp Randall. I've never been there but I would imagine that there is a great atmosphere there. Sounds similar to the Bloomington local Arrowhead. Accoustics are okay and seating is pretty decent. I think they have chair seating throughout but tight rows. Foods okay. Yeah lots of parking and the city offers a lot. I just don't think its as great of a stadium as everyone thinks. Citrus Bowl Orlando: Located in the ghetto....just look at the gas station across the street on the one side. Sound is fairly good. Weather always a toss up with rain and heat. Cotton Bowl: Very outdated stadium with uncomfortable seating. The field is a little rough. Also located in a shady neighborhood. Rose Bowl: Again never been their but I heard from my friends that the field was in terrible shape. Seating sounds like it is accoustically bad for DCI (too far from the field). Pasadena a nice location though I hope that Lucas Oil will be awesome too!
