  1. The Patriots would like to host the Philadelphia show, The Cosmonauts would like to host the Knoxville show and The Iron Curtain would like to host the show in Berlin.
  2. And then I will strap on a snare drum and call my self "The Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaass" and sweep all captions.
  3. Hey, I have no problem with the woodwinds in the pit. Heck, even saxes on the field doesn't sound that bad. Is it your dad's drum corps? No, but ask yourself this: Is it your dad's drum corps either way?
  4. Phantom, but not by much. I'm just more of a music guy. It's not that Cavies aren't good musically, it's just that Phantom is better. Phantom IMO is the music geek's corps. You end up saying "Whoa, awesome, they're playing X composer!" a lot. And they still do a whole bunch of cool stuff visually. And I idolize Phantom DMs. Koji Mori was not a boss. Koji Mori was the boss.
  5. Madison will sweep the entire season until Indy, because The Most Interesting Corps in the World had to roll back their tour.
  6. Sorry about missing the last few days. Work got in the way. I was actually going to update yesterday, but I exited out of the wrong tab on accident. Anywho, presenting The Patriots, from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania! *** The Patriots were more aggressive with their recruiting this year. Only a staggering 14 spots were needed to be filled throughout the corps, mostly in the battery. The Patriots held 5 audition camps over 5 weekends in these places. -University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania -University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania -New York University, New York, New York -United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland -United States Military Academy, West Point, New York The camps were huge successes and The Patriots finalized their final numbers at 128 members. Corps numbers for Season XIII are as follows. Total Members: 128 Drum Majors 1 Executive Drum Major 1 Assistant Drum Major Hornline 70 Members *Note: The Patriots play on G Bugles* 20 Contrabasses 18 Euphoniums 15 Mellophones 17 Sopranos Battery 18 Members 6 Snare Drums 3 Quads 5 Bass Drums 4 Cymbals Front Ensemble 15 Members 8 Mallet Players 3 Accessory Players 1 Timpani Player 3 Electronic Accessory Players Color Guard 23 Members, equally versed on flags and sabers *** The Patriots will be using these companies for their equipment needs. The Patriots will still be playing on G Bugles, bringing back that old school sound to drum corps! For brass instruments: For all drums and drum accessories: For all drumsticks and mallets: For marimbas, vibraphones, bells, chimes, xylaphones, timpanis and toms: For all cymbals: For all electronic equipment: *** Now stay tuned tomorrow for an uniforms, membership numbers and sponsorships from The Iron Curtain. I promise!
  7. Maybe this is a hint into the Cavies visual program next year.

  9. I play sax, so really any instrument would be awesome. Out of all of them though, I would've liked to march snare or bass the most. Battery is the place to be.
  10. The thing that gets me so interested about not only drum corps but all of the marching arts is the competition and the entertainment. The competition aspect is one of my main motivators. I love to win. I didn't play any sports growing up because they all were expensive. I started band in elementary school because I really really wanted to and my dad found a saxophone in the pawn shop. When I got to high school, marching band gave me the chance to vent all of my competition built up for years and years. In the area where my band is from, competition gets really fierce and the top bands around here are all very intense and very historic. I always hear about the fierce rivalries, like BD and Phantom in 08, or the Crusaders from the 80s, or any of those hard fought rivalries. Maybe I'm just a competitive beast, but I love nothing more than destroying another band and showing them that I'm better than them. Well, except for entertainment. Entertainment is one of the biggest reasons why I love drum corps and love all of the marching arts and also one of the biggest reasons I wanted to become drum major of my school's marching band. Expressing yourself in front of so many people is an awesome feeling and it's multiplied by 10000000000000 when they cheer and stand. I promise you, every bit of hard work you had ever put in will be redeemed when you look up in the crowd after your run and you see the people screaming and standing and clapping. My favorite part of every run I do is the bow and the end. Don't even get me started on how much I love to entertain. I once wrote this in this long speech I had to give about marching band and I think that a lot of this applies to corps, so I'll pass it along. For those 8 minutes on the field, performing the show to the best of your abilities, nothing else matters. All of your fears, worries, nerves, they're all evaporated underneath the bright stadium lights. All that remains is the hard work and perseverence you had put into your band and the judges would determine if it would be enough to go home a winner or take that long bus ride home empty handed. Every Saturday night in the fall became a night of highs, lows and most certainly emotion and drama. It's a cycle that, in the eyes of anyone who had ever competed in a marching band knows, you never want to end. Those 8 minutes turn into minutes of nirvana, where your season lives and dies by the conductor's hands and the paradiddles from the snare drum, and the flurry of rhythm exuding from the bass drums, and the stunning precision and technicality of the tenors. The chords from the brass, and the flying melodies from the woodwinds, the whirlwind of music produced by the pit and the tosses from the color guard. I know no greater euphoria than that of a marching band performance in front of thousands that understand everything you've worked for.
  11. Predicting 10-12 is going to be like predicting where lightning is going to strike.
  12. I'm sure a summer with The Cadets makes anything look like a cakewalk.
  13. I'm not sure I would ever want to march for The Academy. Not that there's anything wrong with the corps, I love the corps. I'd just die if I had to practice in Arizona. Those guys deserve big props for not melting in the desert.
  14. People build stadium seating around the parking lot in anticipation of them. They once did a Z-Pull during an X-pull during a Y-Pull. The buses are handbuilt chariots from heaven. Not even the corps members know the corps motto. The corps played a warmup chorale backfield once; the audience is still recovering. They jazz run during classical music.
  15. That's a terrifying thought. For my personal opinion, Cavies. Why? Because they're fun. I'm just one of those people that loves messing around all the time though. But you have to be really good.
  16. Just curious as to what you do. Yeah, you conduct, but what? Do they hand you a score and you conduct the corps for a little while? Do they hand you a score and you conduct to a recording? Do they just ask you to conduct in all kinds of situations? I assume there are probably some interviews in there somewhere. And who evaluates you? Brass, percussion and guard have caption heads and techs, etc etc, what for DM? And what do they look for in a drum major? Conducting over leadership? Vice-versa? Potential? Work ethic? Looks? What kind of conducting styles do they look for?
  17. With Season XIII approaching quicker and quicker, Cold War Productions, consisting of The Cosmonauts, The Patriots and The Iron Curtain, are proud to make more announcements. The announcements will be split over 3 days. The first day will go to The Cosmonauts, the second to The Patriots, and the third to The Iron Curtain. These corps will announce their membership numbers for the season and their sponsorship announcements. First off, we have several universal sponsorship announcements. For all of the corps recording, publication and music publicity needs, all three Cold War Productions corps are proud to announce their partnership with popular music site Last.Fm! Through Last FM, CWP hopes to get their music out to an audience that may not be so familiar with drum corps, getting their product out to more people. DeMoulin will be providing uniforms for all 3 corps. Uniform designs for this season will remain the same as in the offseason except for The Iron Curtain, who will be sporting new uniforms with their new name. Also, Cold War Productions would like to announce a universal partnership with Under Armour. Under Armour will be providing practice and performance attire. Every corps member will be given 10 pairs of Under Armour Heatgear shorts, a choice of 10 shirts from Under Armour's line of shirts (or sports bras for females), 10 pairs of 2 pairs of Under Armour shoes, a pair of sunglasses, 10 pairs of Under Armour underwear, a cap of their choice, 10 pairs of socks and 3 sets of performance attire to wear underneath the uniform. Each member will be decked out in the best in performance apparel! Also, all CWP corps will be sporting Under Armour HaltSTEP II shoes as their marching shoes in uniform. Under Armour received rave reviews with their first marching shoe and hope to increase their presence in the marching shoe arena with their latest product. With that said, on to The Cosmonauts! *** After a series of audition camps throughout the Southeastern US, The Cosmonauts have come to their audition numbers for Season XIII. Total Members: 150 Drum Majors 1 Executive Drum Major 1 Assistant Drum Major Hornline 85 Total 22 Contrabasses 20 Euphoniums 22 Mellophones 21 Trumpets Battery 21 Total 7 Snares 4 Tenors 5 Basses 5 Cymbals Front Ensemble 20 Total 11 Mallet Players 5 Accessories Players 1 Timpani Player 3 Electronic Accessory Players Color Guard 22 Members, equally versed on flags and rifles As you can see, instrumentation has been altered in the corps. First off, one of the largest hornlines in drum corps got bigger, expanding to 85 members. All Baritone players will play Euphonium, in an effort to get an even stronger low brass presence. The battery expanded, adding 2 snares, a tenors player and 2 cymbals. The front ensemble grew to accommodate for more mallet players. The color guard shrank, in more of an attempt to use the guard as an effective visual additive to the corps and less of a distraction from the overall program. *** The Cosmonauts will be partnering with these providers for the season. For brass instruments: For all drums and drum accessories: For all drumsticks and mallets: For marimbas, vibraphones, bells, chimes, xylaphones, timpanis and toms: For all cymbals: For all electronic equipment: *** Stay tuned! Tomorrow, The Patriots will announce their membership numbers and sponsorships and The Iron Curtain will present uniforms, membership numbers and sponsorships on Saturday. And in December you should expect tour announcements and more!
  18. Couchmen Drum Major Auditions. But seriously, next year, as my high school marching band camp starts in July and I can't make it up, being drum major and all. Auditioning at a couple of places for DM and perhaps for Pioneer's cymbal line (distance being the main thing).
  19. I lost 2 Metric Tons. I actually have what's known as a bizarro tan, where I'm so tan I'm pale. I've dated every woman in the state of Massachusetts. My parents agreed to 4 years deep in the Amazon Rain Forest to learn from a rare native tribe that invented the drum. I broke the drum machine. They didn't record bpms this fast. Nobody's ever seen me drum before. Their heads usually explode when I play a paradiddle. I have my own drum corps circuit, where each corps is devoted to getting as skilled as me.
  20. What I was coming in to say. When you want good drill, you just ask for some Zingali-styled drill. With that said, I always find myself loving the Cavies drill most lately. They've consistently had fantastic designers for, sheesh, this whole decade. I'm not sure about their whole lineage on drill design, but they know how to have a good product and make it look like you're reading a drill chart.
  21. Just a burning question, I guess. I mean, they're on the sidelines, not necessarily a pit.
  22. Or, heck, what would be wrong with just releasing it to the public? I'd like to spend a day or two reading it. That'd be pretty fascinating IMO.
