Drum Corps Parade on Finals Day
whiteroses replied to Higgy's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I encourage you to look at my follow-up post, where I clarified my position by stating I am for the idea of the parade, I believe DCI should do more audience-friendly events, and those who have to participate should be proud to represent their corps. also, I chose my user ID randomly late one night, but I do get the York, PA White Roses reference every once in a while -
Drum Corps Parade on Finals Day
whiteroses replied to Higgy's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
to clear things up, I'm not against this. I just think it's very different from the present drum corps atmosphere. I know there were parades in past finals weeks that worked well, and there's no reason this shouldn't as well. those who have to participate should try to represent the city well, since we will be there for years. another example of something fan-friendly but not member-friendly is DCI at The Movies June 20. it's not as though members dislike this idea, but it is obviously geared towards those who are not marching. and they should do these events, because fans are important. -
Drum Corps Parade on Finals Day
whiteroses replied to Higgy's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
If you don't make finals, your season is over after you do inventory.. but now you have to do a parade? I'm really interested to see how this season turns out (including the G8 and all other new additions). DCI seems to be attempting to become more fan-friendly (which isn't necessarily member-friendly). -
What qualifies you as a member of a corps?
whiteroses replied to TubaJon's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
my corps (which i try not to affiliate with on this board while I am still a marching member) has something we get during finals week. when you get that, and are able to wear your member jacket, it is obvious you are a member of the corps. however, i feel there is a shift around late july, where the distinction between rookie and vet has blurred and you are just family. so, i think a member is somebody who makes it to that time, where you no longer feel like a rookie to the staff and veteran members. it gets harder to define when you have somebody who left because of an injury. they would still be marching if they didn't need to go home, so why shouldn't they be considered a member? and yet, they might not have participated in one show, let alone finals week. also, those who have left by their own free will (as opposed to illness or injury), to me, are generally not thought of as a part of that family. a few of these people are still my friends, but some of these people I don't talk to because of the fact that they just gave up and walked out. -
If you were to go on tour again
whiteroses replied to Britbones's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
I sat by myself for a few days in 09. You get more room, and there's nobody to work out sleeping arrangements with, but I was not a fan. -

this is an interesting topic. not to be boring, but I'd pick the seat partner I had last summer. he was box 5, we got along really well, and it's only been a few months but we still talk frequently. :) my second choice would be a friend that marched with me but never at the same corps. would just be a way to become better friends. if I could have anyone, I would still want it to be someone I already know. great seat partners are hard to find. :/ -
Best and Not so Good Drum Corps' Show Names
whiteroses replied to Tom Brace's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
first thing to come to mind was The Beanpot Invitational in Lynn, MA as well. that got some jokes. 'the pro football hall of fame enshrinement festival drum corps competition' was a mouthful for their female announcer. i generally appreciate the creativity that goes into naming small shows, though. -
I liked the survey. I put I was more likely to go to an all-inclusive fan-chosen show, rather than just chosen from the past few years. Definitely wouldn't go to a 2010 show in the cinema, since I kinda lived it. I also thought it would have been nice to have an option to say 'I would be likely to go, BUT I'm marching', or an N/A option. I also wonder if the June showing would be purely TOC, since the wording was so particular.

Are most of us basing this on World class shows? I literally don't know where I would go if I wanted to see Open class. And also- what do you consider a regional? I've only been a fan for about five years, but (at the current time) I really only consider San Antonio, Atlanta, and Allentown to be regionals, because all world class drum corps compete.. but that's just my opinion (and I wouldn't even consider San Antonio 2010 a regional.. more like a disaster). I live.. well, IN Murfreesboro. So, the top 8 (or the 2-day.. whatever they called it, back in 09) show has always been in my backyard. However, I used to go to only one show a year, and I would drive down to Atlanta to get everybody on one day.

Hello, all. I have decided that I don't want to put any regional patches on my member jacket. The patches I have left to sell are all the ones from 2010, minus San Antonio. I will sell them at the same price I bought them- 5 dollars each. If interested, send me a message.

I knew this was happening, but it being official doesn't make it any better. Then again, this isn't the worst thing that can happen. I just go where they tell me to

DCI Countdown 2010?
whiteroses replied to CrownFan4ever's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
i really prefer a date in april again, because i love how all the college kids from around here get together. it's much harder, impossible really, when it's in may and they're back at home. -
mmm, tasty. biscuits & gravy, grilled hamburgers, chocolate milk. pretty simple, really. these are things i like at home, and it was just nice to get them on the road as well, i suppose. oh, and grilled cheese & tomato soup. something i never tasted before. same for banana nut cheerios, haha. i also developed a taste for crunchy peanut butter & honey mustard? [not together!]

What show would you march?
whiteroses replied to rdtrmpt's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
2006- Cavaliers had a great show. first one i really remember. but, following the gender rules, i pick Phantom Regiment. 2007- Carolina Crown. amazing. 2008- Phantom Regiment. no explanation. cant put nicely into words how this show makes me feel, to this day. 2009- my corps... yeah, i would not pick anybody but my corps this year. much harder for me to enjoy something i havent seen live [although i could have seen at least top 8 since 2004], so i dont really have a huge opinion on anything else. edit for spelling. -
Just looked in my closet and realized I don't want/need all of the corps apparel I have. -DCI Bluecoats tee in M $8 http://store.dci.org/Bluecoats_Tee_P2644C97.cfm -Bluecoats Autumn Leaves shirt in M $8 http://store.bluecoats.com/ProductDetails....=TS-AUTM_LEAVES -Cavaliers shirt in M $8 no picture found, but its kelly green with "THE CAVALIERS" and the standing man is the "I". meant to look faded. message me if youre interested

i have the bonus year, and im not using it. [hopefully i can contact DCI and have them make my official ageout moved, but if not, i suppose that will be ok.] some people want to march more than seven years [outside of corps with age limits of course], but i think im content at four. its mostly a money and an "ok i need to get into real world" thing.

along these lines, I believe some corps use these large numbers to their advantage. they have a Nov. camp with 250 or so auditioning, then invite all of them back to their Dec. camp, helping their revenue, when some of those 250 should have been cut from the beginning. now, I can't say this is fact, but I have my suspicions, and I find it disgusting. invite back only those who have a good shot at making the corps, not those who have a bank account to help the corps, and cut those who are better suited elsewhere. more on topic, less ranting! I believe audition camp numbers are not always an indicator for summer placements. 80% of auditionees might fit the bill, which is a larger amount when you have 250 auditioning. on the other hand, you have lower numbers at smaller ranked corps, but they are usually the ones who want to make that corps go somewhere, and are not just going for the experience. think of how many people audition at Phantom Regiment just for the experience- which is not a bad thing!

Blue Devils 08 vs 09
whiteroses replied to loopin' froot loops's topic in DCI World Class Corps Discussions
if BD 09 was risking absurdity, i would have been happy they won. that show grew on me, but i was too focused on my hopes of PR winning it in 08 with one of my favorite all-time shows. i prefered BD's 08 show to the one in 09 anyways. ive only been to DCI finals twice- 08 & 09- and i knew going back the second year that the announcement of scores would not be near as personally exhilarating.
