  1. Yeah yeah, sure sure. Bottom line is, can the percussion play better than last year? Armchair program coordinators tend forget that it's all about performance. BD won overall effect last year and will always be competitive in GE due to excellent designers. It was the music ensemble & percussion captions that prevented them from winning.
  2. Ha, do you teach percussion or visual at 7th Regiment? Improved, I am sure. The corps has been getting better the last few years. Top 12 finalist? No. In alphabetical order Blue Devils B Capital Regiment Citations Dutch Boy Impulse (i they really, truly have 27 brass showing up) Legends Oregon Crusaders Revolution Raiders Santa Clara Vanguard Cadets Teal Sound What used to be Memphis Sound
  3. Needs 15-20 brass players? How many are in the corps now?
  4. it will be difficult for the powers that be to completely erase the debt that is the Open Class as long as BD, SCV' & the Colt's organizations have Open Class units.
  5. how about The "Used To Be From Memphis, But Bailed Out For Texas " Sound ??? Yet another sure fire sign a Div 2/3 corps is on the way out.......
  6. that's crap. from a financial standpoint Surf is a great deal. i am thinking there is more to your "corps-jumping" background than you let on
  7. not to mention a "visceral" experience.... come to think of it, any brass section that can recreate a pipe organ sound would be awesome
  8. My thoughts exactly. Well, plus why is he conducting these conversations with potential corps in publc view?
  9. did you burn a bridge when you left Jersey Surf?
  10. It's not up to the corps to decide if they move up. They must pass some pretty strict criteria to be accepted as a World Class organization. That means a strong board of directors, financial stability with preferably an outside source of income, a strong management team and a history of success in operating a well run drum corps on & off the field. I do not see any existing corps that meet that criteria.
  11. The "chairmen" of Open Class is a woman! I believe her name is Vicki Schaffer from the Colt Cadets.... whomever came to your camp was an imposter dude. Good luck Capital Regiment
  12. truth hurts? quote name='ruag8tr2' date='Feb 22 2009, 04:21 PM' post='2479857'] Do you ever say anything nice???
  13. ok, you win. you know more obscure music than anyone else. congratulations.
  14. next Empire response coming up............... "I know you are but what am I, na nana na na "
  15. What corp was the first to use a graphic to go along with their program announcement. Was it Jersey Surf in 2000 with Carmen?
  16. Ok - I give up, WHAT? You keep telling is to guess what. Boy, you Empire folks are tricky
  17. You have marched the last 2 years at Empire Statesmen at ages 13 & 14???
  18. Assuming they have the EXACT same staff and membership, sure. Unfortunately that's a ridiculous assumption. With normal turnover factored in, Reading presents a new corps each year and provides them the right amount of growth opportunity (stretching the performers limits) and skills for excellence. You seem to think that "difficulty" resides in amount of notes and velocity in running around the field. Any skilled performer would beg to differ. Playing with nuance, inflection, stylistic interpretation and doing so CONSISTENTLY is ambitious for any amateur even professional. Now if Reading would only get their guard to the same level as the musicians......
  19. No not all shows. Some were less painful than others and there were often moments of excellence (mostly in design).
  20. Don't confuse logical with easier. See marchers lunging forward trying to make a spot? That's not intended velocity, it's poorly designed drill See drummers ramming out notes like crazy? That's not a display of technical virtuosity, it's a non-musical drum book See corps play loud and ugly the entire show? That's not exciting, it's the Renegades. Don't diminsh the challenges of Reading's program (sans guard). Because it makes sense and is done well it can appear to the unitiated (or ES supporter) to be simple.
