  1. Someone posted on Facebook that they will be watching an Awards Show tonight on dci.org. Does anyone know what this is? Will they start broadcasting after Cadets perform? Do we see the encore? Do we see the announcement of scores and trophies? Is it free? Otherwise, it's facebook and twitter to stay in the know!
  2. of course, of course... just thought it was interesting.
  3. It's the time of year when penalties creep into the scores for various reasons. Last night, it looked like the ONLY corps that got penalized were those in 40th and 41st place. I mean, if you break the rules, you break the rules, but come on, talk about adding insult to injury, especially when your final score is in the 40s!
  4. it looked tacky to me, they should have just left it there, like last year... or like the Camp Randall Stadium "W"! It grows to be iconic!
  5. My guess is that his carrier may have been broken and the only way to still march with the drums is to actually hold them up. That happens. An unfortunate time for an equipment malfunction! I'd get on the phone with my sponsor RIGHT AWAY! lol
  6. Good point, and I think a lot of corps (read: design teams) do the same. Madison's horn trills, Bluecoats' opening set is the horns and drums outlining the field, and go somewhere from there, Boston used to start on the 50 for a few years in a row (99-2000 at least). These may be small examples, but there are a few things popping up from 2010 or 2009 in this year's shows. Crown (and some other groups) combining different songs into one chart (most notably, Somewhere/Somewhere Over the Rainbow). Think about it. Ain't nothin' wrong with a lil' repeatin'.
  7. I got chills that wouldn't stop. This stuff is amazing.
  8. "'scuse me! Three-peat coming through!"
  9. I was going to make a post tonight entitled "Why this stuff is more than just BAND" but YOU... You've captured it! I love you ALL and it's because of drum corps.
  10. A drummer that sings? She's the next Phil Collins! or wait.. is she in the Blue Devils snare line?
  11. Well i'm sure it's real, I've heard another tuba player do it in a concert setting (brass quintet). I'll ask around, seems to be a (not-so)common technique, but at least tuba players know about it. Maybe not all can do it because of its falsetto requirements. And you know tuba players... manly men
  12. So if they're using their voices, it must be falsetto or something, sounds pretty high (and convincing, if they're going for a record scratch).
  13. What is that high pitched whirly noise the tubas do? You know the one...
  14. I agree. The spread will only grow. Cadets vs. BD in NJ was .15, now it's .5. My prediction for tomorrow is .8 and finals will be 1.2. Hmm... those numbers are big... how about .65 and .95 (the spread in 2007) I really hope the Cadets finish what we started in 2007!
  15. Yeah, i'm getting the itch... i'd love to see a win! 10!
  16. A friend of mine in real estate once told me there's a thing called the 80/20 rule: it takes 20% of your energy to get 80% quality; it takes 80% of your energy to get the remaining 20%. The same goes for approaching perfection... it's hard! Therefore the scores make sense.
  17. oh wow, that's interesting, i never thought of that. but do you really think that just because there are LOTS of corps that would affect scores? If a group was on track to get an 88 at finals, why would that push them to, say, a 91? yes, this part of it will be very interesting - though probably not unexpected/surprising.
  18. Could you please update us as to when these blog entries are published? Thanks.
  19. Just a technicality, it wouldn't be completely out of nowhere because they would have to pass some people on Thurs AND Fri. It'd be a sight to see and mighty exciting for sure!
  20. Well in 2007, Cadets spoke about "athletes of God" and the devils won... It was a battle between the athletes of God and the athletes of the Devil...
  21. 96.2 is a little low for a champion's score, don't you think? the past few years we have seen 98.9, 99.05, 98.125, 98, 97.5, 99.15 With competition as close as it is, I think we'll see at least 98. I wonder if we'll get TWO 98s... i doubt we'd get 2 99s.
  22. Use this to introduce someone young to drum corps!! Going to a Connecticut theater, not sure which one yet.
  23. I suppose it's as possible as anything else!
  24. There, I posted a message to try to set them straight. Thanks for your concern!
