  1. 1) You know nothing about the art of comedy, or art in general. Obviously if you liked art you wouldn't like drum corps. 2) This picture isn't heavy handed like every other one in this thread, thereby making it more subtle and allowing for people to pull the funny out themselves through imagination rather than having it beat over there heads (you know, heavy handed? like a drum corps show)
  2. Drum corps arranging is generally pretty bland, arrangers generally aren't trained in composition and don't seem to have a ton of knowledge or creativity (the only drum corps arrangements that have really impressed me and come off as interesting are those of Jay Bocook) so you can't really blame them for generic writing. I think my biggest pet peeve is probably just the fact that pretty much every arranger only writes in three keys, B-flat major, E-flat major and F major, especially for openers. I understand this is done for acoustic reasons, but honestly, if you have a good corps to work with you should be more worried about being a bit more artistic and not just mulling over whether or not a chord is going to be hard to tune or not. That leads me to another thing, there's a lack of artistry in drum corps arranging in general (how many times does Appalachian Spring have to be played for people to realize that?) The genre in general is a retrogressive one, and whenever a corps comes along which goes against the aesthetic stream, like a Star or a BK, then there is a SEVERE backlash from many, suffice it to say, uneducated peoples from other corps and in the audience. Sigh, it isn't that hard, man up plz
  3. I don't understand, how is nudity indecent? It's not like we spill out of the womb swinging a cane, wearing an ascot, suit, and brandishing a top hat. Besides, have you watched a corps rehearsal or seen guard unis lately, ####, those girls might as well be nude :-\ Typical American, quick to get offended by anything, even jokes.
  4. To expand upon my views of rank breaking, I marched in a corps that was unfortunately "hardcore" about those particular things, and boy was it stupid. Look, you're/we're all artists, we're creating art and happen to be wearing dumb uniforms and walking around really funny, why the adherence to stupid archaic military traditions what have no relevance to a society of supposedly intelligent individuals?
  5. Dear Kid, It can't be a strawman argument if the OP specifically says that this isn't an argument in the first place, but a humoring of a certain idea along the lines of something else. Fail
  6. If you guys want an actual good laugh on the Internetz at things that aren't just forced 9 year old memes, I suggest 4chan.org
  7. MMmmmmm nope I have a sense of humor, a great one in fact, but I also have a brain, so nope I guess I can't see why any of this is funny. I guess having intellectual standards makes me a social pariah. Ooooh well, enjoy your thread that isn't funny :-\
  8. App Spring? Seriously? Why drum corps so retrogressive?
  9. When does this thread start getting funny?
  10. I salute Dennis Dodd, bandos deserve whatever abuse is thrown their way. I always thought the whole not allowing the breaking of rank was stupid anyway, especially if you're in a college marching band for chrissake.
  11. I'm cool with a guy marrying a dog, or two dogs marrying each other. Fine by me. Anyway, nudity should be allowed, I don't see what the problem would be. We all have that stuff, why are Americans so ashamed of their bodies?
  12. Drum corps histrionics? I like that term, I'm going to keep that in the back burner for now.... Anyway, several thousand points to whoever said the Messaiean
  13. I'd be cool with a corps doing a show called "A Night on the Bus" I think parents have a right to know about all the debauchery that goes on in drum corps. So much for education lawl.
  14. I totally considered it, but then I remembered that I'm 22, I haven't done crap since my *age out* finals year (I'll never tell when it was) and I'm pretty much 500% out of shape. Oh well.
  15. What would you guys think about a corps doing House or Disco music? I think that music is much more interesting, and would be more effective, than just doing some lame rock opera (yeah I guess I just called Pink Floyd and Rush lame)
  16. This is my favorite reply so far, a drum corps recreation of OK Computer plz
  17. I want to start this off by saying watch the first minute or so of this clip.... Or watch the whole thing, it's a great song, but my point is I'd love to see a corps do a Portishead show, or at least utilizing these production techniques.
  18. Not likely. Crusaders come out strong every year, that's just their nature, they're an aggressive corps with usually younger kids [with spunk] (at least that's how it's been since 2006 or so). I remember in 2006 they started off in June with a 74.5 or something and they almost beat Phantom, and of course we all know Phantom got 2nd or 3rd in finals that year, and I think Boston slipped down to 10th. They tend to lose steam in the last two weeks, both in terms of performance AND design. Of course, some new staff has helped them since the big purge they had last year, thank god.
  19. Forms of art are different from organizations whose sole purpose are to act as a business
