  1. One of the DM's for Cadets in '96 was a tuba.
  2. I love the opening hit of Glassmen's show. Very loud and exciting!
  3. I can't wait to hear the Glassmen hornline this year! I can't believe no one else has noticed this great addition to the organization. Some very educated and experienced teachers who contributed to much success with the Boston Crusaders 2008-2010. http://glassmen.org/index.php?option=com_c...s&Itemid=27
  4. Boston, just like any corps with any number of people in any section has holes due to injuries. If you watched Boston at finals they had 80 in the hornline. How do you know that the corps that had less than a full hornline didn't just have an injury that day? Even for DCI alternates could not fill a hole that quickly. Also, I know for a fact Boston had 8 hornline alternates this past year. I don't see how that is struggling for an 80 person hornline.
  5. Boston DID NOT receive a penalty, and their score is 89.85.
  6. Ok, first of all, for all you people responding to this thread who have absolutely no idea what the criteria for each caption here is a refresher. A previous poster listed all of the Visual Performance scores over the years, Visual performance is judged solely on individual technique. There is absolutely nothing in that particular caption that judges anything more than that. The Visual Ensemble caption judges at the ensemble level, basically what you are doing and how well you are doing it. For those of you who think that there is more emphasis placed on how good you look from up top you are wrong. Both these captions have a total score of 20, are combined with the colorguard number and divided by 2 (if you have an 18 in performance, 17 in ensemble, and a 19 in colorguard you will have a visual score of 27). The judges are required to stay in their caption and the tapes they make each night is indicative of that. Obviously their marching technique is not awful if they are coming in the top 3, on an individual level, every year.
  7. The mics are placed in the front of the field, and at that level you can catch a good sound with not much reverb. It will have echo during the lighter points in the show. The curtains will definitely help to catch some reverb. The roof will not be open so don't rely on that. I wouldn't be worried about the sound quality too much, I've stood on the sidelines in San Antonio and Atlanta and most of the corps still sounded great.
  8. The roof will remain closed the entire time to keep similar conditions for all corps. If one corps does better than another because during their run the roof was open, therefor they have less reverb to worry about, then it wouldn't be too fair. To try and combat some of the reverb a black cloth is being hung at the back of the field.
  9. There is no Spirit of Disney award this year. It is the Fan Network Award.
  10. I've stood in front of both. Personal experience.
  11. Even better with Bb's in my opinion. The more in tune you are, the louder the line will sound because of the overtones.
  12. Cadets went to Bb in 2000, BD, Cavies and some others switched in 2001. In terms of intonation, G bugles are not better. They were originally designed to be valve-less instruments. When they started putting rotors, and then valves on, the intonation was poor because the instruments were not designed for anything but the open harmonic series. Bb horns have great intonation because they are designed to be that way. I can guarantee that if you hold a tuner up to a Bb and then a G much more of the Bb's notes will be in tune. Many people try to argue that G's are darker and louder than Bb's. That was true back in the early 00's because the Bb marching line was not fully developed yet, and the tubas were very small convertible horns. Now that the Bb horns have been improved the sound is indeed darker, and louder.
  13. It shouldn't matter what they placed last year. This is a new season, and no offense, but Phantom (or any other corps) in my opinion should not automatically go last just because they won the previous year. The corps should be given the opportunity to be seeded in the position they have achieved this season. Given this years situation up to this point, and to please some die hard Phantom fans, we can put any corps into this situation as well: if a corps is in 6-7th place and allowed to go last at finals they will look that much worse when they perform after the top 3.
  14. The color guard is playing the tuba's valves during the feature too!
