  1. Hello, it's me, oldschooldbc, officially the lowest rater poster in the history of DCP. Many of you probably thought I was gone for good after last season. But I am back, whether I am wanted or not (kinda like a bad case of VD.) Yesterday's announcement was an abomination. Let's be completely honest now: DCI is no longer drum and bugle corps. If we allow wind instruments onto the field that are not bugles, then this is not drum and bugle corps anymore. It's really fundamentally that simple. I don't know what the next phase in the marching arts will be called, but quite honestly, I do not care. The powers-that-be are taking this activity in a direction I no longer wish to support. They seem intent on remaking this activity in what they want - not what it truly is, or what the students, alumni, or public really want. And they seem to not know what will be the consequences of their actions - or perhaps they just do not care. I honestly can foresee the death of this activity, as a result of this decision, and several others that the DCI leadership have rendered over the years. This is just the latest in a long line of bad, arrogant, short-sighted decisions that DCI has promulgated over the past twenty years. And at one level, that truly makes me sad. But to tell truth, I have simply grown numb to the situation. The activity is controlled by a small group of oligarchs who seem to be accountable to no one for nothing. There is really nothing that you, I, or anyone outside of the inner circle can do about the situation. I have no more children of marching age, and I seriously doubt if I will live long enough, to see any grandchildren march. By that time, drum and bugle corps could simply be a faded memory. So I have nothing at stake, if this activity collapses. I can simply walk away, and have nothing left to lose. I will still have my memories - and no one can deprive me of those. I'll still come back here every once and a while, to spew forth venom at the leadership of DCI, and what they have done to my beloved activity. But I have zero expectations that it will do any good - except it will function as a cathartic experience, for me at least.
  2. The results of my latest psychological evaluation are available on Youtube. Here they are: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yRSYhLn4RCI

  3. I am a dinosaur, and dinosaur's don't care what other people think about them. I am not this type of dinosaur: I'm this type:
  4. My prediction for next year? BD will come up with a Jazz interpretation of Mozart's Requiem....they will construct a giant, rotating crypt out of PVC pipes in the middle of the field....Their guard will dress up as the Grim Reaper.....They will squander a brilliant brass line, and come up .10 points short at Finals. Who will actually win? I have no idea. Does it matter at this point? The judges will vote for whoever they want to. Tell me who will be on next year's panel, and I will tell you who the winner might be.
  5. I don't believe it. I really don't believe it. I am shocked. How can this happen. Seriously? Can someone explain it to me? I don't understand. I had my "Carolina Crown Choked" meme ready. It features Lebron James. It was cocked, locked, and ready to rock. Do I need to change it to ready "BD Chocked?" Is that what I need to do? That is the only cogent, rational explanation that I can think of. I just can't comprehend it.
  6. Maybe Hopkins should burn them, or leave them in the lot in LOS. I wouldn't put it past him.
  7. I am watching BD in the Entrance Tunnel Cam on Youtube. They don't look happy. In fact, they look pretty ticked off. I would be too, if I were them. Other corps were laughing and joking before the start of their show. They aren't.
  8. I'm sorry, I've run out of those green plus markers. How do I get more? Do I have to donate to this website? (I am also out of red minus markers. I think I will need about 5,000 of those, by the end of tonight.)
  9. I guess I was wrong. If judging is going to be this bad tomorrow night, you probably will win!
  10. As promised, here is the meme: I already posted it in the semifinals scores thread. Boy, I am ###### off tonight. Seriously, I don't recall ever being this angry about a drum corps show.
  11. Sorry, these results strain credulity. They are simply unbelievable. And I don't mean that in a good way. How did Crown jump three places in percussion - against the same corps - in one night? Even if they had a completely clean run - and they didn't - then how is this even possible? It isn't. I actually posted this meme this afternoon: Well, Fugett might as well have given them a 20 - he gave them a 19.2! Same result! If I were David Gibbs, I would be positively furious. It was the percussion caption that cost them the title in 2008, and the same thing is happening all over again. Sorry, I am not going to stand here, look at a pile of dog droppings, and call it chocolate pudding.
  12. How did Crown beat BD? How is that even possible? I can't believe it! I actually asked Boo in the chat session, if there was some sort of tabulation error. I can't comprehend it. If they had a stick drop in the snare line, then surely their percussion score dropped. If that is the case, how could they have possibly made up that many points in the other captions? And how could they have gone up on BD by .625? How? It makes no sense. I really want to see the caption from tonight, to see how this could have happened. It is a giant mystery, practically impossible. We've really entered the twilight zone here, folks.
  13. The scores - and I can't believe that I am typing this: 1. 98.25 - Carolina Crown 2. 97.60 - Blue Devils 3. 96.85 - The Cadets 4. 96.50 - Santa Clara Vanguard 5. 93.05 - Bluecoats 6. 93.05 - Phantom Regiment 7. 91.25 - The Cavaliers 8. 90.50 - Madison Scouts 9. 90.00 - Boston Crusaders 10. 89.35 - Blue Knights 11. 86.40 - Spirit of Atlanta 12. 86.20 - Blue Stars 13. 86.05 - Troopers 14. 84.85 - Crossmen 15. 82.45 - Colts 16. 82.30 - Pacific Crest 17. 81.05 - Oregon Crusaders 18. 79.25 - Mandarins 19. 78.20 - The Academy 20. 77.95 - Blue Devils B 21. 77.70 - Vanguard Cadets 22. 75.40 - Jersey Surf 23. 74.65 - Genesis 24. 72.85 - Spartans 25. 72.75 - Music City WHAT THE???????????????
  14. Don't worry, Crown. It's all good....Well, maybe not.
  15. http://i.qkme.me/3vgej9.jpg Don't worry, Crown. It's all good....Well, maybe not.
  16. And the first voyage of the Titanic went really well, except for that pesky iceberg....
  17. To be fair: 1) If Crown does win fair-and-square tomorrow night, I will post a meme, featuring Sudden Clarity Clarence. 2) If the judging is suspicious, I will post a meme, featuring McKayla Is Not Impressed. 3) If Crown (or some other corps) is jammed by the judges, I will post a meme, featuring Rage Face. You can thank me later.
  18. Not everyone in the stands is a fat American, and not everyone in the stands is an American. That is an unfair generalization. Take this guy, who I saw up in section 666: I am pretty sure he is from Scotland. Maybe an old Kilties fan? I dunno.
  19. Just so long as they don't bring back Little Jeffrey from their show 3 years ago....God help us.
  20. No. Star's performance in 1993 was one for the ages. It had no weaknesses. Read the caps here: http://www.corpsreps.com/scores.cfm?view=scoreshow&showid=1993173 There are no 18 out of 20's on this caption. And that is what we will see on Crown's percussion caption tomorrow night. Because of that, it will not be a snub.
  21. I know there is 0% chance that any of BD's management reading this thread (or any part of DCP at this point.) But wouldn't we rather just hear them play a mix of Channel One Suite, Legend of the One Eyed Sailor, La Fiesta, and One More Time Chick Corea? They could probably do that every year, and win every year - and it would be 300% more entertaining than the shows they do now. When I heard that they were planning on performing a jazz adaptation of Rites of Spring, I thought that was ridiculous. Who knew such a thing existed? And why would you write that, in the first place? Moreover, how could you adapt that to a drum corps show? Stravinski's work has always been controversial. When it premiered in Paris, it practically started a riot, as the previous poster described. That being said, how far do you need to stretch this piece, to make it something that can be marched to, and is actually entertaining? Or will the audience leave, just scratching their heads? In the interest of full disclosure, I actually do enjoy Stravinsky's original work. I have a performance of it on my MP3 player. I think it is one of the seminal compositions of the 20th century, and it is right up there with the The Firebird Suite.
