  1. I'm thinking both cadets and troopers will shatter their uniform molds this coming summer. The new tradition will be no tradition. Jmo
  2. they've got to learn to drum somewhere ;-) lol
  3. Updated video - a couple weeks of practice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1aoeQlH4Ls Cadets winter percussion
  4. congratulations on your creative way to insult Cadets
  5. SCV brass had some intonation issues but dang it was LOUD. My ears are still ringing from their standstill at Allentown that year. The rolling notes in the opener were magic. They buzzed with the best of them. Magical. Sometimes technically proficient is soooo overrated. Hence this thread.
  6. Loved cadets 88. Sandwich between 87 Appalachian Spring and the hugely popular 89 Les Miserable program it is overlooked. A great program that probably translated better live than on video.
  7. I'm confused why the talk about Hannum...
  8. somewhat OT Cadets Winter Percussion warming up this past weekend - new drums https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpqp8F16Jbg
  9. exactly -- the emotion was cleaned out of the program (except for Amber Waves which got me even finals night)
  10. honestly a lot of chain type restaurants the only thing I've found "special" is one breakfast place http://www.cafepatachou.com/cafemenu.pdf very much worth a try & a repeat visit or two
  11. Crown's program is improving - and pretty rapidly. If they build on last year they should be in great shape this year I agree with others that some of the "issue" is that we have 4 monster programs right now - SCV, BD, Cadets & Bluecoats, getting passed 1 or more of them is TOUGH Doesn't matter though - if they can cut the spread a bit more this year their other strong captions will keep them in the medal rounds most likely - with a real shot at winning #2
  12. Title should be "soulless" , that's what I get for typing it on my phone
  13. Through the years we've seen drum corps programs which seem a little rough around the edges and lack perfect execution but we're extremely exciting and enjoyable. An example for me was Cadets Les Miz program in 1989. We've also witnessed programs that are technically brilliant but lack a spark of excitement. 1992 Star's program is one example for me that felt flat although I could appreciate the musical and visual performances I've personally witnessed many other programs through the years that started a season very rough in terms of execution and improved greatly in terms of execution but became really dull and almost unwatchable. As if the souls was hosed and perfected out of it. How do the best corps achieve the balance between perfection and inspiration? What are other good examples where maybe the dirty June program was more exciting or a well performed program that just sort of lies there? Do programs tend to lose excitement as the corps perfects them?
  14. And a similar video, this time Pines of Appian Way https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nj8p3SDOFa8 Percussion only...
  15. Hadn't seen this one before Percussion only run of Villa Borghese at the second Cadets January camp https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9iZckXGb-BY
  16. oh yeah because "some HS band" guy must suck lol lol lol
  17. while we await the 2016 edition of Crown - I present this "in your face" recording of the closer from 2014 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nugzb3qKm2o
  18. Something to chew on - Cadets Winter Production 2015: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AEGc3T0O8tg Solid show on the floor, lots to do over the next few weeks!
  19. Excuse me for being honest. Such a mistake on my part. I'm taking a vacation from this website. You guys are downright ridiculous. No mystery why the site is dying.
  20. My name is George. I was responding to another comment. Let's just agree to disagree.
  21. I know. It's really frustrating. A part of the game now for
  22. Remember watching him at work with Star in 1990. Amazing teacher and visionary!! And a hoot!
  23. zero idea what you are talking about... I was responding to a post about being surprised they are not "good planners" Each generation has faced tougher and tougher issues being able to march, longer school years, higher tuition costs (both college and drum corps dues), extreme time commitment. I'm not going to be drawn into an argument. I just found the "good planner" comment surprising and illustrative Sorry the kids can't participate - I know Cadets have done what they can, given the game we play, to help make it easier - reducing winter camps, using technology etc... I help sponsor kids and donate to several corps - volunteered in the past, etc. So I'm not the guilty party here. And frankly there's a lot of "commit and figure it out later" going on these days. More so than 20-30 years ago in my own personal experience with an evolving activity
