  1. it's a musical sport, and the most "professional" of any in its category. They are literally the best in the world at what they do. So parallels do exists. Just not the $$$ parallels - unfortunately. "The Summer Music Games" - anyone remember that?
  2. Um, not exactly It was the very end of the show and it was coordinated, even DCI was made aware, so they FILMED IT on finals night. The fire station was delighted to help out. Sirens etc went off when they made the backfield vignette of the firefighters in tribute to those lost or serving on 9/11. A great moment in a great show! :thumbup:/>
  3. I really liked the part where they were all out of step and musically/visually phasing side to side
  4. Regions. Like it used to be / another good option but we'd need more corps to make it happen. Maybe a mid-step to get us there as my "two part season" post suggests.
  5. DCI doesn't have the control you guys are picturing DCI doesn't need a "cap" - it needs better options for corps with less resources -- some shorter tour options... shorter season options... A mid-season "National Championship" at San Antonio would be a good first step for Open Class - and then a "World Championship" for Open Class at Indy Also they should shorten the overall season by a week to save $$ and avoid the growing school conflicts IMHO.
  6. yeah but it rained all 3 days at times and we were dry and no humidity or heat sorry but I'm down with that
  7. I sat in 440 row 1 - have for several years - and the sound was good / as was the view Sat in 240 before - it's louder because you're closer but as you say, a little low for drill
  8. you're correct 0.7 gap on finals was a lot - I was just referring to placement.
  9. it wasn't the last set. it happened when they hit the big company front and first he tried to keep going, then fell over as his leg went sideways and a couple staff/dci folks ran on the field to help "carry" him off while the show still was finishing it was VERY difficult to watch / the entire LOS crowd was in stunned silence... looked like a stress fracture that just completely gave way/snapped "be careful George" ooooohhh
  10. yup - the old staff went to SCV which barely beat them at finals... give it another year and I think Cadets will be in great shape as other are mentioning in this thread - stability is HUGE
  11. hopefully keep them - young group and had a good season and learned I'm sure some lessons/experience -- ending up in 5th by finals... with experience they should move up to top 3 -- plus (I would imagine) no towers to tote around next summer - that certainly hurt the guard program/score IMO this past summer they are a top indoor bunch that I think learned a lot about DCI this past year
  12. That's not exactly how it happened, but yeah - it was bad.
  13. I know Cadets have all the main players coming back for next year... Brass, Arranger, Drums & Drill.
  14. Still a lot of very good shows in the group I'll check out again down the road SCV, Coats, Troopers, Pacific Crest - plus more
  15. Mine: BD Cadets Crown SCV Bloo Phantom Cavies Boston BK Madison Spirit Troopers!
  16. I THANK 50 something year olds that have been in the activity for 40 something years trying to KEEP THE ACTIVITY FRESH AND PERTINENT TO TODAY'S YOUTH MY take on it. :thumbup:/>
  17. Agreed. I think they just need to get off to a stronger start next season - maybe tweak their off season and/or May move-in camp process... This year Coats really impressed me and finished very strong!!
  18. EXACTLY. Regardless - big CONGRATS to Cadets percussion - OUTSTANDING this year and loved watching and listening to you guys all season!! Great job.
  19. Grasping for straws in order to hate or disparage George Hopkins seems to be quite the past time around here... Hate away!
  20. I guess what some of us are saying is MAYBE percussion should be more than 10% of the score given that we are DRUM and bugle corps. For me - it took a lot away from the performance.
  21. It's not in the same post. It is a series of post from mid season which he speaks of his "other corps" and this one being "different" -- So I guess your reading a "snapshot" of an ongoing conversation between his regular readers and folks who want to react to a single post or idea. Seems like a lot of that going on this year. Selective reading.
