  1. If you know so much, why don't you ask Roman to hire you??? Hmmmmmmm.....and does it really matter and hurt people that Pioneer is in "last" place? They have their personal goals......they are obtaining them and yes, several of the staff that work with these fine kids have marched in a top 12 corps. Not sure where you get your information. Yes, Pioneer is a competing Corps and is as sound as the "Big Dogs". Bus problems, come on these problems have been issues for years, and not only for Pioneer. For God sake my husband marched Cavaliers in the 80's and he has told us stories about having to jump off the bus several times during tour and having to "push" the bus off the highway at 2:00 a.m. I suppose you drive only new cars! It happens to the best of them.......Whoever said Pioneer is going to be a "winning" corps in DCI? Winning isn't 1st place.......I don't care to know your definition of "winning" and I sure hope you don't have a kid marching either. Sorry to hear that Santa didn't exist in your childhood! Please.....post your nonsense on some other thread. We don't care to read it!
  2. Yes, our seniors graduate May 15th......and the rest finish up around May 20th so we have a good week or so before moves ins.
  3. We are from Illinois and our school is the first in the State to start which is next Tuesday, August 10th. My 17 year old, senior is missing his first days of school which is extremely difficult being in the AP program and being on a block schedule, not to mention he missed his entire camp for marching band. Not a big deal, but still not the best of circumstances.....Whatever happened to summer?!
  4. Wow! Part-time work or volunteering in a food pantry is good stress relief. Best of Luck to Pioneer. My opinion, one of the most entertaining shows of the year!!!! Love everything about it......so sorry if it offends people......not the intent of the corps whatsoever. Go late, don't watch......by the way, Pioneer does attend Church every Sunday and they never, ever encourage any faith......they go as a family, leave it up to the member to attend, end of story.
  5. It is so nice to read posts by positive people. I am a Pioneer parent and I am proud of the corps accomplishments this year. They are still working hard and who knows what is going to happen. It is tough to be the one who is constantly chasing all year, but now it is their time. I know the members of this corps have been down due to scores and they are constantly trying to figure out what they need to do. Making the 13 hour bus rides with no air conditioning, working in the heat, drill after drill, and still trying to reach their personal goals makes this corps "one of kind"! Its one thing to make those trips, no air, break downs and lacking sleep when you are fighting for a top position. These kids are simply fighting for the goals they set in December. As we wind down this season, my thoughts are with the kids of Pioneer as they finally made it to their destination today. Keep working Pioneer. Your dedication inspires us all!
  6. I totally agree with everything you say.......what is happening to this activity, "Drum Corps"? Remeber, back in the day, there wasn't anything called, cell phones, blackberry's and the internet when you were on the bus. These kids log onto these forums and read the feedback......lets keep it positive! Regardless if someone is offended by the show theme or dosn't think Pioneer is "worthy" keep it to youself. If you have marched, you know the work that goes into these shows! Give us a break.......Personally, I enjoy the hell out of the Pioneer show.....and talk about class, in San Antonio last night, when Pioneer was marching towards the field, a kid from Blue Knights said, "Go get em Pioneer, have a great show!" To you young man, you have class......lets learn by it! Good luck Pioneer as you finish the season!
  7. Boy....I need to get my eyes checked. I had several people ask me too....I sure wish I would have seen it! Where the heck were they? I saw the Kilties by the concession stand and everyone else, but I sure missed Pioneers booth! Glad to hear they were there though........
  8. Wow.....you read some of these postings and you realize how much this all means to people. I agree....that first big blast really does something to you. It is what the members are working so hard to achieve. I remember seeing them to do this for the first time......man it has come a long way. I never marched, but I know what you mean when people look at you like a "dork". My son marches in Pioneer.......his 2nd year. I'm sure as an alumn of this corps, you are proud. I'm proud as a parent. No matter what the future holds for my son, there is one thing for sure.......he has learned so much, not only as a musician but as a person. I know every corps faces "challenges", but Pioneer......I"m sure you know as an alumn. Maybe it was different when you marched, but if I had to guess, I'm sure it wasn't. As far as the Souvie booth goes, what is up with that???? No Souvie booth in Rockford either.......come on guys, it is a reflection on the Corps. I would only hope that the Souvie booth would be following our busses down the road........you have people who want to buy stuff.......sell it!!!! Easy for me to say, but I have re-arranged by entire summer schedule at work to volunteer, cook, watch and support. Our kids would love to see more people wearing their gear!!!! Don't want to drive that far.......?!?! Oh well, Good luck Pioneer!!!!!
  9. I was 10 rows up on the 50 in Rockford and I too, had my face blasted by Pioneer! In my opinion, the most entertaining show I saw! Loved the music, audience involvement and yes, Donny Allen's cheerleading skills were awesome! This goes to show the love this man has for this corps, no matter what "challenges" this corps faces, he believes in them and man, I'm proud. This may have something to do with the fact that my son, is the tall trumpet player on the 50 yard line!!! I would say these things if he didn't march.....Good job Pioneer and thanks for putting on a show that keeps us talking!
  10. Totally agree! Good luck Pioneer! Cannot wait to see you tonight!!!
  11. Lets not forget....Pioneer is a "TEACHING" corp. Many kids have never, ever played an instrument, marched or even speak english. Does it really matter about the score or the fact that Teal Sound comes out of the gate higher? No.....and whoever said it earlier is right.....there are MANY, MANY extremely talented members in Pioneer....that could march anywhere, but they choose not to for many, many reasons. Until you have been a part of what Pioneer is about, it is hard to make such comments. Remember, they just put in members from Mexico 3 days ago, who do not speak a word of English. Can you imagine teaching a drill to someone who dons't understand you! No, they are not as good as other corps and they know it. But, they work harder than any corps out there. Lets enjoy their show and hope Pioneer meets their goals this year, not those of us watching! No matter what is said, Pioneers show is awesome this year and I wish them all the best!
  12. Well....I was up in Milwaukee last night watching practice. Hmmmmm....some interesting things going on! New uniforms....absolutely amazing. Just wait until we all see Pioneer march onto the field in these beautiful, new, white, bold uniforms.... This is getting really good! Personally, I cannot wait until Naperville.....Good Luck Pioneer!!!
  13. Donny: You bet your kids are ready to work. Everything is OK and will continue to get better. You have done an "exceptional" job with this corps as has all of the staff! I have never seen a group of people work so hard. It is obvious how much this means to all of you. We cannot wait to see Pioneer march onto the field with those awesome uniforms! This is going to get really good and interesting......Good Luck Donny!
  14. I totally agree. This show is exciting. My son has marched Pioneer for 2 years. It is hard to believe that several members of this corps have never played an instrument or never marched before, not to mention several of them don't speak a word of English! It is unbelievable to me. I have watched Pioneer since their first camp in December. We knew something was different this year. The staff and members work so hard.....they have too. Someone once asked me, "do they really think they can make semi-finals"? Hell yes they think they can......! Pioneer has alot of talented kids who could march anywhere, but choose not too. These kids amaze me. When I watch them practice, which I do alot, I walk away amazed. I know all the corps work their butts off, but the members and staff of Pioneer have to fight so hard and they do every single day. They had a free day for a few hours yesterday and when I pulled up to drop my son off who was one of the lucky ones to be able to go home to shower and eat, the guard was turning flags and the drum line was across the street practicing too! Good luck Pioneer and like someone said earlier, it dosn't matter if you take 13th or 23rd.......you have made so many fans of drum corps proud. Your show is awesome and you all have so much to be proud of!
  15. Nothing like the Lobster Tail and Filet Pio had last night! It was incredible!!!Go get em PIO!!!!! Great weather all week, but throw in a couple of shows too! It is going to get interesting that is for sure....... new things on the horizon.
  16. Yes, the effort is appreciated and finally the score shows! Pioneer, your show is awesome and your hard work is obvious! Keep it going......your music is brilliant, your spirit is strong and your show is entertaining.......keep pushing Pioneer, anything is possible!!!!
  17. I agree, this show is going to be exciting to watch and see develop! Nice to have a DCP fan who stays positive and encouraging! I enjoy all the corps but especially the ones who have to fight! Keeps it exciting! Go get em Pioneer!
  18. Press release?! You can recall this drum corps fan making similar "observations" last year at this time? Wow! You have a tremendous memory. I'm on this forum everyday and couldn't remember one thing a person has posted. I happen to know that the person who posted what he "saw" is not a staff member, but an alumn of a World Champion Corps and someone who gives credit when deserved to all the corps. I too, have had the opportunity to see what Pioneer is putting on the field this year and agree with everything he says. I am guessing you never marched......or you wouldn't be so negative. These kids bust their butts to put on the best show possible......anyone that knows anything about drum corps knows this. So, I hope we can go through the summer reading positive things about all the corps and leave the negative in the minds of the ignorant! Pioneer - I wish you all the best!
  19. O.K. so my son left for the summer last week ~ It is his second year marching and I must confess, he is a different kid. While we loaded the trunk with his gear, he was whistling. Last year, he didn't make a sound. Didn't talk the whole way. This year, we laughed the whole way and we laughed hard! I noticed this morning I had my cell phone in my hand as I went to take my shower. Good thing is I didn't start the water until after I realized I was holding it. I find myself thinking about him constantly after I saw him and other members of the corps so sunburn their faces were swollen! But, they don't care.....they love this thing called drum corps. Why, I will never understand, but boy, I sure love talking about it! Drum corps kids are extraordinary people!!!!! Heres to a great summer!
  20. Drum Corps is the best of the best! Best tribute I have ever seen and heard.......... What a horrific day for everyone.
  21. Extending the season just simply complicates things. Like someone said earlier, AP classes, summer work and going back to school in early August will just prevent some kids from marching. Missing 4-5 days of school is just not an option. Whose bright idea was this anyway.......! In Illinois, we start the second Monday of August and get out mid May so this works out just dandy!
