  1. Thanks also for your review. Hey, quick question, do you remember how long the singing part was in the Crown show? Is it like 15 seconds, or more?
  2. They are both very good....Cavies have great drill, and they have a great sound, and BD is just flat out LOUD and awesome!!! But i would have to say that BD is better, cause they are just plain fun to watch. They always looked layed back, relaxed and like theyre partyin out there on the field. And everything else (i.e. technique, posture, M & M, etc) seems to come naturally! Thats just what makes BD in a class of their own. Not to mention their wicked sop soloists!! ^0^
  3. w/Stp: w/Stp: w/Stp: I couldnt agree more!!! It would drive me nuts if I was performing at a show, when I and everyone else worked our butts off to get better, then we get on the field, and the crowd isnt even paying attention to us! That would be soooo frustrating!!! I dont think that actually happened, but i could understand how that would feel! (oh, and btw, great review!! Especially Crown's! :D)
  4. White unis make it a lot harder to cover up on imperfections in forms as well as marching style, i definitely agree on that. But ive been hearin lots of good news about the show so far, and i cannot wait to see them at Nightbeat!! And if (when!) they make finals, that would be music to my ears!!
  5. I definitely agree that is all about attitude, as well as mental and physical strength, not on gender. Anyone can play contra!
  6. Well, im not as experienced as some others are, but i loved my F deg that i marched with Crown last year. But If those G mellos are "paint pealers," then Id LOVE to get my hands on them!!!! If youve ever heard me play before, youd totally understand hehe! B) (i got called out for playing louder than the corps a few times :devin: )
  7. Well, I know that Appalachian State in Boone, NC is a great music school, and plus its beautiful out there!! I do agree that its a big question, cause you have to think about what you want to do, how much you want to pay for it, and how far away you want to go to get there. Like some schools are more towards music ed (UNC CH ampssuck ), and others are designed for the performance major. There are a lot of schools out there, and i bet you can find the perfect one for you! Just do some research, and youll be surprised at the results. (Oh, btw, idk if youd want to come to NC State, cause we kinda dont have a major in music . . .we do have a minor tho!!!!!! b**bs )
  8. the only reason why i voted for the cadets is because i saw an encore performance after a show one night, and they jsut blew my face off!! That was cool! B) PR and BD do come in a close tie for second though :D
  9. ive played on king, blessing, and DEG, and i loved the DEG horn much more than any other. It just felt a lot easier to play, and had a darker and more mello tone quality . . .now, as for the price, i think the new DEG mellos are around $700, but i could be wrong on that . . .thats still a pretty fair price for a quality horn like DEG. IDK what the other horns cost, but id love to play a DEG mello again, after now playing a King here at NC State!
  10. Agreed. Plying on the TAN horns at BD in 98 & 99 was much the same. You can't fix any sharp pitches, but you can fix the flat ones. While it comes down ultimately to your ear this feature is a big help once you get used to holding your horn and playing. Sure it's a bit awkward at first, but instead of resisting change try and get used to it because this is the new style of horn for the future. ^0^ yeah, i definitely agree with both of you. Being a horn player myself as well, i got used to the new horns fairly quickly. But im glad you all liked them, cause i thought i was the only one for a while!! B)
  11. hmmmm . . .i didnt think they were that bad . . .i mean, i can lip notes easily like many others, its just that it made playing a little easier, at least for me . . .
  12. Crown (among other corps) switch to a new kind of horn this year, called the "TAN" horn, or Tune Any Note horns. All of our horns(except contras) had a second tuning slide that was spring - loaded, so we could basically tune any note (hence the name) while we were playing. I thought it was a really cool concept, after i got used to the new feel of 'em (we had to hold them a different way from our old horns). I was just wondering what others thought about them if they played on them this summer. Were they good, bad, worth it???
  13. seriously speaking, though, a high quality hornline is much better to listen to than a loud, crappy hornline. Plus, you can sound louder if a hornline is in tune . . .some hornlines could benifit from that!! ^0^ :P
  14. HAHA!! Exactly!!! Just think about Madison!! ^0^ ^0^ ^0^
  15. hmmmm . . .they'll change in, lets say . . .in the year 2396 B) :P (they'll be a divIII corps making 30's by then ^0^ )
  16. I was amazed at some of the solis/licks that the Bluecoates bari section had this year. They were awesome! Ive never really been a Bluecoat fan before until I saw their show this summer. Hats off to you guys(and gals! B) ) Blooooo! :D
  17. Yeah, the year that Star did "Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind" (i think it was late 80s ;)^ ), they had one part in the show, where a sop would play the famous melody from that movie, then 18 contras (WOW!!!! B) ) would play it in response (mimicking the movie scene at the end, idk if youve seen it) It was unbelievable!!!!!! Check it out, i think youd definitely love it! :D
  18. HAHA! I know what you mean!! We (Crown Mellos) had an awesome lick in the second song (Eros) of the mythology show! I loved playing it every time! Oh, and say hi to Alby Rose for me! B)
  19. i used an UMI 6v this year, i think . . . ;)^
  20. DEFINITELY Madison . . .i heard this season from a caption head that Madison will never go to Bb as long as they keep on making them . . .idk how long that will last, but . . .anyway, Madison is bent on keeping their philosophy on keeping the "old school" way of doing things, so they'll keep on using g's for a while, unless the new corps director has something else to say . . . <_<
  21. oh, i just heard about that. Is PR changing to Bb this year, or have they already?? Whats the deal???
  22. ####!!!! Sorry about that! w/Stp: I meant just to quote the cadets review . . . :o :(
  23. I KNOW!!!! I was watching them in the stands, and i just had a bad feeling as the guard came up front for their "sound off" near the end . . .i jsut knew that someone would drop it, but not like that! Ive watched them all summer, and their guard is awesome, dont get me wrong!! Its just sad that that had to happen on finals night .. .and the firefighters at the end . . .maybe just a little too much cheese, if you asked me .. . .but they did work hard! I heard that the members decided in the middle of the season to cut all of their off days and rehearse. Now THAT is determination!! Hats off to you guys for a great season!
