  1. Totally forgot about Crown 2010. I saw them live for the first time in Denton, was blown away of course. I will always remember my dad looking from side 1 to side 2 and back and forth in that opening when they were doing the attacks back and forth. He has no musical knowledge what so ever, it blew his mind. It was pretty hilarious, and I didn't even realize they were doing that until he had pointed that out.
  2. It seems like preshows have really started to come into play with shows recently, what are some of your favorites? I think some really set up the shows quite well. Mine: Call it cheesy if you may, but considering the show theme, I think Crown's 2011 "We Will Rock You" drum feature before the show was pretty awesome, and of course they made for a perfect build up to the "Bohemian Rhapsody" hit. Vanguard's 2012 "Jupiter" build up to the hit right after their announcement was timed perfectly, awesome moment in 2012. Boston's 2010 - 2012 shows all had great preshows to set the mood in my opinion, especially 2011s "Do you Hear the People Sing" and 2012's "Pines of the Appian Way" (probably my second favorite pre-show). My favorite pre-show antics have got to be from Phantom 2008, the minute they stepped on the field, the whole production came to life up to the second they left the field. What are yours?
  3. I need to stop reading about BD on DCP and let myself make my own decisions. I actually came to enjoy 2012 after I actually let myself watch it. Not my favorite show by any means, but I liked it. REALLY enjoyed it musically, especially the first 2 and last 2 minutes, epic stuff. Hoping it can be like that, but the whole show in 2013. I can at least appreciate the almost perfection they do whatever it is they do at. Loving me some 2013 show announcements, BD's really excites me in terms of how perfect this could be for them to keep doing what they're doing, but perhaps drawing a few more fans in. So, is it summer yet?
  4. I was waiting for an official announcement to freak out. But I think this is THE show I have to see this summer! I think their choice in source music and the show overall are a PERFECT fit for them based on how they are currently perceived and what they are all about. They don't care, they love their style and aren't going to let anyone change it no matter what the reaction it gets. Maybe their shows will be seen in 100 years by the DCI community like Stravinsky's "Rite of Spring" is perceived today? I've supported BD over the past few years because I don't believe in hating a corps because of their style or show choice, but I'm going to flat out support them even more this year. Some people aren't going to like it, but whatever. They're legendary, and I think this could be one of "those" shows like Star 93. BRING IT BD!
  5. I don't see how this could be anything like last year. (That's A GOOD THING). Interested to see how this turns out.
  6. From facebook: "We are pleased to announce the 2013 Blue Stars Encore Composition Competition! We invite individuals with an interest in arranging and composing music to submit their works to be considered for performance by the 2013 Blue Stars. The winning arrangement/composition will be played as part of the corps' encore repertoire for the season. Please SHARE with your music composition friends!" Details here: http://www.bluestars.org/story.php?story_id=681 Pretty neat idea if you ask me!
  7. For the record, the shows that I watched originally were all found on my own, I didn't really have anyone show me. :smile:/> Regardless that it has evolved some in style, it's still really different from DCI in my eyes, and that's what is really making me interested in it.
  8. Loving the stuff I've watched. Especially the Empire Statesmen.
  9. I really like the idea of Crown taking on Brass Band stuff, it opens up a whole new world of compositions that they could tackle. How much brass band stuff has been played in drum corps before?
  10. The videos I found? Nope, I found them on youtube.
  11. Perfect timing too, I'm out for Spring Break and not doing anything else (but practicing of course).
  12. I've never really watched any DCA stuff. It's not that I haven't wanted too, just haven't had the time I guess? I dunno, I wished I had, I LOVE IT! I've watched some early 2000s Syracuse Brigadiers and late 90s Cabs. While I love DCI, I just love how overall entertaining and crowd pleasing these shows are as a whole! I guess I'll have to follow starting in 2013. :thumbup:/> In the meantime, any show suggestions to watch?

  14. I wish I lived closer to shows, and I would do the same. The closest one to me is 292.5 miles. Yay living in the Texas panhandle. There was a competition where I live in 2000 and one in Lubbock (90 miles south of me) in 2007.
  15. Someone should make a drum one of these so I can vote.
  16. Most don't know, but if they did and cared about the activity, I'm sure they would care about it. I sure do, I've been aware and followed since the whole debacle started in 2010.
  17. I know and knew all of that already, I haven't been in some foreign country the last few months without internet access. I just wasn't aware that they kicked out the 8th corps that they've had the last 2 years.
  18. Well the last two years it was the top 8 from the previous year. Unless this is a completely different type of event under the same name.
