  1. Actually.. there is no rule against it thus they are as viable to the show as everyone else. Unless you're one of the guys who think marching timpani still has a place in competitive drum corps. However, if you haven't seen the show Frank is integrated into multiple parts of the drill when possible.
  2. Any Gmen members or hopefuls still looking for a home in 2013. The Hawthorne Caballeros also have spots available. Key Poulan as well as Rob Fergeson return in 2013 creating this years production "unRavelled". Cab/Gmen vets Nate Hawk and Grant Butters are also on staff this season. The Cabs will be holding camp in Williamsport Pa this weekend at Williamsport high school. Anyone interested are welcome to attend. Please reach out to Mike Ryan at m.ryan@cabs.org as well as www.cabs.org. Here is to seeing Glassmen back in full force in 2014.
  3. If you are still interested in marching this season. I can send you to our guard caption head Bobbi Biddle. He can answer any questions you might have.

If you are on Facebook here is a link to Bobbi. https://www.facebook.com/bobbey.biddle?fref=ts

  5. Waiting patiently for the next installment! Soon please.
  6. At age 42.. I can play better then most kids and pretty much march as well if not better then many of them. Anyone would be foolish to say age has anything to do with ability. End of story. I've seen many an older member come and go in my 27 years in DCA. And the only thing that held them back was they resisted the training and THEY let their age determine how well they do. But the funny thing is.. I've seen twice as many kids come and go. And it was no different. If they had the desire to get better, they survived. And many to move on to DCI and back again. The others barely lasted a year.
  7. We could use a hand with some aggressive vote. As they said your vote matters. We dropped to 102. So close but still miles away. Spread to word and tell a friend. Thanks. We could really use your help. http://apps.facebook.com/chasecommunitygiving/charities/223161472-hawthorne-caballeros-drum-bugle-corps?src=twitter
  8. Some have said it already.. that there are many people from your area who march. Some who also make the trek to Hawthorne. The Cabs have vans that come up from there and the Southeastern Pa area. So your choices are plenty. Good luck and hope you find the right choice for you.
  9. Agreed. I loved performing the Carmen show. Though I think I like this year a bit more. Being in the line, I can only say that our performance from my perspective was the best of the season this weekend. Reviews such as they are one persons perspective of a corps performance. Though I would say this one is more of a critique then a review. But thanks for your opinion. Rest assured we will be making larger strides in Scranton. See you all there.
  10. I met Bushman officially in 86, my first season with Hawthorne. To say the least to me he was like a super star. I've known of him for years. The Dizzy Soprano, and that amazing sound. To finally perform with him was something else all together. He might as well have been Maynard. It was kinda stupid. We wore the the same uniform, played the same music.. but I feared even talking to him. Ya know, 16 year old kid and I could imagine him not even noticing I was there. But to my surprise, although he called me kid all the time, he was an amazing person to talk to. And he loved to play. I'm very said to hear of his passing. But know that he hasn't been forgotten. We often listen to 84 and 85. So his amazing solo's in LA is My Lady and Malaguena are still exciting listen to. And Buffy, I do believe it was in fact Bushman who played Evita. RIP
  11. I really don't understand the debate at all on either end. I toured as a 14 year old as a member of the Bayonne Bridgemen in the early 80's. I was the youngest member of the corps. I wasn't treated any differently then the members of legal age. The members of the corps treated me like a little brother. It was a fantastic experience. As for upping the age limit. There is an element of Drum Corps person who can't live without having corps in their lives.. I would be a good example. I would have loved to continue marching beyond the average age out year. But life doesn't exactly bode the same for member who are not, KIDS anymore. Where does the money come from? Mom and Dad!?!? Not likely. They didn't spend $40K a year for college for you to graduate and still live at home, not have a full time job.. and continue to be your sole source of income so you can continue to tour with a Drum Corps. Sr corps as it was called in the past was the place where Jr corps age outs went to maintain their Drum Corps prowess while still maintaining a life, a family, and career. Even before DCA came to be. There is no need or necessity to up the age. Most kids by the time they age out are now looking to teach themselves. Although.. I can see opening the age limit up to allow staff to fill spots if a corps can't find someone to fill a hole.
