  1. Two hot and humid nights of drum corps.
  2. I saw the instant encores last year in the meadowlands. Little pockets of groups came out before the show and did little dances and quartets etc. Then after the show the corps would come right to the pit and play a watered down version of prior years numbers or just anything. no excitement.
  3. Local Shows etc. Boston in california for 5 weeks. Is this necessary? why must all the big boys be together every weekend of tour in july. california at least has a group of corps to have local show. more talent less music and appearances. I am diehard fan but so depressed with the activity. say all you want there are very few screaming fans anymore and standing ovations are forced with a few exceptions.
  4. The activity is holding on by a thread. Thousand of corps, hundreds of corps,50 corps now 22 because one left in the middle of the season. The fan base is dwindling because we are losing interest. Rarely see a corps in a local parade in the town thier from and if you do the guard is in t-shirts and gym shorts and waving to the crowd like a politician. Corps have to be seen more by the community they take their name from. Would you donate to a corps thats from Boston but rehearses and spends over a month in california without a show. Not going to rant anymore. WAKE UP AND SMELL THE COFFEE. DRUM CORPS IS DYING and by doing your math maybe it will be just 7 corps in a few years. Whatever the distraction or other interests the open class and dca corps are smaller and smaller every year. Sad thing going on. and also please keep winterguard at WGI where it belongs. THese costumes and props are rediculous.
  5. A four corps show should not be allowed in the activity. 47 minutes for 25 dollars.
  6. Go to Port Authority Bus Terminal and go to NJ transit Info window and ask about busses to the Meadowlands Ractrack. They run there and get round trip ticket. You may have to walk a ways to stadium but its cheap and gets you there.
  7. 1985 Star of Indiana sang Mickey Mouse during a breif ballad of the theme song for the Mickey Mouse Club.It added to the show theme of course and sounded nice.
  8. Allentown has all the corps in two days with 25 and 35 dollars seats, 1.50 hotdogs, 2 dollar waters, free parking all around the stadium, meeting all of your freinds in the corner of the stadium. G8 show a day later at the meadowlands, 125 dollar seats,75 dollars seats. 50 dollar seats and 26 dollar 10 yard line seats. 6.50 for water 7 dollar hot dogs, and if your going to finals two hours out of your way in the other direction. finals 125 dollar seats. If you go to all your talking over 1000 dollars in travel tickets and hotels for the same 6 shows . People will have to choose who can afford it? who watches a broadway show 6 times in one week except the people who have too? Keep the corps apart like the old days and only have preview of champions and finals and turn more people on to drum corps in other parts of the country besides Texas.
  9. There are so many other great Bacharach songs. Maybe if they replace a couple it might flow better. They are only a few tenths away from the other top corps. A few changes and they may win another one. good luck BD
  10. Whats so pathetic about me not liking the shows? Or the format? I just read the reviews of the corps and went with your fellow dcp members. actually the theater I go to laughs at most of the shows so maybe i would have had fun. shucks.
  11. After reading the reviews and all the nonsense on the field to create a theme and storyline I just saved 12.50. Theater is 10 mins four stops on the train. Not going to see who is going to get 75.05 and 74.03. Who cares. Crawling on the field, scaffolding, two differant color uniforms, building a house on the field, chop chop, slop slop. THe corps should have used the 4 days of travel for rehearsal. Oh wait, they rehearse for 7 weeks and then have a show in august.
  12. Having these corps spend thousands of dollars for all the gas, heat, and only 2500 people only to have to return to Texas in 4 weeks is a waste of time and money. Bad idea.
  13. It just seems like too much extra work to assemble and carry around all summer for the members and volunteers. Will have to see how affective it will be to make it worth it. When Star had the circus train it took an extra hour before and after to assemble it. The last show in Madison the members had a party destroying it knowing they would never have to do it again. Be safe with it and good luck.
  14. I first met Bill Cook in the middle of July 1986 when I became the cook for Star Of Indiana. He was the kindest most generous man I have ever met. Bill and Gayle always made sure I was comfortable traveling between shows and he would also on occasion drive me to get donuts after driving all night from the last show. He was a fair man and always had somthing positive to say. I am so saddened by the news of his passing. My thoughts and prayers are with Gayle and Carl and all the Star family and Cook Inc. What an amazing life Bill had and all that he created and all of the lives he touched. Thank you Bill for believing in me and being a freind. Matthew Durkin
