  1. We just purchased 6 Pearl 12x14 10 lug Competitor model snare drums. We are Parade Corps so weight is a BIG concern. They came with a really cheap thin batter head. Any thoughts on what we should use in place? I've heard Remo white max are pretty good. Our previous drums were a mix of 15" Ludwigs and Slingerlands .We used Ebony pinstripes on those.
  2. Check out 1-800-USABAND They have a lot of used marching percussion equipment.
  3. The Niagara Militaires Alumni have recently purchased new PEARL drums and will be selling their older model Ludwig and Slingerland drums. 2. 12x15 10 lug Ludwig Challengers 1has synthetic gut snares the other has wire snares $ 125.00 each obo 2. 12x15 10 lug Slingerland TDR's 1Has gut snares with one strand missing, the other has wire cable snares. One of the strainers is generic but does the job. $ 125.00 each obo. 2. 12x15 8 lug tenor drums. $75.00 each. These could be converted to snare drums very easily. We also have the following listed below 1. 14x28 Ludwig bass drum with long "Classic " lugs red matte finish $100.00 1. 14x26 " " 1. 14x22 " $ 75.00 needs heads 1. 10x28 Ludwig bass drum. $50.00 This drum has 10 short "bow tie " lugs 1. 12x26 Ludwig bass drum.$ 50.00 ". As above All are covered in red sparkle. Considering they are 40 plus years old they look, sound pretty good! We bought all of the above used back in 2006 when we started up. Shipping costs covered by buyer and would be shipped from Niagara Falls NY or you can pick them up. These would be great for a group just starting out. Will consider a package deal if you want them all.
  4. Could you send me pics of the snare and tenor carriers?
  5. Check out 1-800-USABAND click on percussion and scroll down to marching toms see what you find!
  6. I pity the poor guy who came to the Marine Band after SOUSA!! Since when did PARENTS have a say in hiring practices? Just another instants of parent meddling. Grow up kids and hey parents too Life is about change, challenges Get over it! ,
  7. Looking for an PEARL 80's era 8" cutaway tom any colour.

  9. How much for the small 3valve contra?
  10. Great news! We have a similar group in Hamilton of special needs folks who have a drumline and guard as well.
  11. Or just go to the Vic Firth website and hear see them played at different tempos. Great tool for learning the rudiments,I use it all the time.
  12. I recall back in the 70's 80's many of the HS Marching Bands were going "Corps Style" with musical arrangements better drum lines uniforms and even quasi names of Corps ie "Spirit of" .I guess the old saying" Imitation is the best form of flattery" rings true here.
  13. IMHO the dancing, theatrics singing etc have taken the place of the crisp marching style of a bygone era. The Colour Pres. was always one of my favourite parts of the show. Hearing the patriotic music as the Corps came towards you with the National Flag carried proudly while the other flags were dipped in a solemn reverent salute was a sight to behold. Witness this part of history at any Alumni show today and you will understand what I am speaking of. There s a Corps very active today doing modern drill, playing a combination of old and new music some of it classical and they ALWAYS get a standing O, They don't roll on the ground dance or prance use props wear sequined uniforms etc but put on a very entertaining show that brings the crowd to its feet each time they perform. Their name ? Oh yeah The United States MARINE Drum and Bugle Corps!!! And by the way they STILL use 2 valve G bugles! They continue to show what can be done without all the gimmicks glitz schmaltz etc. Next year they celebrate 80 years. Not too any Corps can boast that length of operation!
  14. Stupid non Drum Corps people! The horn may be silver "colour" but not the silver you want. I would LOVE to see a Corps come out with ALL brass G horns!, There was a DCI Corps back in the80's whose name escapes me that had brass horns. It was different and brought back memories of the old brass horns that you had to polish!
  15. We have a 24" black with silver hardware Dynasty bass for sale with carrier and case. NEVER used. Asking $350.00 plus shipping from Niagara Falls NY. Will consider a straight up TRADE for a set of quads with carrier in GOOD COND!

  17. Anyone seen any I&E Results other than the Mini Corps?
  18. We have 2 12x15 TDR's and 1 Ludwig 12x15 Challenger in need of repair.Does anyone know how to re-gut them? The original gut snares are stretched over time or are missing. Iwas told that weed whacker or nylon tennis gut is the best solution. Any help appreciated. PS I have NO experience with this process at all.
  19. I ran a Grade School Drum and Glock Corps in my kids school for 14 years We used baseball pants but asked the manufacturer NOT to hem them with elastic as we wanted them with a straight leg so we could hem them. They worked GREAT! They already had the stripe in them and looked sharp and were light weight easy to take care off and we could ALWAYS get them.
  20. I had a pr. Of McCormicks sticks back in the early seventie's I liked the bead on them kind of a pear shape .
  21. I'm also looking for Vol. 1'Mine got ruined in a basement flood.I wrote a piece in it which hurts even worse!
  22. Most Sporting Goods stores that carry team apparel should able help you out.Thats what we did.As far as being lined, hoods etc.you have to take into consideration what does the Corps do in the fall? Up here in southern Ontario we do a lot of Santa Claus parades from mid Nov-mid Dec. Our jackets are NOT lined but the nylon breaks the wind and retains body heat nicely. We do however !layer up" underneath if needed.
