  1. The Niagara Memorial Militaires Alumni Drum Corps from Niagara Falls Canada are pleased to announce the appointment of Harold McJury as their Program Co-Ordinator.Recognizing Harold's many years of experience in the field of Drum Corps it was a natural move as he has been the Corps Brass Arranger/Instructor since last February and has vastly improved the sound of the Corps. Harold will be working along with Corps President/Percussion Instructor Rick Allen, Glock Instructor Mike Burnett, Drill Instructor Lloyd Hatt and Drum Major Kim Ferri. With these people leading the way and a Corps with a great attitude the Militaires will be coming out bigger and sounding better than ever in 2011!! The Militaires repitoire for 2011 will consist of DOWNTOWN-MUSIC MAN MEDLEY-PERFIDIA-MAG 7-MIGHTY NIAGARA DRUM SOLO and 2 Street Beats Branch 479 and Mr. Militaire. The Militaires formed in 2006 are a Parade Corps of approx: 40 members and take part in Parades Concerts Community events in and around the Greater Niagara Region of Southern Ontario. The Corps is based out of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 479 in Niagara Falls Ontario. The average age is approx: 66 with ages ranging from 15-80.

  4. I believe even the US MARINE DRUM AND BUGLE CORPS went matched for a while in the 80's as well!!
  5. If you want to get technical they are BRASS BANDS in my estimation. Once they went to Bb they became BANDS Yeah I know there have been Bb bugles in the past.Manufacturers in the early days ie: CONN LUDWIG WHALEY ROYCE etc had both a line of G and Bb horns. SCOUT HOUSE used and STILL uses Bb in their Alumni Corps. I get a laugh every time I watch a YOUTUBE clip of Reading Buccaneers Alumni. Some guy yells"Thank God for G horns!!"
  6. Can never understand why the European and British Band drummers don't use leg rests!!!
  7. I facebooked Al a while ago re: a line of ALUMNI CORPS DRUMS ie: 8 lug 12x14 or 12x15 Challengers snare and SINGLE tenor where WEIGHT is managable. Most Alumni Corps including the one I am Director of as well as Drum Instructor NOTE I am not a BATTERY TECH!! are still using SLINGS/LEG RESTS so WEIGHT again is a factor.
  8. The Niagara Memorial Militaires Alumni Drum Corps from Niagara Falls Ontario recently honoured Horn Instructor Harold McJury of Batavia NY with the first ever "James L. Davies Memorial Award" for his outstanding contribution to the Corps at their year end Christmas party. Corps President/Drum Instructor Rick Allen echoed the thoughts of the Corps membership and stated during the presentation that'Without Harold's guidance, patience and knowledge the Militaires would not be where they are today" The Militaires are a Parade Corps of approx: 40 members 18 brass 10 percussion 5 glocks and a Colour Guard of 8 1 DM and perform in and around the Niagara Region and Southern Ontario.
  9. Dont excpect to get the same response you would get from a rod tension drum it just dont happen!!! Have you retightened the ropes? You can get REAL GUT snares from COOPERMAN FIFE AND DRUM who also do restorations. You might want to send it there to get it properly "set up" to playing condition.
  10. Well said Jim If nobody "see's"you, nobody "knows" about you!!!

  14. Looking for a SLINGERLAND TDR strainer. ANY assistance is much appreciated. I have the back plate just need the strainer.
  15. I used these tapes by McCormick when teaching years ago. Note the 12 lug snares being carried on SLINGS!!! The SLINGERLAND Toms had a "padded" carrier that hurt like hell!! Nothing more than hard plastic. Snare drum sound GREAT just like a drum should!!
  16. Niagara Memorial Militaires from Niagara Falls Ontario. A civilian Trumpet Band that was active from 1949-1964.They did compete as a Sr.MM Corps from 58-63 wearing a variety of different uniforms over that time span.DCHOF member R. Doug Reynolds was their Drum Inst for many years.
  17. Yes it is.They later went to a more military looking uniform blue satin shirt and peaked cap.
  18. YES we did wear pith helmets. We used to alternate between the helmet and peaked cap.
  19. Royal Canadian Army Service Corps Trumpet Band at Dufferin Racetrack Toronto
  20. Yes we have glocks in our group. Glocks were an important part of the earlier original Corps. The glock "players" are wives of other members and do a great job considering none had previous experience. Our glock Instructor is a former member of SCOUT HOUSE and does know his stuff.
  21. Although not a "true" DCA personality I have to say the late GREAT Col. Truman W. Crawford USMC Ret'd. The man was a musical giant in the activity and assisted many Corps Jr.Sr. etc.
  22. The NIAGARA MEMORIAL MILITAIRES ALUMNI DRUM CORPS based in Niagara Falls Ontario are looking for new members. The Corps formed in 2006 is primarily a Parade Corps but does concerts etc at local events in and around the Niagara area. 23. I figure if a 2 valve G Kanstul is good enough for the US Marine Drum and Bugle Corps it should be good enough for ALL!!
