  1. Would like for your Corps to visit us when you are in NIAGARA FALLS ONTARIO. Let us know when you are coming and we can perhaps have a social evening at our Corps Hall which is a Royal Canadian Legion.
  2. The NIAGARA MILITAIRES ALUMNI have a number of 2 valve "G" horns available for sale. Most voices including ALTOS and FRENCHIES Mix of KING-DEG KANSTUL
  3. We have some 2 valve mello's AND Alto's if you are interested PM for more info.
  4. First saw the Corps in Toronto at the Shriners Show in the 60's and have been a fan ever since. Very sad to see them cease operation. Like a great athlete who knows when its time to "hang em up" its better to have beeen remembered as a great Corps a Corps that will live forever in our hearts and memories and of course records CD's DVD's etc. Thanks for the good times the great times and above all the MEMORIES. The Colonel would have been proud!!!!!
  5. Its pretty hard for someone else to crack the marching field. PEARL-YAMAHA have it pretty well covered.LUDWIG & Premier are still around but nowhere near as popular as they once were. In "my "day it was LUDWIG-SLINGERLAND-ROGERS the big three Can't recall ANY Corps using GRETSCH drums.
  6. I am looking for some books that were written by DCHOF Member LARRY McCORMICK (ex Cavie and Cavie Instructor)back in the 70's PRECISION DRUMMING and PRECISION TENOR DRUMMING. I have never seen them offered on EBAY etc. Just wondering if anyone might have a spare copy or I would even settle for GOOD QUALITY photo copies. Any help apreciated.
  7. I doubt VERY MUCH if there is a song tune etc that was played by a DCI Corps today you could whistle humm etc leaving the stadium like you could in the "old days" when Corps played "recognizable music" Sadly I think the arrangers designers are putting together these shows nowadays for their own. ego's. Although I do appreciate what they play "musicaly" WAY above what we ever played back in the day but I and others just DON'T GET IT!!!!! Maybe I am biased being involved in the ALUMNI Movement but I'm sorry I just don't think DCI is where it's at anymore. More and more Corps folding, infighting amongst Corps(the split) which is not new by the way but I think DCI and fans have to take a good look at themselves IF they want to survive the next 5 years. We Alumni members do it for the LOVE of our activity. You SEE HEAR people in the stands go NUTS when Cabs start BULLY,Y-R play REQUIUM,Sky play NEW YORK Scout House play WALTZING MATILDA etc. Its MUSIC people RECOGNIZE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Most DCI music played now belongs in a Concert Hall not a football field. Ive often wondered if the DCI Organization told the Corps "OK this year guys you are ALL going to do a 1960-70's style show ie:OTL Colour Pres the works this year no pit no dancers just horns drums guard AND Nat'l Party" how it would play out. Maybe I'm just dreaming,BUT I can dream can't I??
  8. When I started playing in a small Baton and Drum Corps back in 62 even the Instructor couldnt read.!!His "writing" would consist of writing out the rudiments/music in long hand ie: paradiddle paradiddle flam tap flam tap 9roll/25 25 6ruff tap. A lot of the "rudimental" style of drumming I found was rudiment IDENTIFICATION. You saw a single paradiddle and played it by looking at the stickings etc. Most guys I marched with learned by "rote" watching and LISTENING to others When I later got to middle school Grs 6 7 8 and got into the band program I really learned how to read. It helped a lot over the years from playing teaching arranging etc. In High School I found the drum parts BORING!!! lots of boom tick boom tick boom tick tick tick etc.I asked the teacher if I could write new parts and he said YES!! I taught the other drummers basic rudiments and we sounded and looked a lot better. Being from ONTARIO CANADA you Americans had it over us in a big way. High School Marching Bands are almost UNHEARD OF up here!!!!! There are a few but NOTHING like you have in the US. Now ALL kids I believe read very well You almost have to just to audition. Is it a good thing I guess sure helps the Instructor if the line can read and doesnt have to spend time with members "breaking down" the parts bar by bar as in the "old days" Hey hornlines did the same thing with the X AND O method X valve IN O valve OPEN or later R for rotor B for both valve and rotor. Some used the 1-2 and 1/2 method 1 valve 0 open 2 rotor B valve rotor OR 1 2 valve NOW its 1 2 OR 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL!
