Those are the only corps (besides cadets) ive heard good things about. I'm not gonna lie i am rooting for cavaliers and bd to be on top> The reason for my confidence is b/c of what i've heard from members of the other two teams (crown and bloo)

Sorry my hangover was catching up to me. But i've heard midi files, and im not entirely impressed. I know music gets changed around alot during the summer, but even before the season in 09 (when i heard their midi files) i could tell it would be good. This year not so sure.

What phantom did was prove that show design can take you LONG way. By no means IMO were they cleaner or sounded better than BD or cavaliers. Their show design is what carried them to the top. The reason i don't throw crown in the mix is because they aren't as consistent as these three. Whose to say that bluecoats will pick up where they left off? A friend on staff said he didn't think the group is nearly as talented as they were last year (kind of a rude thing to say about a corps you're teaching at) and crown, with that show, just isnt going to get them where they want to be.

going by what ive heard/seen from reliable sources, its going to be a blood bath between Blue Devils, Cavaliers and Cadets. Mostly between cavaliers and BD. I know its too early to tell, but i have a hunch the cavaliers will bring the fire and give BD a run for their money. I also dont see devils dropping out of the top two. Not that im a devils fan, i just dont see a corps thats been consistent will lose momentum now. Any thoughts?

If thats true, then why have they never won a brass trophy? There were soooo many intonation issues in their show it was laughable. Plus they had tons of stick outs. Being a "musical" guy, you must already know this right?

Sorry i should've been more specific. Im sure there are corps that have players from good music schools, but how many do you know that actually come from conservatories? they had atleast 7 during the 2002-2005 era, and only a handful during 2008. Although, im sure every corps thinks they have the most talented players, so no point in arguing anymore

dont knock their staff that year. they were good. Their approach just wasnt what drum corps fans/judges wanted but they were good. i dont know what corps you were looking at, but that corps was pretty clean in 2008. Much cleaner than the champions that year. as far as cleanliness goes, they were 2nd only to Blue Devils. Phantom had no business winning, even with their epic ending. BD owned them and so did the cavaliers. Phantom 08 was the dirtiest championship show since cavaliers 2001

i keep seeing people talk about 2005-2009 were off years first off, the 2005 hornline was probably one of the best hornlines thats been on a football field. I'm sure most of you don't want to hear that but its the truth. Go back and listen to the recording and hopefully you'll notice. Yes they had a crappy show that year, and they knew it too. But some of the best players in drum corps come from that organization. How many drum corps kids do you know come from IU, New England Conservatory or any other big name music schools? Same thing goes for 2008. AMAZING players, but due to the brass staff, they werent able to play the way all of you want them to. As far as 2010, i could understand why you'd think they were over placed. But that hornline was somewhat young as well. So give them a break

i love how everyone is hyping what will probably be the biggest impact of their show also, as someone pointed out early, its SMALL room. Of course its gonna be loud i think everyone needs to stop **** riding cadets/crown

thanks for the history lesson i am rather aware of the difference between marching band and drum corps seeing how ive been apart of one for 4 years but no matter how you slice it, you're still MARCHING on a football field. "band" is a group of instrumentalist without strings. Therefore you can still call drum corps band i know a lot of people get over excited when someone says marching band instead of drum corps. But its all pretty much the same thing rather you want to agree with it or not

no, they are. (minus blue devils) you're still "marching" around in a football field. Therefore its a "marching" band without woodwinds.

try telling that to the entire corps. in the end, drum corps is just a more intense version of marching band. There's no difference.
