  1. Blue Devils: I liked the visual and the ballad much more in 2016. I loved the ballad this year, but it wasn't really a ballad than a slow jam-out session SCV: 2016, no question. Glad they medaled this year and were 'technically' better, but music kind of bored me in the first half. Crown: Wasn't a huge fan of 2016 at the time (aversion to westerns, maybe?) but no question 2016 Bluecoats: Jagged Line was nice, but 2016 had more oomph. Cavies: Both obnoxious. 2016 made me laugh at the Trump part. I did like the rotating tenor gimmick this year (a return to Cavie gimmicks). I call a draw. BAC: didn't like 2016 at all no matter where they would have placed, while 2017 was one of my favorite shows of the summer. Cadets: 2017 BK: 2016. Probably weirder, but more emotion. Phantom: 2017, wonder what could have been with larger and full sounding horn line Blue Stars: 2016 Crossmen: 2017 Madison: would be a draw. I loved '99 so just by that association 2016. Or not..I dunno. Mandarins: I remember when they were competing with Cascades in Div. 2 and how good they were. Hadn't remembered what they played between then and 2017, sorry. Academy: 2016, but they came far this year Colts: 2017, though 2016 was a step-back Troopers: 2016 by far
  2. So true...I sadly remember the time I tried to expose my college roommate who was not ever in band to it (trial and error).. "turn off this s***"
  3. It's also harder to convince a younger person (younger than myself even, mid 30's) that 70's and 80's corps shows were so great b/c the video and audio quality is terrible.
  4. I always hate it when I hear "but this is a competitive activity!" Nearly everything is a competitive activity, but it's not competition itself that draws one to it! In fact, the more I'm focused on the competition aspect of DCI, the less I enjoy the activity and the shows.
  5. Haven't done one of these in awhile, too many variables. But oh well, just for fun here's a conservative prediction: 1. BD 2. Crown 3. Bloo 4. SCV 5. Cavies (realistically could be in 3rd on finals night but not earlier, b/c reasons) 6. Cadets 7. Boston 8. Blue Stars (it's an even year, I feel it...may even pass whoever is in 7th) 9. Blue Knights 10. Phantom 11. Madison 12. Colts (gotta make a return one of these days, so why not 2018 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ -- 13. Crossmen (will probably be higher tbh) 14. Academy 15. Mandarins
  6. I would like for something monumental to happen at that other Cali corps that has been world class for a few years and wears teal.
  7. Ate a helping of crow last night as I, and many others, didn't see this show coming as far as it did pre and early season. Their members really sold a difficult to sell product. While the last few years my Crown homerism has waned, I am interested to see what they come up with next.
  8. Barring a snafu, looks like SCV will win the Zingali. When's the last time that happened? Also been a while since BD didn't win guard two years in a row (2005).
  9. Can't wait till they get to the part where war eagle tells everyone to fu
  10. That sound byte sounds like it's saying "ooga chaka" and I immediately go into "iiiiiiiiii-I'm hooked on a feeeelinggg!"
  11. I had my gallbladder out last year, I don't do well with things that are hard to digest.
  12. That last phrase kinda sounded like Dory talking to the whales
  13. Haven't noticed much until recently, but it seems the whole pre-show fad has fazed out more.
  14. I think the girl on the jagged line is the same that stood on Crown's stage coach last year. Must not be afraid of heights.
  15. Flo kicked me off right after Boston's ballad *thumbs down*
  16. I like this guard work more than Crown's. Maybe not as layered but more engaging, and definitely more musical this year. guy with receding hairline in his early 20's-sorry dude, it's not going to get any easier...
  17. If I move to a bigger city, i wouldn't have much of a desire to be "seen" by anyone except my closest friends. Wouldn't have to worry about panhandlers.
